*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

Meanwhile, Bulls with the longest current winning streak in the league at 5. I'm thinking they have a chance at the second round again even without Deng. Augustin has been a blessing.
The same Augustin who couldn't beat out Dwight Buycks and Julian Stone for 2nd or 3rd string role in Toronto?

Was watching end of it last night. Bad no call.

Austin Rivers went with zero urgency & had zero desire to have the ball in his hands. Likely would have choked anyway at the line.

Speaking of Rivers, talk about a guy that should have spent more time in college. Probably all 4. He's a guard that can't shoot or play the point.

If that is supposed to be a shooting foul, I don't think it's wise for a team to ever to use the foul when up by three strategy. Too easy for the player being fouled to throw up a shot.

Early returns on the Deng trade for CLE are...underwhelming.
they're 1-1 with him. 11-22 without.
But the L was a 44 point loss... to the Kings.
Once they realized it was out of reach, they started conserving energy for the Lakers game tomorrow night. Cavs 110, Lakers 103.
How are the Lakers going to score 103 points?
have you seen the Cavs defense?

me neither.

A team of 5 Anthony Bennetts shouldn't lose by 44 to the Kings.
A team of 5 Anthony Bennetts would lose by 44 to Burger King

I know the cool thing to do is bash on Lin from the Rockets but the last few games I have seen of him he really has looked great running that offense.Limiting his mistakes, not forcing shots and controlling the tempo of the game.

Yup. He is having a nice season for sure.

The couple times I've watched Lin he's looked great, including Saturday night. But I made the mistake of going down the stat geek rabbit hole with him just now, and it wasn't pretty. The 15.1 turnover ratio is 6th worst among the 72 Hollinger-qualified PGs, and is the worst in the league if you only look at the guys getting starter minutes (other than Kendall Marshall, who has played 9 games). Meanwhile his assist ratio is only 22.9, 44th of the 72 PGs. You have to go pretty far down the list to get to anyone whose A/TO ratio is below 2/1, and Lin's is WAY below 2/1. Even worse are his secondary passing numbers like secondary assists, assist opportunities, and points created by assist. He's not even in the top 50 in secondary assists, a category led by pass-first PGs like Paul, Rubio and Wall but with plenty of scorers in the mix. Lin is ranked with the likes of Zaza Pachulia and Josh Smith.

Very efficient scorer, though. He's got the fourth-highest TS% among qualified PGs in the league (behind only Calderon, Prigioni and Marshall). Some of that is sharing the court with Harden who I think takes most of the shots when the set blows up and the shot clock winds down, but it's still pretty freaking good.

I thought Lin held his own against Wall and outplayed him in long stretches the other night.

I did notice McHale was using Lin a little different than in the past because before it used to be Lin basically handing it off the Harden in the front court and Lin being a 2nd or 3rd option for a shooter and now he is letting Lin handle the ball more and create.

Maybe Abe can speak to more if he's noticed any changes in the offense?

Please let this happen!

If you're looking for an assist/floor general type of PG move along. However, Lin has settled into the role that Simmons likes to call "Heat Check" guy. He's perfect in a 3 guard rotation and/or as a microwave 6th man who can get into the lane. He's found his niche and I'm happy for him.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking too. He's perfect for that role and obviously a bigger asset than many people (myself included) thought he would be. But he's been putting up those sixth man type numbers for the most part as a "traditional" PG with Beverly out, right? Kinda weird. Will be interesting to see what happens when Beverly returns.

It's a good fit for a team that has a James Harden that can handle the ball and run the offense. Still don't love how foolish Lin is with turnovers.

Boogie is really good. If gay keeps playing well (admittedly much better) then that pair plus Thomas plus Randle or Parker as a high pick would be solid.

I was interested to see what Cousins would do against Indy's defense, and the answer was apparently anything he wanted. Really looked good.

Stat stuffing a little tonight. The game was never in question and the Pacers D took the night off.

The game was competitive through the end of the third because Cousins went bonkers. Cousins sat in the fourth and it turned into a laugher.

My brother and I were drinking the other night trying to list the best players who were passed their prime (or retired) that had never been to the Finals.

Dominique.

Carmelo

Paul (although the last two are still in their prime although the end is nearer than the start.

Any others come to mind?

Pistol Pete was the first name that came to mind for me.

Well, you were wrong. The Lakers didn't score 103.
