MoviePass - Random number of random movies for random amounts on random days! (1 Viewer)

So only a couple of the movies at each theater show up on the Movie Pass app. And its not even like the new movies that don't show up. I'm not sure what's going on but, for example, the local AMC - which has 14 theaters - only 2 movies show up for today and only 2 times for each.

I'm not sure what is going on.

ETA: Apparently this is the latest MP gimmick to get you to not go to the movies. Disappearing showtimes. Lots of stories on reddit of people checking the app before they leave for the theater, getting to the theater and the movie showtime no longer appears.

One of the more recent updates made it so you could check in outside of the 100 yds.  So you could check in for the movie at home, then go get your ticket. Kind of offset some of the unavailable times madness.

Did an online chat with them about a week ago and they gave a full refund.  I would have been happy with a pro-rated refund, but you know Costco.
That was easy enough. Did you also have to cancel through moviepass?

Tried once we got the credit back on the Costco citi-card and couldn't log in, so it looks like they canceled us.  Glad to be done with them, although we got to see quite a few movies the first few months.

I'm hoping to get one more movie out of MP on Saturday morning. We shall see. Not looking good -

MoviePass just lost $132 a share and its trading at $0.05

It has burned through more than $219 million in cash since the beginning of the year. Most of that money, more than $150 million, has been spent in the last quarter.

Meanwhile, the company's cash reserves are dwindling. It has only $15.5 million in cash on its balance sheet, plus another $28.7 million held by payments processors. Helios and Matheson warned that "without raising additional capital, there is substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern."

Could you imagine being a Helios and Matheson C-level exec three months ago sitting on $2 million of stock options that vest August 31? Those would be worth a cool $600 today.

"It'll be like Netflix, but for movies! Brilliant!!"

By my math actually $7 (but my by math could be wrong)

Gotta assume that they'll take it private by offering investors a month of movie pass service for each 2% of stock they own.

Hey, you bought something from us before and we still have your cc info. so we’re going to charge you monthly once again even though you never authorized it! I guess it gives Attorney Generals something to do. ?
Yeah, that seems like straight up credit card fraud. Wow.

Is anyone else having trouble seeing a list of available movies/showtimes today? No matter which theater I choose in the Twin Cities area I'm getting a "something went wrong" message - no movies.

I was an early customer and loved the price point to see basically unlimited movies but I ended up cancelling after they started changing the plan. I'd be interested in getting it again if it was closer to the original deal.

Man, it was glorious. I even did 12 months of Regal's unlimited plan they put out on the success of Movie Pass. Not sure if I didn't reup because of the pandemic or what.

For like 6 months, it was amazing.

I remember it got a little weird towards the end. Like having to take pictures of your receipt and only being able to see a movie once/one movie per day, but for $10/month it was still incredibly awesome.

My wife and I have done the Regal Theater Unlimited Pass ($18/mo) for a few years now and we quite enjoy it. We see most new releases other than horror since neither of us care for those. I think we've seen over 100 movies now on the pass so we're definitely getting our money's worth.

According to this article, they are going to have three plans:

  • For $10 per month you can see 1 to 3 movies;
  • for $20, 2 to 4 movies;
  • for $30, 3 to 5 movies.

If that's accurate, I'm not sure why anyone would pay for more than the minimum plan. After that, its basically $10 for an additional movie. Which is about what we pay at the box office.

I don't know - maybe movie tickets are a lot more expensive in NY and SF or something. So it may make sense there.
