I kept expecting the pats to select a RB, and here we are just about done and they haven't selected or traded for one. does it look like Maroney will get yet another shot to be a feature back there?

Sounds like Lynch to the Pat's to me.
Highly doubtful. Sounds like LMo-Taylor-BJGE-Morris-Faulk again. If Maroney didn't have his fumbling issues last season (something he is not known for) he would have had a very strong 2nd half of the season. I still buy his kool-aid.

Why highly doubtful?
The Bills are not going to trade Lynch to a division rival, unless the Pats offer alot more than any other team, which wont happen.

Well for one at this point what would they even offer to Buffalo? A 2011 pick? Adalius Thomas? Belichick does have a history of trading for vets before camp. Doug Gabriel and Derrick Burgess come to mind. However like said before I don't see

A. Buffalo wanting to deal him to a rival.

B. The Patriots viewing him as an upgrade

C. Bill wanting to give any draft help to the Bills

Yeah makes sense, seems like teams are more willing to trade within the division than they used to but unlikely to happen here.

The Pats are making a huge mistake if they don't add another RB to the mix before the season begins. Their current group is pretty pedestrian...all pretty solid but nothing a defense really has to worry about. They need a playmaker back there in the worst way...someone who can turn a screen-pass into a 50 year TD.

As for Maroney...he is what he is...a decent RB who will probably never be more than decent. There's just something missing with this kid and it seems for every step forward he takes he finds a way to take one back pretty quickly.

We've never seen what Maroney can do wire to wire. We've seen him get hot down the stretch a couple times, but only once the other guys got hurt. If they don't bring anyone else in and he finally gets a chance to start the full season, he could be the steal of fantasy drafts this year.

Yeah because he gets hurt or benched for sucking. He'll only be the starting RB when all of the 32+ RBs on the roster get hurt again.

He will start game one.

That's not really how it's happened.

Considering that the rest of the RB stable is well past their prime, I think this has to be some sort of vote of confidence for Maroney. He did play well last year, although it seemed like a key fumble down the stretch put him back in the doghouse.

Unless Bill is going to turn the reins over to BJGE (unlikely) or is waiting to see who is out there in FA, Maroney may get another shot.

Seriously? You don't think Maroney has had ample opportunity to show us what he can do? We've seen what he can do. This is it.

Yeah... it sort of is. Belichick would like few things more than to have Maroney to step up and play like the stud RB he was expected to be when he was drafted. To suggest that Maroney hasn't been given ample opportunity to be that guy is complete and utter nonsense.

Pat Paschall added as a rookie free agent. Some people were high on him.

I like Benjarvus the best of the bunch. I think he could close out games and be a beast in the snow. Sure seemed like Maroney was in the doghouse at the end of last year. Who knows if he'll be back in there as the lead back.

I thought the same last year, but when Taylor and Morris went down, Belicheck went with Maroney. And then when Maroney landed back in the doghouse, he went back to Morris/Taylor.Seems like Bill just doesn't believe in BJGE being a workhorse.

There is a long way to go before the start of the season. The Patriots don't have any great options at rb, but as a team they were fairly successful on the ground. The Patriots had other glaring needs that they had to address in the draft before they could focus on the rb position. I would not be shocked at all if they were to add a veteren via free agency or in a minor trade. Granted, I don't think they will bring in a stub rb, but I do think they will bring someone in.

I was way too optimistic hoping the Pats would be able to land Dez Bryant in the first and Jahvid Best in a second round trade up. Obviously I was let down, however, I too really thought they were going to address their RB issue.

As a big UConn fan, I was waiting to see where Andre Dixon was going to go, and hoped the Pats would grab him in the later rounds. Turns out the dude wasn't drafted at all. Even in my biased opinion, I think that is crazy. The dude is a beast. He split time with Donald Brown; last years first round pick by the Colts, and this year with the freshman Jordan Todman, another potential future first round pick, and he was just as good as both of them.

I was at the game two years ago, against #10 USF when Dixon, as a sophomore, had to carry the load because Brown was hurt. Uconn won what was at the time the biggest win in school history. Dixon finished with about 200 yards rushing.

Again, I know I'm bias, but Andre Dixon is a 6' 1", 200 lb RB stud, and will be playing football for some team in the NFL. I hope the Pats bring him in for a look, because I really like this kid.

Dixon will be battling Issaac Redman and Dwyer for a roster spot

NE Patriots 2010 UDFA Patrick Paschall.....

Patrick Paschall - RB - North Dakota State

By Joe Everett on Monday, 8th February 2010

This guy is a nifty runner in open space and brings an added dimension out of the backfield.

Pat Paschall has decent hands and has proven to be a competent runner between the tackles.

The level of competition that Paschal went up against at North Dakota State is a big question mark and his ability to pass block will be heavily scrutinized, as with most incoming backs.

He could be an extremely nice find for a team that runs a zone blocking scheme because he brings great cut back ability and what looks to be excellent field-vision.

East-West Shrine Game: Pat Paschall (North Dakota State) was finally wearing the correct helmet today and he looked fantastic! Paschall is great in open space, but really looked good between the tackles today. He stayed low when going through the hole, and would wait until he was in the second level before bouncing it outside. He sees the field well, and had a great cutback run that would have been at least a 40-yard touchdown. The West squad was using him effectively on outside pitch plays, but he was also grinding out tough yards inside. He would keep his feet moving after contact, and has a great stutter step before changing direction. Paschall doesn’t lose much speed when changing direction, and had a spin move he used inside the hole at the line of scrimmage to gain 4-yards on what should have been a loss of two yards. – Draft Guys (01.20.10)

East-West Shrine Game: Pat Paschall (North Dakota State) had some nice runs between the tackles today. His game is best suited in space, but Paschall would lower his head and try to get yards inside. He would keep his feet moving after contact, and even had a run where he was able to break a tackle then bounce it outside for a big gain. He’s decent as a receiver, but not a natural hands catcher. He’s got speed, cutback ability, and the quickness to get to the edge. – Draft Guys (01.19.10)

East-West Shrine Game: Pat Paschall (North Dakota State) is thin, quick, and agile. However, he runs out of control and is often making moves when moves aren’t necessary to gain positive yardage. Because he’s out of control there were times today when Paschall would lose his balance if he did get to the open field. – Draft Guys (01.18.10)

Special Thanks to our friends Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom for their reports from the Shrine Game.
