The next three weeks are going to be a challenge. I am taking the family traveling to southeast Asia so travel+ unique foods + spotty access to the internets will make it difficult to accurately track calorie intake.
I have a weekend family camping trip also. For a minute I thought you might be a family member until you mentioned some of the Asia stuff.I am only taking a 12-pack of beer versus my normal case+. I should have time to sneak in a walk each night or morning also. It would be nice to bring my bike, but I don't think we have the space.Have a 4 day corporate outing after that. It's going to be a tough 7 days or so.

I lifted this morning (mostly upper body) and did some cardio. Does lifting really burn no calories? I added in every exercise I did, reps, weight etc and it did not change my calories at all. Probably not going to bother recording this in the future since it appears to be nothing more than notes from what I can tell.
Depends on level of intensity, but the app is lying regardless. Lifting is not true cardio, but there are cardiovascular elements in it. How much? Depends. Type of exercise, # of reps, amount of rest, your current health, among other things. In the end, your heart rate will give you a good idea how much you're burning off, but it's somewhere north of nothing.

After the first couple of times, I stopped including "lifting". Any calories I burn lifting, I consider a bonus."It's not the journey, but the goal."-Abraham Lincoln

A bad back that sidelined me from exercise plus a weekend reunion/camping with the wife's family has not been kind to the old diet. :yucky: I also discovered how many calories there are in cheese  The next three weeks are going to be a challenge. Just add rat and cat to your remembered foods before you leave. That will let update all your meals in Asia quickly when you do have internet access.

Same here... I want to burn the most calories possible so Ive stopped including things like walking the dog, mowing the lawn and any weightlifting I do. I feel like the MFP calorie measurements for cardio is WAY too high anyway. My bike shows 400 calories and MFP would show something like 750 calories so I just use the lower.

down another 3# this week. I am now officially (although barely) in the 230s at 239.5#. :pickle:
 I'm down 10#, been on MFP for a month. Had to recalculate my numbers this morning.
Fantastic work to both of you! Keep going!
I re calculated at the beginning of the week. It came back with 100 fewer calories than i was originally allowed. I found this curious - I have lost 12 pounds since i started. Not sure why they would take away calories.

As you lose weight your maintenance requirements drop. The app adjusts for this as you lose weight.

lower body weight = lower basal metabolic rate. A smaller body uses less calories.

really? the smaller you are, the less calories you require. a 5'5", 165lb male requires alot less calories than a 6'1", 225lb male

Amazed that you guys are dropping 10lbs in a month.
Helps to be a fatty first. I dropped another 2 lbs in the past 4 days. This app has really changed my life over the past month or so. I really have not given up the foods I love. I just eat them in much smaller portions, not as often and filled my diet with much healthier options. I have had several customers mention that I look younger and can tell I have lost weight already.

Pretty much... I would LOVE to keep up the pace Im on but I know Im going to hit a wall hard very soon

For those guys that ran into a plateau, roughly what week did it occur?

I am on day 20 of roughly a 120 day trial to see where I can get too.

This... and I also think that a larger weight loss occurs in the beginning because it is new. The body adjusts to the change after a month or so, and things tend to level off.

i lost 50lbs since january 1. never hit a plateau
I think I hit one about 15lbs and then again around 30 but the second one is more of my own doing. I'm not trying to lose anymore more weight just maintain around where I'm at, if I drop a few more lbs great, if not, great. It does help if you are large to start with. Say you're overweight by a good 100lbs, lot easier for you to lose a big chunk as opposed to someone who is looking to drop that last 10lbs.

I weighed myself this morning and lost a couple more pounds (~14 so far). I am going to wait until after a hard week coming up to put my "official" weight into MFP.

My mom is going to tell me on our family camping trip that I look too thin. Most of my immediate family is overweight. It is hard to explain to her that a 5'10" guy shouldn't weigh 195 lbs.

Yesterday was my first real blowout day of the month and man I feel like crap this morning.

Back to the old grind ... got a few extra pounds to work off :boxing:

I don't know how you guys do this and still drink. I make sure every available calorie I have is for food. Either zero or near zero cals go to drinks for me.

Those days are good. it keeps your body guessing and helps you not plateau.
Thats what I was hoping... I was on the exact same # (down to the 1/10th) for five straight days despite eating very clean and staying well below my net calories

yea i plateaued for like 3 weeks. it wasnt until i started eating more that i began losing weight. Some people also carb cycle. Like if you eat low carb, have a day where you eat a ton of carbs. Same with calories. It keeps your body guessing.

Went to a wedding reception last night and crushed the buffet. Personal choice for me as a sort of cheat day. I did my regular cardio in the morning but knew full well i was going to go over my calorie limit last night. I am pretty much holding steady with where i was. Still doing well though.

Great work by everyone in here

I'm down 64 lbs since January (granted I used Loseit vs MFP though I hear MFP is better); these apps are life changers. Didn't really change my eating habits much (other than eliminating non-alcohol calorie drinks), but kept myself more accountable with portions and unnecessary snacking, and have been hitting the gym pretty regularly.

16 more to go to reach my elusive dream weight goal. I'm doing it this time.

Thats awesome! You'll get there

Oat -

I just downloaded walk tracker. I was curious how far I walk from my car to my office. Turns out to be around .2 miles. There are two buildings I usually am in while at work. My office and a main admin building where meetings are held, etc. I walk about 2-3 times back and forth a day. It's a .22 mile round trip. So 3 trips a day is .66 and to and from my car is .4 so I am walking a mile a day roughly. I didn't realize that.

its very difficult. if you wanna lose weight you basically gotta give up drinking alot
i have lost a ton and still drink. I just try to keep it to one night a week. Usually thats my cheat day anyway. The other days, if i want a drink i will work it into the calorie limit. I will say it is much easier to lose when not drinking. but its definitely doable while still enjoying beverages! :banned:

That is AWESOME! Great work. Keep up the good work.

I am for sure having a hard time with the last 5 lbs but I do think they are on their way off. I am shocked with the daily weight fluctuations I experience. I am currently at 154. My original goal was 150 but I am now aiming for 145 to account for the weight fluctuations. I want 150 to be my highest not 155. I am also hearing the your to skinny spiel from people  People these days just dont know what a healthy body weight is. My body fat is at 14%. I would like to see it at 10% or under.

MFP is gold.

I've been getting that some lately myself. I tend to lose a lot of weight in my face so I look skinnier than I really am but folks always comment and I'm like you, it's been so long that most people in this atass country have seen what a healthy person looks like, they think they are sick.

Pretty happy with MFP. It has at least some of the food that we will be eating in Asia. Had breakfast of nan (a type of bread similar to a totilla) and bhaji (curried vegtables) and lunch of momo's (steamed dumplings). MFP had all of the above in its database :) If the rest of the trip goes like today I should be able to lose weight while traveling.

2) Does the ambient temperature you work out in affect the amount of calories you burn? I was wondering if I am burning more calories when running around a outdoor track at 90 degrees than doing the same distance and speed inside an air conditioned gym.
I'm pretty sure it does. At least I'd really like to think it does, cuz I like to run when it is hottest. I ran 6 miles on Saturday in the middle of the afternoon when it was over 100 degrees. Your body has to work extra hard to keep cool, and I'm sure you burn more calories to do so.Although I don't recommend anyone just go out and run in 100 degree heat unless you work your way up. Heat exhaustion is the suck! I have been doing this all year, and my body is used to it by now.

Things are continuing to move in a good direction. Just finished week 3 with the app.

Initial weight: 164

Week 1: 159.5

Week 2: 157

Week 3: 155

My initial goal is to get to 148 and then reevaluate.

6 weeks in and i'm down 12lbs. Another 11 to get to my goal. :boxing:

Yea temp plays a factor. Funny, we just had a great discussion about the suck factor in the 10k thread here. Ned posted a good link within that thread as to the difference in relative humidity and dew point. If you're running outside add temperature and dew point together to establish the "suck factor". Essentially anything 130 or below is great for running, 131-140 gets a little muggy but is still fine, 141-150 dials up the suck factor and anything over 150 means you start sweating as you walk to the start line.

How I Lost It: I was -- and still am -- a stay at home mother, with a fixed income and not a lot of extra spending money for a gym membership, pre-packaged diet foods or diet programs. With the support of my family, I came up with a diet and exercise plan that actually works.

I started out by eating 1,000 calories a day. I had a journal where I wrote down everything I ate and drank. I now use the Myfitnesspal app on my phone. I did aerobics and took up tennis. My whole family plays, and my father got me out on that court and working hard. I became an avid tennis player, working out two to three hours a day, five days a week.

Weight Watchers is working on something similar. It sounds like the best things about this one is that the device is waterproof. i think they should add a taser to it, but they won't listen to me.
