Name the five men (1 Viewer)

The most current 3 are easy: Smith, Payton, Brown

I had to look up the others, but I won't spoil it yet (although, if you're searching there's a link with this list presented very well).

By the way, Chase, my "source" says that #5 became the all time leader before 1950 ('49). His career ended after '50, though.

Prior is tough:

Clark Hinkle

Cliff Battles

Ace Gutowsky?

Tony Canadeo?

Old Timey guy?

Jim Brown held it for a long time. I think Dorsett and Peyton went back and forth on it after him. I'd guess...

Joe Perry

Jim Brown

Walter Peyton

T. Dorsett

E. Smith

Bonus - no idea..

Yes, he did. But in 1950, 1951, 1952...1957, he was the all time leader.

True. But you said this...
Bonus points -- name the two RBs who were the all time leaders before 1950.
...too. There were 3 RBs who were the all time leaders before 1950.I'm just pickin' nits.

Fair point ;) .

Battles sounds right. It seems like SVB took over pre-1950, but he's definitely one of the guys in the 5 post 1950. One of the top 2-3 Eagles ever.

This must have been a lot easier than I thought. I didn't know who held it before Jim Brown, or who held it before him, although I'd heard of both players.

Emmit Smith - 2002-current

Walter Payton - 1984-2001

Jim Brown - 1963-1983

Joe Perry - 1958-1962

Steve Van Buren - 1949-1957

Clarke Hinkle - 1941-1948

Cliff Battles - 1932-1940

There were, of course, running backs before 1932. I'm not sure where I cut off the data, but it's certainly possible (if not likely) that someone else was the all time rushing leader in 1932 or 1933. I do believe, though, that by 1940, Battles was the all time leader. Nice guesses, guys.

Here were the top ten career rushing leaders at the end of the 1978 season:

Code:
Jim Brown

O.J. Simpson

Jim Taylor

Joe Perry

Franco Harris

Leroy Kelly

Larry Csonka

John Henry Johnson

Floyd Little

Lydell Mitchell
