*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

Wiggins looked pretty solid in his first (sort of) NBA action. Shot is still coming (4-11), but he can get to the line (8-10) and his defense is as advertised (3 blocks).

If Blake Griffin has really extended his range to the 3 point line..... fuuuuuuuuuck.

Like what the Dubs are doing on offense. They're actually utilizing Bogut as more than a screener. He has free reign to take the ball down the court after a defensive rebound (David Lee too). Also, plenty of screens and actions off the ball. The players look like they're thinking too much, but it's the first pre-season game. Excited!

The next 2-3 offseasons are going to be fascinating.

See a lot of union turmoil. 5-10 players are worth 30-40mill/year. But that's not exactly good for 99% of the union.

C. Parsons making 15mill/year while Lebron makes 20mill/year is insane. Will be even moreso when it's like 26 and 33.

Really can't express how excited I am to have Mark Jackson gone.

I realize it's only pre-season but 2nd year swingman James Ennis poured in 14 points and 10 boards off the bench. This kid looks for real.

Less than a month away from some Miami Heat Basketball!!!

Thank god for the NBA...once baseball is over, I need my nightly sports fix and the NBA delivers no question.

Chalmers

Wade

Deng

McRoberts

Bosh

Not too bad, not too bad at all. Look forward to a good season and surprising the NBA that we are not dead down here. Of course...Wade must play at least 70 games for us to have a shot at anything in the regular season. By all accounts down here he looks trim, and ready to go. The locker room seems far more relaxed as well. James Innis is a very interesting player for us and I will be curious to see if he indeed has made the jump. he looked really good over the summer and off to a good start in the pre-season.

Let the post Lerun errrr Lebron era begin!
That team is hot garbage, the Eastern conference should rebound with exception of the Pacers. Chalmers as a starting PG is a travesty. You will be lucky to get 60 games out of Wade and that's likely him not playing a lick of defense like in the finals against the Spurs. McRoberts is a decent pick up I suppose but he is best coming off the bench. Deng looked really bad last year don't know if it was the mid season transfer or what. I don't see more than 40 wins at best.
Yeah...ummmm..ok.
I agree with everything he said except for 40 wins. The east is bad enough that they should get to 45.
Their division is actually pretty good... except for Orlando of course. ATL, WAS and CHA should all win 45 games.

Mark me down for Miami winning about 35. Look at that 2nd unit Cole/Brown/Granger/Haslem/Anderson :X Outside of Philly or Boston, that may be the worst.

Vegas has Heat over/under at 43.5 wins.

This Saturdays game in Brazil vs. the Cavs will be interesting.

I believe the Heat will win somewhere in the 41-46 range barring unforseen injury issues.

Then there are the Heat homers o Real GM some saying they can make it to the Finals for a 5th straight year.

GB them, I love reading their posts.

I watched the first half of this game last night. Griffin looked good with his outside shots. No hesitation and good form. Like you said, if he adds that to his game consistently. Watch out rest of the NBA.

Oh I have some deep concerns about PG...how can I not. Chalmers and Cole are not exactly world beaters...it is an area of serious concern long term for the season. I would not be surprised to see Shabazz and James Ennis sent down to our "D" League affiliate to get plenty of court time. I rather that than them sitting on the bench in suits every night. Both of them are no doubt part of the future. Ennis is a pure athlete...really impressive what he can do. He just needs to get a lot of PT and get used to the speed of the NBA. Same for Shabazz....I like his prospects of being a solid, and steady PG who will be able to play defense effectively. But they are in need to minutes and right now they are not going to have them.

We will go as far as Dwyane Wade can take us. It's all about D.Wade being able to to get to the rack again. If he can't....then yeah...we are in big trouble. Bosh must also get aggressive and go to the hole much more than he had been asked too while Lebron was here.

Oh...I have no delusions of that. I just want to see them compete on a night to night basis, but more importantly what would make our season as a Heat fan, would be to face the Cav's in the post season....and knock them out. That would be our championship. God bless Lebron and what he did for us for 4 straight years....but he is not wearing my teams colors anymore.

Good riddance and certainly...not good luck. Ha ha .

It's intersting seeing some of these coaches decisions on playing time early in pre season.

Warriors and Clippers played most of their starters what look liked regular season game minutes.

Bulls limited Rose's minutes and a few of their other normal starters.

Cavs played a lot of guys and limited LeBron's minutes.

Nuggets played a lot of players and limited their starters minutes.

Lakers did the same thing.

Warriors and Clips trying to make an early staement against each other in pre season?

43.5 games seems low for a team that gets Boston and Philly a total of 8 times, with only one of those games being the back-end of a back to back. That doesn't include games against the Knicks, Orlando, Milwaukee, Detroit, or Indiana. If (big IF) they really are the 4th-6th best team in the east, they'll clear that number fairly easily.

They need to give the 10-20 guys in camp plenty of time to figure out who'll be sticking. Running Bryant, Nash, Boozer, Hill lots of minutes at this point in preseason is probably counterproductive for them.

Michael Beasley is leaving the Memphis Grizzlies' camp and joining the Shanghai Sharks in China.

Shocking, thought this might be the year

Time to give up the dream Dajuan. If you wanted to play ball that bad, you'd have played professionally somewhere the past 7 years......

DaJuan Wagner is hoping to return to the NBA.
He scored 100 points in a game during his high school playing days in New Jersey, but has been out of the league since 2006. Wagner is 31 years old. Oct 10 - 10:20 AM

Totally agree. Been perusing some over/unders and listening to podcasts about them, and that one seemed the most off to me. Maybe the books have even less faith in Wade's health than the public. They look like a 46-48 win team to me.

On the Knicks board at ESPN they had a post about J.R. Smith talking about learning the Triangle. Several hundred negative comments followed.

One that stuck out: You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't spit in the wind. And you never use the word 'learning' and J.R. Smith in the same sentence.

Took a picture outside staples with the chick Hearn statue. Was looking forward to getting a pic with the magic statue but it was wearing a Kings jersey.

Thunder have announced Kevin Durant has been diagnosed with a Jones fracture; expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
If diagnosed early enough, not a big deal. Surgery can fix the problem, back on the court in 8 weeks, back to his old self in 10-12 weeks at the most. Elton Brand had the same injury in college, got it diagnosed early, had the surgery, didn't affect him long-term. And that was more than 15 years ago, so the skill of the medical procedure has improved since then.

NBA TV did an Open Court special on which 10 players should be added to the 50 greatest list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOEimrfJuaY Their final list (the first 6 were considered locks):

Duncan

LeBron

Kobe

Garnett

Iverson

Nowitzki

Dominique Wilkins

Bob McAdoo

Durant

Wade

Not surprisingly, their criteria was all over the place and inconsistently applied. But I didn't expect to see the disrespect of Wade, who barely got in and some actually were placing behind players like Webber, McGrady, Penny Hardaway, and Reggie Miller. I don't see how Wade is behind Iverson, let alone those other guys. They also dismissed Nash too easily; I'd probably find a place for him in the back 5 of this list.

Personal biases played into it (Isiah Thomas dissing Pippen, Webber trying to get his name in over Dirk/KG, etc). But for a grown man, Shaq's level of pettiness is amazing. He comes across as such a bitter child, holding grudges against Wade, Nash, and Howard.

WTF?

yeah, they should be reducing stoppages in play, not the length of the game.
Well they are trying to reduce the total minutes players have to play throughout the year. This would essentially shave 7 games worth of minutes off the season. I don't think it's ideal, but at least they're willing to experiment since the owners don't want to give up the 82 game dates.

Less product to the consumer, same cash to the owners.

The NBA, its fantastic!

Save us from ourselves because our coaches are too dumb to restrict minutes?

Seems unlikely this would significantly affect the minutes played by the starters. This just means less time for bench units.

:goodposting:

This won't affect the guys that are playing the majority of the minutes, it will just cut into the time the 8th and 9th guys off the bench get. Doesn't make any sense.

I think it's more, "let's see if a shorter game let's coaches manage minutes better without having to sit stars after patrons have shelled out $250 dollars for good seats"

The argument that Pop and others use is the want to restrict minutes played, so if there are less minutes to be played, maybe they'll actually play everyone in every game. I'm too am dubious since I think it's more a total travel grind thing, but it would give coaches the ability to play certain stars less. I think eventually they'll get down to the FIBA 4 ten-minute quarters structure, but that will take some time.

Plus as kev noted, this would have the effect of making the best players even more important as they'd be able to play much more of the game (ie they're leverage would go up) and I wouldn't be shocked if this was a precursor to increasing the max deal that guys like LeBron want. You can pay the stars more if the 10th-15th guys are all minimum guys instead of million dollar guys.

Surprised that group hasn't heard of Jason Kidd or Gary Payton.
