Assuming LeBron goes to the Heat then he and Wade are the best players. Bosh is a far 3rd. How great would any team be if they lost their best 2 players? Maybe the Celts before the Perk injury would still be a playoff team. I'm not sure any other team in the league would be good enough to even make the playoffs if you dump their 2 best. The Lakers are pretty deep. Would they be a playoff team without Kobe and Gasol I doubt it?
Okay, I'll just come out and say it. I think that if LeBron was most interested in winning titles, there is only one choice he has to make: the Chicago Bulls. That is a good team, with a good collection of players around their stars. You put an LBJ on that team, then LBJ (or Rose...or ???) shreds an ACL mid-season, that's a team that can go deep into the playoffs regardless. Miami doesn't have that. The Knicks and Nets don't have that. The Cavaliers certainly will no longer have that. The Clippers? Sadly enough, they are probably closer to having that than the Knicks and Nets, but they have the "Al Davis" of the NBA as an owner. Those three (LBJ, Wade, Bosh) will be fantastic in Miami, if they all stay healthy and accept their bit of "reduced" roles. If you want to hang lots of banners though, you go to Chicago. Jordan's shadow or not.And FWIW, I don't have a dog in this fight, as my team is the lowly Timberwolves. :boxing:
This is similar to what Bill Simmons said but I have a hard time buying it. Assuming LeBron goes to neither team, which team will be better this season, Miami or Chicago? It seems like a close call to me.

Wouldn't you think that if the Cavs believed this at all they would be moving heaven and earth to get some talent on board by 8pm? Wouldn't they be selling the farm for Mike MIller or Michael Redd or Gilbert Arenas or Trevor Ariza or Al Jefferson or SOMEONE to make him stay? If James leaves, the losses in $$ are going to be so big that I think if Gilbery and Co. honestly thought he was going to Miami, they would be throwing the kitchen sink at the problem for the next 7 hours hoping to make him stay.

Understandable. I just don't think any team with major injuries to stars is likely to win. I'm not sure the last time it happened. LA has been healthy the last 2 years, Boston the year before, SA has always been healthy as has Detroit in their titles. Same with Miami in that one. The Bulls are no exception, Boston is a dangerous team if healthy. They still haven't lost a playoff series with that starting 5 together. Orlando is another dangerous team when healthy. Not to mention you'd have to get by a healthy LA probably. The Bulls aren't a title contender if they get LeBron and he's hurt in the playoffs. They might be with LeBron if Rose or someone else gets hurt but no shot with LeBron out.

So, how do you view Kobe's 3 titles with Shaq?
Kobe is one of the all time great shooting guards and Shaq is one of the all time great centers. They've both won a bunch of titles and have had great careers. How do you view it? *cringe*
I think many see the situation very differently from you or I. I see those titles for what they were. Shaq was the most dominant player in the league. Kobe was an elite performer all three regular seasons. However, his performance in the 2000 playoffs was no where near elite. In 2001 and 2002, he was an elite playoff performer on the level of alpha title winning players. So I think out of his 5 titles, Kobe was an elite player for 4 of them but was a much lesser player during the first title run so he deserves much less credit for that title.

Also, I am not saying it will hurt LeBron's legacy in my eyes. I just feel that perception will split into two main camps just like for Kobe. Many believe that Kobe didn't earn a title until the recent repeat while many others believe he deserves elite credit for all 5. Both are incorrect. Many will believe that James used Wade to win titles he couldn't win without him while many others will see the best player in the league merely getting the help that any player needs to win a title. Both will probably be incorrect. We have yet to see what happens. If Wade outplays LeBron on the same team and Wade wins multiple MVP's in the regular season and the finals is a much different story then if LeBron is collecting MVP's. Of course, Durant might be winning all the regular season awards while the Heat fail to win titles.

You don't see how LeBron winning titles with Wade and the Heat would add less to his legacy in many eyes than winning a title without a Wade when many people discredit Kobe for the same reason?
Sure, but those people are wrong and they suck.
I think they are plenty of those people though. Most do not evaluate situations at all. It is easy to look at Kobe's numbers and accolades in 2001 and 2002 and even easier if you watched the playoffs those years to be convinced that Kobe was playing at a level only a couple NBA players could match. It is also easy to see he didn't perform well at all in the 2000 playoffs and could have been replaced by a fair number of players on that team who could have won a title with Shaq. But instead, people just see titles and names and judge with their own biases.

I'd love to see LeBron go to Miami. It would be tough for my Lakers, as I think that would be the team Los Angeles would meet in the Finals, and they would certainly be formidable with that trio, if not favorites.

But I really like the idea of the "superteam". It's always exciting. Usually superteams feature 1 or two players past their prime, like the Celtics from 2 years ago, or the Lakers when they added Karl Malone and Gary Payton. This would be the first superteam I can think of in which each star is in his prime or approaching his prime. It would be great for the NBA- IF it happens.
Earl Monroe joined Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Dave DeBuscherre, and Bill Bradley. All five were still at or very close to their prime, and all are HOFers. Give me that "superteam" over LeBron, DWade, the suddenly overrated Bosh, and the other two stiffs that will fill out Miami's starting five.
Well, that was before I started watching basketball, so I can't comment intelligently. But in the present day, these are 3 awfully big names. As far as LeBron's "brand" being hurt by playing on Wade's team, stuff and nonsense, IMO. The Lakers were Kareem's team until Magic was drafted, and then they became Magic's team. And in the end, who cares who's team it is, so long as they win rings?
Why start now?

The Lakers starting center has been a virtual non-factor in the playoffs the last couple of years due to knee injuries, and their shooting guard played with a broken index finger on his shooting hand this year. The Lakers have been far from "healthy" the last two years.

If he favors fame and money potential, he joins the Knicks. Loyalty, comfort, and financial security keeps him in Cleveland. If he wants to win titles, he is either a Bull or joins the Heat Thursday night. At this point, I think his choice tells us a lot about what he most cherishes.
:goodposting: My money is that for LeBron, its all about faME

Travis Outlaw signs with the Nets - 5 years $35 million. Seems like a bad decision by the Nets to me.
that's just throwing money away.
Come on, where else are you going to find a small forward capable of putting up 9 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 43% from the field?
you know that this signing says to me?"hey, look, i can write a $35m check and it has absolutely no consequences!"

outlaw fills a void, i guess. I'd rather start courtney lee at SG and have terence starting at SF. $7mm a year for a bench player? oof.

the lockout can't happen soon enough if checks like this continue to be cut....

fwiw, Numerous sources, including Windhorst, in the area here have said they have been trying very hard to get Paul the past day or two. But so have the Nets and other teams. I'm not sure any of the players you've mentioned really tilt the scales. I'm sure they wouldn't be tough to land if Lebron signed.

Extra police on duty at LeBron James' house tonight11:40 AMLeBron James decides to leave Cleveland tonight he may be burned in effigy, but his house should be fine.Police in Bath Township near Cleveland will have patrols watching the property, and James has paid for off-duty officers to be on the property, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer."Whether we get loads of happy fans or unhappy fans showing up outside his home, we will be prepared to keep the traffic moving," Police Chief Michael McNeeley said. "There has been a lot of traffic in the area lately, but there have been no problems."McNeeley said James has always had an officer there, inside a gate, since moving in two years ago, and has increased the security in the past week. The Bath Township police force has only 20 officers, but McNeeley said he can call for more help from other nearby departments, if needed."We're hoping we won't need it," he said. He added that just because his officers are around LeBron a lot doesn't mean they have any idea what will happen tonight."That's just not the case," the chief said. "He is very tight-lipped about his plans."

Yeah, Outlaw doesn't start on that team, does he?

Lebron has always been more Magic than Jordan (and that isnt a bad thing). Wade's style always reminded me of young MJ . . . I think this combo is going to be sick. Bosh will do his thing down low and provide rebounding and post scoring. They need a 3 point shooter and another body in the lane on defense. They got some decent guys in the second round, who normally we wouldnt be talking about, but playing specific roles around James, Wade, and Bosh, could really work out.

Good stuff. Particularly agree with the following:
I liked Simmons calling out Bosh as not a superstar. The guy won in high school but hasn't done much to contribute to a winning program since. If he was a superstar, he could have willed more W's.Disagree that joining the Bulls vs. Heat is such a black & white decision on his legacy. In both cases, he should be surrounded by a better cast that should lead to championships. The difference is that in Chicago he appears to be #1 guy and in Miami he appears to be #2.

If he joins Miami, I hope the outcome is more like the 03-04 Lakers and less like the 2001-02 Red Wings.

Why is is assumed that James going to Miami makes him the "#2" guy? Is it because Wade is more of a scorer and James is more of a distributor? If so, then wouldn't that have made Magic the #2 to Kareem's #1? I realize it is "wade's team!" right now, but keep in mind that it is Lebron who has a TV special tonight and Wade has already announced. I would imagine that it won't take long for LBJ to e at the top of marquee.

If you are the #1 scoring option on the Olympic team, I'm pretty sure you will remain the #1 scoring option on the team you have been with for 8 years.

I'm just repeating their perception out there. I certainly don't take it as a given.

The Mavericks have agreed to terms on a six-year, $55 year million deal to re-sign center Brendan Haywood, a source told Yahoo! Sports.

So are we talking about the #1 scoring option or the #1 guy? One is a literal role while the other is a figurartive "leadership" thing. Lots of guys have been a 2nd or 3rd scorer but were "the guy".

Lebron is the best player on any team he plays on. Except maybe if he's on the Lakers.Top scorer is different to me than being the #1 guy. Lebron would definitely distribute more and his scoring average would come down on Miami.

Oh and Wade scored FOUR more points than Lebron in the Olympics....Lebron took 13 more shots.

Edit:

Shots in Olympics: Wade 70, BronBron 83, Kobe 104

Its pretty hard to be "the guy" if you are not the #1 scoring option in crunch time. Especially if you are the newcomer to a team that already has a "guy" with a ring and Finals MVP to show for it.

What are the new odds on where he lands?
according to world sports exchange, Miami is about 65%, Cle about 25% and NY about 20% with everyone else at 0-5%.Those aren't taking out the vig, so they're a little lower than that across the board

I disagree. First off, you're assuming a lot if you think that Wade is pre-ordained as the crunch time guy. I'm not sure there is ANYTHING out there to back that up other then the silly point about the Olymics. Secondly, I think there have been a number of teams where "the guy" was someone other then the scoring leader. Thirdly, James is a much more prolific scorer then Wade over their careers. I don't see any reason to buy this argument that James would be going to Miami to ride Wade's coat-tails. If anything, it would be the other way around if not for Wade having already won a title.

What's silly about it? On a team full of alpha scorers Wade was the most aggressive on the biggest stage in the World. The same thing happened at the All Star Game. Why would he suddenly play differently?Wade's career usage percentage is 32.7%, Lebron's is 31.9%.

He's kicking around - I don't see it working for SA. They need to get younger, not fatter, more brittle and childlike. Are they ever going to get Splitter into camp?

Any possibility that Miami and Cleveland do a sign and trade involving Lebron and Beasley? No idea whether the numbers would work at all.
