My 2008 Sleeper QB will be...... (1 Viewer)

In one league in 2007, I spent a 3rd round pick (I believe) on Carson Palmer. Needless to say, that didn't turn out too well.

In my league in 2007, I drafted Alex Smith super late (bust), but I also draft Tony Romo in the mid rounds and he was a monster (#2 fantasy QB in my league). He was a great value pick. I also picked up Derek Anderson off of the waiver wire, which really bolstered my QB situation.

Anyway, now that I gave you a little background......my "sleeper" QB for 2008 will be......

David Garrard

I think there will be at least 8 other QB's drafted before him (Brady, Manning, Farve, D. Anderson, Romo, Hasslebeck, Brees, and Palmer). This isn't counting the other guys that will probably be drafted before him like McNabb and Roethilisberger. Anyway, we've established that he can be had mid to late. Well, in 14 games in 2007, he for 2,500 yards and 18 TD's. I think at least 3,000 yards and at least 20 TD's is a fair projection for him. Keep in mind to that he doesn't turn the ball over much. He only had 3 picks in the regular season. Now, let's talk about his rushing skills. During the regular season, he had 185 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD. That's not much, but if you are talking about 1 pt for every 10 yards rushing and 6 pts for TD's, that's an extra 24 pts that he'll give you that a lot of QB's won't.

Now, I know the haters will say that his receivers suck......true. They could be better, but they are tall and arguably getting better.

Also, the haters will say that Jacksonville is too much of a running team.....true, but I think this is a positive. It takes less pressure off of Garrard and keeps defenses honest.

I really believe that he will post top 10 QB numbers in 2008 and possibly top 5 numbers. Draft him late confidently and yell out "CHAMPIONSHIP."

Can't ague it.I think you will get alot of people to agree with you because of his post season performance, but come draft time He will be QB 12-15 off the board.Much like this year, I was very high on Big Ben, and thought he could post anywhere from 5-8 numbers.I was right on that one, as I waited til he was QB13 for me at the end of the 5th in a 16 team league.I view them as similar perceived players. Not flashy, not sexy, not the QB anyone would want to trade for, but at the end of the year he is tops in scoring.

He's a good pick. He was one of only three QBs in the NFL with a QB rating over 100 last season. The other two were Roethlisberger and Brady. My new attitude on QBs is that good real life QBs almost inevitably become good FF QBs. If you believe that then Garrard is a good guy to target right now.

i agree that hes a good pick if you can get him late, but theres no way hes gonna be top 5 any time soon.

This is generally the response that will make him drop to drafted QB15 in most leagues.FBG has him as QB 16 despite not playing in 4 games. If you average out 4 more games, he ends up in the top 10.Im not locking in a top 5 in 2008, but would not be surprised to see it happen.
