*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

I really thought the Mavs were gonna get Faried for a second, and then I hoped for MarShon, and then Hamilton fell and I was happy.

This trade looks kind of stupid to me. Not sure what it does - I thought Hamilton could be a nice rotation player, but now we've got nothing...

Jimmy Butler's biological parents are probably THRILLED they kicked their lottery ticket out of the house at age 13.
Dad was long gone by then, of course.
JImmy's a great kid with a strong work ethic. He's an awesome team first player. You will watch him an entire game wondering if he'll get more involved in the offense and then wonder at the end of the game how he managed to get 20 points with all those rebounds. Not flashy at all on the court but will just takes what is given to him. Real pleasure watching him play the past three years. Bulls fans will like this kid. Knows his role and does whatever is necessary for the team.

He will fit right in then.Coming into the draft, there was very little chance the Bulls would find the SG they need. However, I have fairly excited about Mirotic and Butler. Mirotic might not be in Chicago for a few years but he sounds like a very good weapon to have when he comes over with the ability to contribute on both ends. And Butler could be a solid rotation wing if not better.

Cliff, how do you feel about having another soft PF/C?
:wall:I obviously know nothing about him but in his montage I didn't see a single rebound, blocked shot or them saying he can do either. Would have much rather seen a host of other guys but I can't rip him without ever having seen him play.

raptors boards seem to be in an uproar over it - but I think its a good pick. He seems to at least have potential to develop into a legit center. One player wont help them now, and with him being a year or two away from playing helps the raps shoot for another high lotto pick next year.
Raptor board are horrible to read to begin with but I can't imagine them know. I agree that it doesn't matter if he plays this year or is even productive for a couple but they can't have another bust.Colangelo took a great shot at Bosh in his press conference. 'We could have won a few more games last year but we could have also been stuck with the deadweight of a $126M contract.' And then he compared this Lithuanian fella to Big Z

A rookie isn't making the rotation next year. Rudy is insurance if JJ leaves via free agency.

While I LOVE that the rockets got Montiejunas (NBADraft.net had him as one of the four highest players in the pool) I'm still shuked over the Morris pick. The Rockets are actually strong at PF with Scola and Patterson developing. Toss in Jordan HIll and Chuck Hayes (who should be a PF and not a C) and I'm a little confused as to why they didn't take Vucevic if they knew they were after Montiejunas all along. Morris seems to me to be a fairly pedestrian PF - he has one shot (turnaround jumper from the block) that will be easily defended by 1/3 of the league and he doesn't look like a strong rebounder (which is their biggest area of need by FAR).

As a note, Houston now has 3 of the top 8 (and 4 of the top 11) picks from the 2009 draft.

My thoughts as well.

I have been busy with babies and family and getting drunk.

ESPN and nba.com are cluster####s. So isnt hoopshype.

Can someone run down quickly the trades that went down?

Mavs' trade with Portland, sources say, also includes the No. 57 pick going to Blazers for rights to 2007 draftee Petteri Koponen
Koponen should be happy, he was claiming that the Blazers were effectively blackballing him from the NBA.
Yep - great for Kopenen. He'll get a shot now. Avoided him in our NBA thing here because of his situation.
Same here, I almost made him my 13th round pick, but read up on his situation a little more and it sounded like Portland had no desire to bring him over.

So what you expertz think of the Lakers first two picks? I don't wanna go into the Lakers thread and see the bandwagon/out-of-towners yapping about how great they are. TIA, will answer yours!

Freak athlete? He seems coordinated and runs well, but he was only getting about a foot an a half off the ground. Runs around and jumps and looks kind of like Durant with pasty skin.
DRINK!
I was just repeating something that either Bilas or JVG said, dude looks like a very pedestrian athlete who is very long.
Sorry - saw the 'drink' words.

Read through Chad Ford's tweets. That's probably the best you can do until tomorrow.
#### thats a lot of work.I see MN took Williams. They keep him? What deals they make?
Yes, they kept him.Drafted the Montiejunas and traded he and Flynn to the Rockets for Brad Miller (likely retiring), a protected 1st rounder, and another foreign prospect. Then they traded that prospect to the Bulls for a pick that ended up as a PG, IIRC.ETA - us Houston fans are over the moon to get Montiejunas (or whatever his name is). 7 footer with quickness and shooting range. Comparisons to Bargiani (low side) and THE GERMAN (you know who I'm talkin bout) on the high side.

That pick was traded to Miami for the 1st pick of the 2nd round (Bojan Bogdanovic).

OK, thanks.

Rockets added two power forwards as well. I actually would look to move Scola and maybe even Martin. They have some nice pieces under 25 in Lowry, Patterson, Budinger, Hill, Lee, Williams, Morris, and Montiejunas. Flynn and Thabeet are young as well. Not that they'll ever win a title with that crew, but they are suffering from the Houston Astros problem - young guys needing reps and old guys wasting their primes without much in the middle.
