There's another "should" vs. "will" component here. I do think Haynesworth should be either the winner or very close at this point. Even going back to last year - when he was out it was a totally different defense. And here he's been leading the way again - and they're 9-0 because of their D. Giants are the other great team but they are well-rounded all-around. I would guess that maybe Justin Tuck would be my pick as their most valuable - but he's less of a clear standout from the rest of the team.
Just because the Titans are 9-0 doesn't mean they have the best player in the league. A defensive tackle on a team that doesn't even rank that highly in run defense isn't anywhere close to the most valuable player in the league. Albert Haynesworth isn't nearly as valuable as any of the top offensive players in the league. Give him DPOY if you like. No one is saying Kris Jenkins should be MVP even though he's playing every bit as well as Haynesworth at a tougher position. That's because he's on a team that hasn't been fortunate enough to go 9-0. This sort of thinking is what made Mark Mosely the MVP in '82.Have you watched Tennessee games? Guy blows up offenses.I understand the allure of Haynesworth, but it's ridiculous to say that a DT on the 8th best rushing defense in the league is the MVP. Talk about stretching just to give it to someone on the team with the best record. It's the most valuable player of the league award -- a league with 32 teams. It's not the MVP of the best team in the league award.
