Name 10 First Rounders that will disappoint (1 Viewer)

History says more than 10 will stink. Or maybe not stink. Maybe disappoint.

List 10 guys (or more, if your name is lod01) that will disappoint. 10 guys if you had to bet on to bust, you would choose.

Mine:

Shane Ray-Not sure if he is anything other than an ordinary athlete, and might be JAG in the league.

Shaq Thompson-He's 6', 228. Where he play? Thomas Davis is a bad comp, he was an insane athlete coming out. Might be a nice guy, that just never is worth a 1st rounder. Don't hate the guy, moreso the spot.

Arik Armstead-6'7", 290, he's gonna get chopped down like a tree. Ordinary in college, why would he be a stud in the NFL?

Breshard Perriman--I dare to question Ozzie the Great and Powerful. Perriman has fast feet, and hands like feet. Fast, but not quick. He's about as smooth as Coby Fleener.

Vic Beasley-Listed at 246 pounds. Once he gets off the Dianabol, he'll be back at 218 pounds, and NFL tackles will just swat him past the QB.

Damarious Randall--Think he might just wind up being ordinary, and not sure if he gets much PT with Burnett and Clinton-Dix there.

Kevin Johnson--Really skinny, some big WRs are gonna kick sand in his face for a few years. I would have gambled on Peters.

Jameis Winston--I don't trust him, and I don't trust that team to get the players around him.

Kevin White--One year wonder in college, now plays 2nd fiddle for the next few years in CHI, a team without a QB it doesn't hate.

Andrus Peat--Think he might be a stiff. Kinda forced this one, cause I wanted to pick one of the OTs, and Flowers is too obvious. Also, he's 6'7", he's a concussion danger from Brees' passes hitting him in the back of the head.

DGB

Hunter will step up, Douglas will be a nice addition, and McBride will be like John Brown. DGB will have a surprisingly hard time getting on the field.

Winston

I don't at all see what everyone else does when they praise this guy. VJax is totally overrated and always has been. McKown threw for plenty of yards til he got to Tampa, Glennon seemed fine. They can't run.

Three seasons ago, Freeman looked ok when they could run. Two years of 500 yards from your main RB isn't cutting it at all! Isn't that what Sankey got in TEN too?

They needed a RB and/or linemen but took a QB just like TEN.

I have no idea why Martin is meh after running for 1500 but isn't this the third year in a row that they say he'll be improved and it was OL play and injuries and...cmon.

Evans is a gem and a true beast of a WR. Run the ball so he doesn't have 10 guys draped on him when you throw him the ball. He pancaked a DB last year, run behind him for all I care, but they gotta be able to run

DGB wasn't drafted in the 1st

New Orleans Saints Stephone Anthony ILB

Fast riser up draft boards after the combine, seems like a great athlete but is he a great football player? After the college football season ended it just seems like this guy went from a good, mid round possible sleeper to a first round draft pick. That never seems right to me.

Green Bay Packers Damarious Randall S

It's almost as if this pick is more a condemnation of the in-th-box Collins-type S more than it is a vote in confidence in Randall. Is he a CB that can also play S or is he not quite a CB that also isn't the tackler a S needs to be?

Indianapolis Colts Phillip Dorsett WR

Special teams player that will need a lot of bad things to happen to make much of an impact. IF AJ production falls off a cliff, IF Gore doesn't fix the running game, IF Moncrief doesn't take the next step, etc.

Denver Broncos Shane Ray DE

Forget the pot. Forget the injury. This guy isn't athletic enough to play LB full stop. So he's a 245lb DE in a 3-4 defense? I hear a lot of people that defend this pick based on what they think about pot but I hear very few people explain explain how a high-motor, low-athletic guy is going to make an impact in the NFL at his size.

Cincinnati Bengals Cedric Ogbuehi OT

Has a lot of raw materials to work with but needs a lot of coaching and with the injury will likely fall behind Jake Fisher and may never catch up. You have to wonder if this pick was as much a way of gaining leverage in contract negotiations as it is CIN believing in Ogbuehi.

San Francison 49ers Arik Armstead DT

I don't understand his lack of production either. If you look ho-hum in the PAC-12 I'm not sure how you are projected to be a dominant DL in the NFL.

Houston Texans Kevin Johnson CB

I just think there was only one true first round CB talent in the draft(Peters) and teams tried to convince themselves that Johnson/Waynes were just as good without the attitude question marks. Plus, FA CB's got PAID this offseason son so if you want an elite CB and don't want to break the bank you have to reach and hope.

San Diego Chargers, Melvin Gordon RB

This isn't a condemnation of Gordon nearly as much as it is the situation. Gordon already had question marks about how much he would contribute in the passing game and then he goes to a team where he won't even be given the opportunity to try imo. Add to that SD had one of the worst run blocking lines in the NFL and added one good player, Franklin. He helps but the last time I checked he can't play three positions at once. Gordon to DAL on the other hand might have set the world on fire.

Minnesota Vikings Trae Waynes CB

See: Kevin Johnson.

New York Giants Ereck Flowers OG

I LOVE drafting OL in the first round, especially when you have a statue at QB like Manning but Flowers just seems limited for a top 10 OLman.

Shaq Thompson-He's 6', 228. Where he play? Thomas Davis is a bad comp, he was an insane athlete coming out. Might be a nice guy, that just never is worth a 1st rounder. Don't hate the guy, moreso the spot.

We agree on most players, and I even agreed with you on these two players entering the draft but I thought both fell into the perfect situations.

Nobody, anywhere, views Ray as a 3-4 DE. Those guys start at like 275.

So what position does he play?

Lots of draft sites did, he was a tweener

OLB Only way he contributes is if he's rushing from a standing position.

basically picking 10 means 1 out of every three players selected. I stopped at 8.

In order.

---Bad

Shane Ray. Trouble. My Steelers needed a pass rusher in the worst way and I wanted nothing to do with this guy.

Marcus Mariota. Not a "mid-play reader of defenses". As the #2 and a QB, it has to be about titles, that wont be his legacy.

Andrus Peat. Too weak up top. This will be badly exposed vs some NFL DEs. Not a guard either.

---Below average

Cedric Ogbuhei. Drafted hurt. Has issues with technically advanced rushers. Should play okay, but not a great T and #21 overall.

Byron Jones. Going to look really bad at times. And at times his athleticism will shine. Mike Mamula says hi!

---Not great.

Arik Armstead. Will never come close to filling in for Justin Smith. He isnt built for the 3-4 like that, the run game will always be an issue.

Brett Perriman. In the first you are looking for multidimensional game changers. Not one or two trick ponies. He isnt better then what they have in Smith&Smith.

Brandon Scherf. Will play for a long time, but at #5 he needs to be a dominant LT. They were talking about Guard as possibility... at #5?

IMO this will have more to do with guys drafted into impossible situations or bad coaching staffs or just don't put in the necessary work. All 32 have the talent to succeed.

So do you think he'll be a third-and-long pass rushing LB playing part time, or do you think he'll actually be more than that?

BTW I'm not doubting you, I just heard so many people say before the draft that he was an edge rusher that didn't have the athleticism to play in space as an OLB.

Agreed, that's why he's on the top of my list. I didn't realize anyone viewed him as an OLB.

Gordon catches the ball fine, but wasn't used as a blocker much but will work hard to do it. The guy is more than willing to put the work in. If this is a this year only answer you may be right but I see him succeeding there long term.
