*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (8 Viewers)

If I was an NBA GM, I would stay as far away from GA as I can. He's actually my favorite player in the NBA, but while he is playing well now there is no way I want to commit 20 million a year for the next 4 for someone with knee issues. That's wasting an extra year of Howard's prime compared to Lewis.
Well, the way I'm considering it is that the Magic will be trading the corpse of Rashard Lewis for Arenas. Basically would be a straight salary swap. I think most would agree Arenas is the better player right now, and if I had to wager, would be for the following two seasons.I mean, they're stuck with Lewis either way, so the argument is do you want the upside of Arenas and one extra year, or the carcass of Lewis to carry around, while he takes minutes away from a superior player (Anderson/Bass combo).

Boozer making his Bull debut tonight. The most significant immediate addition is that he will stretch out the big man depth. With either Gibson or Boozer on the floor at all times, the Bulls will typically have a good offensive post player on the floor at all times.
Anybody know if this is on national television, I would love to see how Boozer and Rose coexist?
I don't think so, but you can probably find it on channelsurfing
You might be able to catch the end of it on the NBA channel after the Celtics/Blazers game ends.
his minutes will be limited, I think they said no more than 7 minutes at a time. wait a month once they are in sync with each other.
Introductions kind of funny tonight...Announcer: At forward, 6 foot 9, from Duke...Luol Deng runs out on the courtAnnouncer: ...Number 5, Carlos Boozer!

I'm don't think Washington would take the Lewis contract. I'm sure they'd want Carter instead.

Well that would just be dumb for the Magic. VC is off the books this year, he doesn't hurt them at all. No way in the world are they giving Arenas/Lewis 40 mil a year for the next two years.

If that is the case, I would tell Washington to eat a #### (man part). The difference between Carter and Arenas isn't very large and having the two worst contracts in basketball (Arenas and Lewis) isn't really a formula for success.

If Aaron Brooks wasn't hurt, I'd take the Rockets by 15 @ HOU but since he's hobbled and the Rockets are not nearly at full strength, I'll take them by 2 @ home.

Looking forward to seeing Bynum play. He better watch out for Buddinger or something like this is bound to happen.

And that's why this trade won't happen, IMO.

I think it will at some point this year actually. Both teams have large pieces that aren't helping them get to their main overall goal (Orlando a title; Washington...um...relevance?) Washington gains by getting a year shaved off the Arenas deal and frees Wall up. Orlando wins by getting a better player. Seems to be win-win to me.

Washington would be better off gambling that Arenas continues to behave, be healthy and play well. His trade value could improve.

Guys who aren't franchise players yet make 20 mil a year have no trade value. Arenas will never net a great return. It just really comes down to if Washington wants him on their roster or not.

I agree. They will have to take bad contract(s) in return. But they should hold out for contracts not as horrible as Lewis'.

I'm pretty sure Washington will accept any deal with Gilbert in it.

Not sure if it's been posted, but anyways...long good read...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/sto...201%2FCleveland

And going back a few pages...wasn't it in Boston opening night where they booed the #### out of Lebron all game in what was dubbed "playoff atmosphere" by alot of people even in here? Maybe Boston needs to get over Lebron...or maybe Cleveland can have their "playoff atmosphere" game vs the Lebron's tomorrow.

You need to make that dude your best friend. That is a sick seat you had. Hows the game from way down there? I usually get the cheapest tickets in the entire arena here in Denver...
 He is actually my best friend. It was a great place to watch it and I was surprised their was not much talking and I don't think I heard any trash talking. The only problem I had is that Mike D'Antoni stood in front of me 5-6 times. But I can live with that

There was one guy on the Knicks staff that it seemed like his main job was to clean Stoudemire's goggles

They are both corpses to me since Arenas can blow out a knee or going crazy any minute now.I'd be willing to bet that Lewis plays more games than Arenas the next 4 years.

Amare making the people who said he was no upgrade to David Lee look silly. Amare is a beast and defenses are forced to double or triple team him. David Lee never commanded this type of attention and Amare's defense has won games for the Knicks this year as a matter of fact Knicks lead the league in blocks.

Off topic but does Landry Fields have any chance at ROY or is Blake Griffin a done deal? Fields currently leads all NBA guards in rebounding and has been very efficient.

Lakers don't look like the team to beat in the West.
There you are. Glad to see you didn't commit suicide after the Lakers won their second consecutive title. It must be a very depressing existence when your only joy in life is a Lakers loss and then the team goes on to win the championship. Twice.

Maybe the Magic don't need to make a trade after all. :lmao:
The Magic basically got any shot they wanted early and hit the offensive glass. The Bulls have had the nasty habit of not showing up for games until the 2nd half and you can get away with it against some teams. They could never recover in this one. Howard dominated Noah and that is the scariest thing to me.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I also think that Arenas would be much more productive in the games he did play. I would rather have a solid 18, 5 ast and 4 reb over 60 games each year then 12, 4 reb , and 1 ast from my staring power forward 75 games a year.

Fields looks like a good player, but while he is averaging 11-7-2, Griffin is averaging 21-12-3 and Wall is averaging 18-3-9-3steals. On top of them being statistically better, you are looking at possibly the two most athletic players at their positions who will have TONS of SportsCenter highlights and Fields is kind of a middling athlete who is doing his damage because he has a motor and is putting himself in good positions. I have zero faith in NBA awards voters, so I think the whole highlight thing kills him before he had a chance.

If he plays half of the next 4 years, the point probably still stands. The Magic just need an excuse to get Bass playing 30 minutes a game, this would do it.

Whoever writes the captions for ESPN clearly doesn't watch the Knicks much. A black Landry Fields doesn't look much like a white Danilo Gallinari to me.
When watching Knicks games it is really hard to distinguish between Gallinari and Fields even in HD. I realize there is a difference in skin color but its hard to distinguish between the two.

Nice win by the Knicks. Even without West beating the Hornets in New Orleans is a great win especially the tough schedule coming up. Also, every game the Felton/Stoudmire combination just looks better and better.

Dear Stan Van Gundy,

Brandon Bass is way, way, waaaaay better than Rashard Lewis. Please play them accordingly.

So I guess floor spacing doesn't matter so much now, huh?
The problem with the Magic is twofold:

1) SVG needs to settle on a rotation. You can't start Ryan Anderson one night and then not play him the next. You can't let Pietrus go two games without playing him a minute, and then have him make the inbound pass on a critical play with 3 seconds left. It's insane.

2) We need Pacino to row Rashard Lewis out to a lake and shoot him already. The past 3 years he was ridiculously overpaid, but at least productive. Now he's one of the worst starters in basketball, and worse, he looks scared ####less out there.

When is SVG going to realize Jameer-Carter-Dwight-Bass-Pietrus is his best lineup?
Like I said before, the Magic should have gone after Gerald Wallace instead of Rashard Lewis during that off-season. People here ridiculed me for not "understanding" that Lewis was a floor spacing PF, but I understood that his offensive contributions would not out weigh his deficiencies on defense. Wallace can't space the floor, but he can create his own shot, rebound, and defend. A Howard/Wallace combo would have be a great foundation in building a championship caliber defensive oriented team.
No, you're just as wrong today as you were 3 years ago. Even moreso, as you've had 3 years to think about how wrong you are.The idea works for the Magic, but Lewis has gotten old. They went to a Finals and two ECFs in his 3 years there though. How exactly has it not worked out?

ps, the Magic have been the best, or second-best defensive team in basketball the past 2.5 years. ESPN had something today about how they are on pace to shatter all defensive efficiency records this season too. Teams can't score on them. So, to quote you, they already are a "championship caliber defensive oriented team".

Seriously dude, watch some damn basketball before you get all arrogant about a clearly incorrect argument you made 3 years ago. Jesus.
So if you're ready to put a player at PF who can't space the floor, can you admit that the Magic should have gone after Gerald Wallace instead of Rashard Lewis or do I still need to watch more basketball?

In those whatif sports sims I'd always put together teams with 3 stars and no bench. Glad to see it doesn't work in the NBA either.
