The Magic are getting ready to eat someone's big ugly contract.
I saw another tweet that said after Jameer, Maxiell and Price are jettisoned they'll have $27MM
Not that the Magic are a bad landing spot, but what do they have to offer any FA other than cash? Do they have a plan?
Vucevic, VO, Capella.
Now we're talking. SUPER.UPPER.ELITE.MEGA.TIER posters always bring in the big name FA's....ALWAYS!
:goodposting:

What is the present return rate for eating an Amare-level contract?

Rumor: Jazz will take Boozers contract if the Bulls ship a first along with it. Sounds promising. I'd rather amnesty him, but ownership doesn't typically work like that.

So...who does everyone think Charlotte is likely to overpay at the 2 or 3?
I don't feel like any of the main options will work out, really. Too many other teams ready to throw the max at Heyward. Deng's got his suitors and really isn't a great fit (overbidding on him would be a total panic move). No shot on Parsons. Probably no shot on Ariza. I have no clue how high they'll go on Lance. My gut says it isn't high enough.

I swear I think the big FA signing might be.....Nick Young. And even then, the Lakers are probably still far more likely to re-sign him.
I don't think Charlotte should waste money on overpaying any of the free agents they can get this year. I don't think it's worth it now.
Lance or Parsons would be worth it, IMO.

I agree.

Lance does make me nervous, but I think it's a gamble worth taking. The player he is, is the exact player they need.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like IND is going to let him go (odd for a player that, according to many, is hated by the whole locker room). Players that will pop a punk teammate in the mouf if he needs it should always be welcome in CHA.

It's really possible all these guys just aren't gettable.

I'm perfectly fine if the rest of the off-season involves re-signing McRoberts, getting Nick Young on a cheap contract, and picking up a solid back-up PG.

The following rotation could be really solid, and it doesn't involve throwing out a massive contract that could come back to bite us:

PG: Kemba/Hinrich or Sessions

SG: Young/Hendo/Hairston

SF: MKG/Young/Taylor (if he's healthy and improves, that'd be huge)

PF: McRoberts/Vonleh/Zeller

C: Al/Vonleh/Biz

Lebron told teams that want to meet with him that he wants the Maximum. He did not say that to the heat.
If James takes the max in Miami...what exactly does the 3 of them opting out accomplish team-wise to get better? Doesn't make a ton of sense, esp with the Windhorst article a few weeks ago about James off the court ability to make huge $$s that will allow him to take much less for a contender this FA go 'round. Pretty much I think Windhorst takes huge liberties to get on ESPNs bottom line...otherwise I will believe Heat related news when it happens.

Lebron took less to win titles. He has a sizable amount of funds from outside sources. His #1 concern is winning more titles. I dont see him taking max money from Miami.

Wade - 4-50 (12, 12, 13, 13)

Bosh - 3-32) 10, 10, 12)

James - 3-68 (22, 23, 24)

They have 57 in cap space right? So those three take 44 of it meaning they have some room for others.

That seems like a really low # for Bosh. That would be something if he voluntarily cut his salary in half.

I bet Bosh and Wade both get 4/50, and LeBron gets 2/40 with an opt out. Works out pretty much the same for this year though, I guess.

Think Young would actually want to come to Charlotte? Never really liked Hinrich. It wouldn't hurt to keep CDR around.

I have no idea. CHA could certainly run into the same problem there as with the other FA's, in that so many teams have cap space.

PJ Tucker, though, I think is interested. He's from Raleigh, if that matters at all.

Another option, in the "whiff on all big FA's" scenario would be to just pick up a pick or Jones by taking on Lin's contract. I'm sure LeBron staying makes that less likely though.

Way too low for Bosh. He could easily get almost double that from Houston and have just as good of a chance at a title.

Miami is so interesting right now....

James deserves to be the highest paid player in the league... Signing for 20mil is still a discount.

Wade opted out of a 2/41.5mil contract. No way he sees less than 4/50. aka 12.5 mil a year.

Bosh opted out of a 2/42 contract. He'd get a max deal on the open market. estimate 4 year 80 mil. aka 20 mil a year. even at a discount, lets say 16mil.

so best case scenario, you're looking at 48mil for the big three. Of a 63 mil cap.

Cole brings it up to 50M

Napier 51M

Roster holds for min vet about another 3mil. 54mil

Leaving 9mil to spend on difference makers. Not enough to change the finals outcome....

They can probably get both Gary Payton and Karl Malone for that $9 mil.

And you forgot Haslem.

They're still too young.

Also, Ray Allen will be back. I am certain he will retire being aside Lebron.

I think they can still FA for 9mil and then resign players after. No clue how Haslem gets his 4.5 mil unless its an under-the-table deal

Random twitter stuff

Apparently CHA not showing any interest in Deng (please be true)

Knicks talking to McRoberts

Celtics the first to call Isaiah Thomas

Speaking of Morey, the godfather of nerdy advanced metric asset collecting GMery, it sounds like some pretty groundbreaking stuff going on down in HOU.

What panel at the Sloan Conference discusses the nuances of "making a run at every, single big name FA"?

If Morey hadn't shown us the way, that strategy would've never occurred to a GM.

I like how his GB Simmons even puts it as "Morey knows he's in a free-agent window this year". Because they don't do this every year, even if the best names are Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik.

If Dallas offers Parsons a huge contract soon, how long will Parsons wait around for HOU to finish giving Melo a handjob?

Is this a #RocketsForLife situation here?

I think they have an agreement in place already.
So, Parsons' NBA value might be the highest right now that it'll ever be, and he's just going to wait around so that it's easier for HOU to make him the 4th option on his own team?

There are a lot of glamorous cities fit for a future Bachelor with cap room.

Not doubting it. It just sounds like some incredible confidence.
