Most Valuable Duo in the Majors (1 Viewer)

As it is true that Rickie Weeks is better than Rosemary Cano, so it is true that Ryan Braun (The Hebrew Hammer) and Prince Fielder comprise the strongest young duo in baseball. There are not two everyday players from any one team I would take in trade for them. Considering their youth, salaries, abilities, upsides, demeanor, and clubhouse presence - they are clearly the best in baseball.

Utley/Rollins

Santana/Mauer....next....

Everyday? Tough call, no doubt Braun/Fielder will be solid for the next five years, although I think the Prince's weight will get the best of him in time. I'd take Wright/Reyes or H. Ramirez/Cabrera...

Tulowitzki and Holliday, better rounded, better defense(Braun's an OF waiting to happen, if Weeks doesn't take up a spot first)

You have the Freebirds/Demolition like quality of picking two of three of the Utley/Rollins/Howard combo.

Might also have to think about Morneau/Mauer

Vic Martinez/Sizemore

And really, no matter where you look, you might trade your two guys for:

Cain/Lincecum

Not enough power, already mid-career for both. Thanks for playing.

Not convinced on the Rockies.Mauer will have to switch positions eventually, but they are nice in Minnesota, just not as good as the Brewers.Martinez and Sizemore don't cut it for me - I am not trading Braun/Fielder for them.

Wright/Reyes might be ok, but they both seem to be very streaky - they too are young and deserve consideration in the thread....

Ortiz / Ramirez used to be among the top if you're thinking redraft style and pure offensive power but considering Ramirez makes a small fortune, isn't the best defensively (but is under rated).... Ortiz is a DH... Ramirez appears to be in decline..etc etc etc.... I like the Ramirez / Cabrera option

The thing about Cabrera is that there are a surprising amount of negatives there...

GREAT offensive player, but he has ballooned up considerably weight-wise, his defense has gone from meh to awful, and his attitude has apparently worsened with every passing year...

Indifference and apathy are the two words I keep hearing about him...

Now all that said, he is still only 24 and has already clubbed 138 homers and driven in 523 runs on some bad teams the past two years...

hopefully he can get his weight/attitude together, b/c he is a great hitter

Now....if Cabrera really averaged 69 HR and 261 RBI per year this would be case closed.

Edit to clarify

I'd rather have ARod/insert reasonable Yankee production than Fielder/Braun. Stick Cano or Jeter in there, even the seemingly ageless Posada, and ARod makes up for any talent gap easily.

If we can split it with pitching, ARod / Wang ain't shabby either.

Why would you be more convinced on the Brewers than the Rocks? Holliday is the most proven of the bunch, and Tulowitski is a great defender, in addition to his offensive contributions. As for Mauer, I think you could say the same of Braun. Mauer woudn't move because he's a liability either, merely as a means to preserve production, but Braun's D needs work, and Prince will need the DH within 5-6 years. He's a butcher who likes to eat. Not to knock your guys though, they are both fun to watch and up there in this discussion. But my thinking is, the upgrade and importence of the defense from the other combos might be compelling.

While quite good, Mauer has to prove to me that he can consistantly play a healthy 150 games a year for me to consider him valuable.

I like Holliday and Tulowitzki, but their home/road splits clearly leave them out of the discussion.

I created a quick formula -

(HR+Runs+RBI+SB)-(CS+E)+OPS then divided by Games Played - age

Using this formula, Utley and Rollins are the #1 duo (457 score), followed by Reyes + Wright (441), Fielder+Braun (426) and Ramirez + Cabrera (421).

I would anoint the Reyes/Wright duo as I believe Utley and Rollins are a generation ahead of the others being in the 28/9 range vs. 23/4 range for most of the others.

To give you an idea, Eric Byrnes and Chris Young had a score of 390 - the Rockies mentioned have the combined highest score, but I am not allowing it (and because it is my post, I can do that) because they are Rockies and play at altitude. Holliday carried them with the highest individual score.

This is obviously not a perfect formula, but it has me in the Reyes/Wright camp (though I will still try to get Fielder/Braun for fantasy next year!
