How do you like the list so far, Krista? I’m anxious to get your opinion since you inspired the thread. From 2017. Guy can still sing nearly anyone under the table. And I guess we are no longer allowed to objectify, but if we were I'd say he's hot AF at nearly 60 years old.
From a woman who was hurting? Or maybe a man who certainly wasn't.Up next: A early 70s hit song from the legendary Stax Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
More like Skip Bayless styleTim building drama Stephen A Smith style!

I'm loving the thread. To me it's really hard to come up with great songs that were the only hits for an artist; as you've been doing this it's struck me that most one-hit wonders only had one hit for good reason. As a result, there are quite a few songs on your list so far that I don't much care for, but I'm having a hard time thinking of many one-hit wonder songs that I do love. Your list is nicely diverse in terms of musical styles and eras. How do you like the list so far, Krista? I’m anxious to get your opinion since you inspired the thread.
That was killing me, too!Pretty nice.
The cougars in the crowd were ready to rip him apart![]()
Some of them were crying. Gotta say he was killing it. Looks like he was playing atop Whistler at sunset or some place epic as well I'm guessing the Rosé was flowing liberally. That was killing me, too! Some of them were crying.
How many were panting "take on meeeee!?".That was killing me, too! Some of them were crying.
If the #1 overall song isnt a specific 80s song, this whole list is null and void.Well yes and no.
Looking over my top 10, there are no 60s songs, 6 70s songs, 3 80s songs, and 1 90s song.
I don't understand this comment. Are you saying great pop music doesn't sound like the era it comes from? I have a hard time thinking of any great pop music songs that don't have distinct qualities of the era it came from.54. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”- The Tokens (1961)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_LBmUwi6mEo
Originally recorded in South Africa in the 1920s, based on an even older folk song, this was adapted by the Doo *** group the Tokens in 1961 and pop music history was made.
Doo *** music with very few exceptions tends to sound dated to me, significant only to its time and era and lacking the timeless quality of great popular music. But this song is an exception, probably because it is such a merger of styles (30 years before Paul Simon did the same thing). There’s a quality here that still makes it worth listening to in the 21st century. It’s great music. A weem a way.
Is that a hill worth dying on?If the #1 overall song isnt a specific 80s song, this whole list is null and void.
The evolution of the song is fascinating to me. The earliest known version was recorded in South Africa in 1939:54. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”- The Tokens (1961)

Sound anymore dated then the Jefferson Airplane? How about Gary Numan or Lipps Inc? More dated than that "Mmmmmmmm" thing you posted a while back?54. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”- The Tokens (1961)

Yes. Certain types of music sound more dated to me than others. Now that’s a subjective attitude and it’s no doubt related heavily to my age and background, but there you go.Sound anymore dated then the Jefferson Airplane? How about Gary Numan or Lipps Inc? Glad you like it. Based on my (limited) understanding of your musical tastes, I suspect you will like the top 50 songs a lot more than the bottom.I'm loving the thread. Have you heard about the 1990 cover version by the all-female hair band Precious Metal?53. “Mr. Big Stuff”- Jean Knight (1970)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bn6NhL60KHM
The video is from Soul Train- check out her awesome hair! That alone makes the song worthwhile.
Actually, she’s not the greatest singer IMO. But the professionalism of the musicians and backup singers and the funkiness of the song make the whole thing work great and puts it squarely in the “classic soul” category.
That really sucks. But it must have been Trump right? LolHave you heard about the 1990 cover version by the all-female hair band Precious Metal?
Take a guess at who demanded $250K to appear in their video after previously agreeing to do it for $10K?![]()
Based on your selections so far I'm confident this isn't it - but, if this were my list, the song in question would definitely feature a fiddle.Up next: the other Scandinavian group. (From Sweden).
I'm thinking you can chuck that idea.Based on your selections so far I'm confident this isn't it - but, if this were my list, the song in question would definitely feature a fiddle.
will we find this pick to be shocking?Up next: the other Scandinavian group. (From Sweden).
I think you’re thinking of a Dutch band that will be featured a little later. Not Scandinavian.will we find this pick to be shocking?
It will for sure open up your eyes.will we find this pick to be shocking?
Well, I thought I knew what it was, but that sure has me doubting it.It will for sure open up your eyes.
Heavy D's first single was a cover of this song53. “Mr. Big Stuff”- Jean Knight (1970)

Freddy Snakeskin would play this often back in the early days of KROQ. Love it.53. “Mr. Big Stuff”- Jean Knight (1970)

I guess this thread has passed me by.Well, I thought I knew what it was, but that sure has me doubting it.
Yes on the singer. But the song itself drove me insane when it was released and still does.52. “Lovefool”- The Cardigans (1996)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NI6aOFI7hms
Really a catchy tune. It sticks with you (not in a bad way.) That singer is amazingly beautiful too. (I’m allowed to say that right?)
I'm guessing song recognition between Hooked on a Feeling and Lovefool would be about 5000:1 in favor of Blue Swede. there's no way it can not be one of the top 100 one-hit wonders. That's a travishamockery.Sorry I considered Blue Swede, just don’t think enough of that tune.
I feel silly, the band I was thinking of is actually Dutch....It will for sure open up your eyes.
I was just thinking of this song in the makeup aisle of the store the other day. Really catchy song, as you note.52. “Lovefool”- The Cardigans (1996)

Some of the most famous one hit wonders of all time are not going to make this list.I'm guessing song recognition between Hooked on a Feeling and Lovefool would be about 5000:1 in favor of Blue Swede. there's no way it can not be one of the top 100 one-hit wonders. That's a travishamockery.
Thought they were Irish, for some reason. Kinda threw 'em into the same hat as The Cranberries.52. “Lovefool”- The Cardigans (1996)

It is arguably the best use of “ooga chaka ooga ooga”of any song written, recorded, performed, sold, bought, or processed in the 20th century.Sorry I considered Blue Swede, just don’t think enough of that tune.
It's easy to forget their crap.I guess I forgot Ace of Base had a bunch of songs.
It's perfect in Guardians.I'm guessing song recognition between Hooked on a Feeling and Lovefool would be about 5000:1 in favor of Blue Swede. there's no way it can not be one of the top 100 one-hit wonders. That's a travishamockery.
Catchy tunes. Them and Roxette. It's easy to forget their crap.
But you went with Terry Jacks? Pretty much the same imotimschochet said:Sorry I considered Blue Swede, just don’t think enough of that tune.
