Best friend pulls me aside on Xmas night (we are all partying), and tells me that he wants me to well.. you know.. with his wife. I go to a hockey tournament every year up in Lake Placid. One year our goalie's girlfriend insisted in bringing a girl up because she wanted to try "it"; the girlfriend passed out, the goalie slept with the new girl and knocked her up, goalie dumps girlfriend of 10 years and marries new girl, girlfriend devastated. It made for wonderful locker room talk and the ex-girlfriend made herself "available" to the team, so it was a net-win for us.

Add me to the list of folks saying these things don't end well. In my situation, I played the role of Mrs. Carver.

My wife at the time and her BFF approached me about "experimenting." Initially, they were asking for permission and I was not going to be included in anything. There was a lot of discussion about what exactly "experimenting" meant and with whom. Then they decided I would be allowed to watch but not participate. The issue became that they wanted to do things with each other but sometimes wanted BFF's fiance and/or other guys included as well. Since I said no dice, then they changed the offer. I basically said I didn't get married for my wife to be out hooking up with a bunch of other guys.

They then offered that I could do anything I wanted to either or both of them (both 8-8.5s and absolute horn dogs) as a regular thing . . . provided that I let them do whatever they wanted without me there whenever they wanted. At that point, it seemed like the only hook up options in my marriage heading forward would be in a group setting with no more one on one husband and wife time. There were still squabbles about the fine print of what would be allowed and not allowed, and all parties agreed that it was a bad idea and it ended there.

Of course, it didn't end there, as they decided they didn't need my permission and did everything that they wanted to do anyway without my involvement. Ultimately they got caught, we ended up divorced, the BFF ended up broken up from her fiance, and none of the parties involved spoke to each other again after that. They even tried saying it was my fault and that I was offered a role and declined and I should have known they were going to do it anyway.

The BFF's fiance initially thought this was a cool idea and once they carried forward materially participated. He got to play along a few times, but ultimately the two women moved on from him being included to leaving him out altogether in favor of other parties behind his back and he became collateral damage as well.

As far as Carver's current situation goes, his friend's marriage is probably going to end soon and if Carver gets himself involved his could very likely be next. It would not shock me at all if the friend has a thing for Carver's wife and this is all an attempt to swap and/or get him and the two women together.

I don't for a minute believe that the friend here only wants his wife to do something with Carver. He has an agenda that we haven't heard about (and likely Carver hasn't heard the whole plan and sordid details either). Most men that I know are not looking to have their wives hook up with one of their best friends. That should be a red flag that this is not a one act play. If guys want to add something to the recipe, it's almost always a chick . . . not another guy.

I'm not going to preach to people what they should or shouldn't do, but people need to know what the consequences can be and they have to live with their decisions and the potential fallout.

That is brutal and like other have said, I am sorry to hear that. As for the OP, are you sure your wife hasn't been approached either? Is this where you want your marriage to have gone, say 5 years from now? I would politely laugh my friend off in a way that he thought I never took it serious and as for the texts I would tell her to knock it off. If you open this box you'll never be able to repack it. If your marriage has issues then I guess all bets are off but I would be working on the issues and not trying to create new problems to overcome. Good luck and happy New Year.
 
The way I see it, you definitely have a couple options here...

OPTION 1

[*]Get some strange. Ruin your entire life.

OPTION 2

[*]Shut the two of them out completely – at least for a few weeks if not longer. No contact whatsoever.

[*]Your friendship with this couple is most likely already over, the sooner you realize and accept this the better off you'll be.

[*]You and the wife should definitely skip their new year's party tonight. DO NOT GO.

[*]Show your wife the texts, tell her what's going on, and explain why the two of you won't be attending the NYE party and why you'll no longer be friends with them... (At least for the foreseeable future, until they work out their kinks on their own time and start acting like adults again.)

Maybe not. Obviously, I have no idea.But if you break the seal here, who knows where this thing goes.You have a pretty good idea what your wife would and wouldn't do right now. But right now, you live in a world where you haven't banged your buddy's wife (or proposed the idea to your wife).You've got a smoking hot wife that everybody wants to bang. You go ahead and "open" the marriage at your own peril.You pretty much have to tell her (if you want to do it). I kind of think her saying no and getting pissed off is the best outcome at that point. It's when she says yes that this thing really goes sideways.Maybe it's not your buddy. Maybe it's a few months from now when some other couple she knows wants to spice up their sex life.

So now that 3 pages of thread exist, and we have yet to hear this situation working out favorably even ONCE for somebody, then the reasons are indeed obvious.
 
Also, we're still missing a vital piece of information (in addition to the most important, the pic).

Have you used the urinal next to your buddy? Took a peek? Do you know how you compare?

Is it possible that he's asking because he's *ahem* "not worried"?

Anyway, I know you don't think this could possibly end with your buddy banging your wife, but even in the unlikely scenario, we need to know what the damage would be. If he's a particularly big fella, it might be a risk you just can't take.

 
People are so selfish these days.  I remember the good ol' days when a friend could ask for a simple favor like a ride to the airport, a hand moving, or you laying pipe to his wife; and you gladly obliged.

I don't see how you would be able to resist banging her if she is all over you tonight while everyone is rolling on some quality powder. My suggestion would be to talk with your wife and perhaps have her sign up to FBGs so she can join in our conversation.

If you two decide not to make the party this evening, I would just send a quick text to your buddy around 9pm simply saying Not going to be able to make it tonight, Happy New Year. Then don't respond to any text he might send back or answer any calls. Your buddy and the Portague will get the picture.

Me and my wife did the swinging thing for a year and a half. We survived it fine but there is definitely a lot of unforeseen problems that can pop up along the way.

And when you do show your wife and she says she wants to go anyways, then you're in bigger trouble than you thought. Game over for you.
 
The problems is mostly jealously. As much fun as it seems in the heat of the moment, it does not always feel the same afterward.
