Might a new sleeper RB have stepped up here? Can any locals weigh in ?? :banned:

Despite not having Jamal Lewis or Sgt. Mike Anderson, i've already signed Musa so i am highly biased.

Camp lowdown: Musa impressing in Baltimore

Gregg Rosenthal /

Posted: 23 hours ago

Musa Smith is far more explosive than Jamal Lewis and Mike Anderson at this stage of their careers. This isn't a huge surprise considering Smith has 21 career carries. Lewis has over 1,500 carries and has played older for two straight seasons, while Anderson is the same age as Curtis Martin.

I don't want to get carried away with preseason efforts, but it's hard not to think about Willie Parker when watching Smith. The 232-pounder isn't nearly as fast as Fast Willie, but like Parker last preseason, he's making highlight reel runs on every other touch. Smith has 13 touches this preseason, and he's broken a play for over 35 yards on three of them. Lewis could touch the ball 300 times and not break one over 35 yards.

Three plays don't make Smith a star, but he's a great sleeper worth grabbing for your fantasy bench. Pick him up in keeper leagues. Ravens coach Brian Billick recently called him the team's "running back of the future." With Smith's contract expiring at the end of 2006, the future may start by midseason..

Musa Smith climbing the depth chart

Musa Smith - RB - BAL - Aug. 18 - 12:57 pm et

After rushing for 116 yards through two exhibitions, Musa Smith has made himself the front-runner to be Baltimore's third-down back.

Smith led the Ravens in rushing (55 yards) and receptions (four for 15 yards) Thursday night against Philly. His leg appears to be fully recovered after missing the entire 2005 campaign. Aug. 18 - 12:57 pm et

He was a sleeper of mine last year. Problem is, I'm always a year early and I don't get em the next year. I'm kinda liking the chances for Musa also.

It's certainly a good setup. Lewis has taken a beating in his career and Anderson's ancient. Musa was a fairly high draft pick (3rd round I think) out of a historically good RB school, but has missed his first two seasons with an injury. This offseason is the first chance he's had to show what he can do, and it's been good. I could see him starting at some point in his career.

I just took him at 21.12 in a 13 team IDP redraft and was told by some that he is behind M Anderson........ I said we'll just have to wait and see if he gets a chance to grab some carries and keep them coming.

Baltimore signed MA without knowing how well Musa would be come camp.

Musa scored the first TD of training camp, and he's been on fire ever since.

MA appears to have lost a step. Not sure if that is the "post-Denver effect", or if he was just more effective as "RB Denver".

Either way, if JLewis goes down, I would expect more Musa than MA. As it is, expect Musa on the field on 3rd downs this year.

i hope he can stay healthy. they've had high hope since drafting him. i'm sure MA will be 2 on the dpth chart all year but if Jamal goes down.... IMO there will be a very nice does of Musa.
