NATE IRVING (1 Viewer)

I read Jene's eta for him as mid season. Has there been any new comments made by the coach's or front office that would indicate Irving could start any sooner? Is he a 3 down thumper or just base defense LB when he plays?

Was Mays a 3 down lb with KC last year? Would it be Mays and Williams in the nickel? What type of 4-3 does Fox run? Thanks in advance!

There haven't been many quotes from teams since the draft, but the local speculation that the lack of reps are likely to keep Irving from starting right away are reasonable. Mays didn't play every down as a starter last year, but the Broncos aren't likely to have Mario Haggan at LB this year. I would guess that Von Miller will play on the line of scrimmage in subpackages and the Broncos may not have the personnel to play dime right away. I think there's a good chance that the MLB is an every-down player right away, whichever wins the job.

The Denver 4-3 is likely to be closer to what Gregg Williams has run over the past few seasons (including some of the hybrid concepts if the personnel makes sense) than what Fox has run. It should be more aggressive, with possibly the same amount of Cover-2/Tampa-2 concepts.

Does Von Miller's presence pass rushing from the LOS hurt or help Robert Ayers in your opinion Jene?

Hurts him tremendously if it costs Ayers a spot in subpackages. Lots of ways the Broncos could get Miller, Ayers and Dumervil on the field in the nickel at the same time, though. Have to see how it develops in camp.
