*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

Even though that letter seems pretty childish, if I'm a Cleveland fan I'm at least taking some solace in knowing I've got an owner that truly cares.
I liked it. I'd still never play in Cleveland if I was a player, but that bumped them up a notch. His hearts in the organization. I could have imagined Cuban doing the same if Dirk left. I wish Dolan was this fiery.

Wolves-Heat deal, sources say, calls for 'Sota to absorb Beasley into cap space and send its 2011 second-round pick to Miami to seal deal
A second rounder for Beasley? Sign me up. He's been a head case and a bust so far...but that's a good bet to take. The #2 overall pick from a couple years ago in exchange for a 2nd rounder who probably would have been parked over in Europe until 2013-2014, if he ever played a game in the NBA.

Beasley just traded to Minnesota
and it looks like the rumors of the Heat offering Mike Miller 5 years 33 million are realCrunch Time lineup ofChalmersWadeMillerLeBronBoshis very nice.
Really? Lebron playing Center?
Augh, you newbies. Bosh plays the 5, LeBron plays the 4. Duh.
This isn't 10 years ago. There are real centers in the league now. Bosh is gonna have trouble against them. I didn't get to see his team much as I don't watch bad teams. Did he play C in Toronto?

There's definitely nothing wrong with what LeBron, Wade and Bosh did. It was a great idea on their parts. What is funny about the whole thing is that the NBA's salary cap is so convoluted and full of holes that Miami was able to assemble a team above and beyond what probably could've been done in a free market. Even the Yankees have to be jealous right now.
Without question. In a totally free market, more than 6 teams would have been in a position to bid on Lebron, Wade, and Bosh, at least based on the current salary levels. Of course since Lebron would also probably command two or three times what the current Max salary is, you'd really only have four or five (maybe six) teams with the resources to realistically pursue him. Miami wouldn't have been able to afford all three salaries though, that's for certain.

I dont understand how Miller can get that kind of contract from the Heat. With the Beasley deal, they have nothing to S&T.

I haven't seen this reported anywhere. Where are you hearing this?
Mike Miller is the latest name to be included in the Miami Heat free agent extravaganza. Jeff Goodman is now reporting that the Heat have offered Mike Miller a five year contract worth somewhere between $27-30 million

This trade has me :pickle: At that asking price the Heat GM could have sent Beasley to nearly any team in the league. He probably sent him to a basketball Siberia like the T-Wolves out of spite. And, oh yeah, enjoy that Miami to Minneapolis lifestyle change. :lmao:

The team had to be under the cap, so it limited them to like 5 or 6 teams.

How is this possible? Is Wade playing for free?
In salary cap terms, he essentially will be.The Heat can run their salary total right up to the limit, then re-sign Wade last and because of the Bird exception they can go over the cap.As long as LeBron + Bosh + Miller + whatever other scrubs they have left < 58 million, they can then proceed to pay Wade whatever they want.

Nope

Beasley only making 5 Mil a year while bums like Jared Jeffries make 8M.

Why would no team want a #2 pick who is very talented? Why wouldnt Clippers want him?

There are like 4 teams that will have about 15M in extra cap space come opening day

:bag: Aaaah.... That makes it slightly less humorous. Still, I'm assuming the Heat could have picked a suitor Beasley would find more favorable.

Wonder if the Kings had a chance at him.

Blame the Knicks on JJ contract amount but he has one year left which makes him a valuable player to trade.

Wolves wanted him...since before the draft they've been linked to him in several rumored deals. :lmao: Love the comment about sending him to Siberia too. :pickle: MSP is the 13th/14th largest metro in the country...2.5 million people? It's in the 90s today and all the beautiful 20-something women in Minneapolis are out walking/jogging around Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun in some skimpy outfits...then will head to one of about 10,000 coffee shops and restaurants to hang out before heading out to the largest arts, theatre and music scene in the United States outside of New York. But yeah...if you had a repeat of the 1908 Tunguska event happen over MSP, maybe a couple deer, a few gophers, and several thousand trees and might be killed in the process.

This Bill Livingston guy on ESPNews is cracking me up right now. Sour grapes all around.
Sour Grapes would be much more palatable than reading his column everyday in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
I wouldnt really call it sour grapes. Lebron kicked Cleveland in the nuts and then pissed all over them.I heard so many "pundits" say over the last few days that he was going back to Cleveland because there is no way he could go through this whole farce tonight if he was just going to NUKE Cleveland. Guess they were wrong.

And yet it is still Minnesota. In 4 months it'll be snowing and people will be hibernating, while Lebron will be crushing Latina butt night after night in a downtown oceanside condo. :lmao:

I love Minnepolis, but I'm a middle class white guy. Here's a hint -- millionaire young black men don't want to live in a freezing cold place where there aren't too many other black people. That's just the way it is. That's why Minny, Milwaukee, and Cleveland never sign any big name free agents. And I meant the T-Wolves organization is a basketball Siberia, not Minneapolis is a Siberia. It's not like the TWolves find themselves in good times. Wait, when were their good times?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Me? The last time I got off the plane in Miami and got out of the airport, I felt like I had asthma trying to breathe. The air was HOT and the humidity was insane. Got to the hotel, unpacked, then headed out into the Atlantic to cool off. Or so I thought. The water was so warm in the ocean that it wasn't really refreshing at all. Then I went out with a few buddies to check out the scene and grab a bite to eat. Let's just say I was happy to not appear on the evening news by the time I got back to the hotel.South Beach was awesome! As for the rest of Miami? I told my wife I never want to go back to that ####-hole ever again in my life. Uncomfortable to breathe, dirty, expensive, and not particularly safe (at least in my own experience). It was my 3rd or 4th visit to Miami over the past 20 years, and I pray to God it will be my last.

Agreed. You couldn't pay me to live in Minnesota. Winters are barbaric, people are slow, pace of life is unbearable, scenery is dull, and women are beyond mediocre. Sure things are cheap but when everything else sucks you've got no choice but to give things away. I know some people hate Miami, no doubt about it. But run a poll and South Florida is a ;) over Minnesota all day everyday.

datonn, no offense, but when listing desirable places to live in the US, Miami is pretty high up on the list. Minny doesn't make the list. :towelwave:

I'll add for w/e reason, and I've realized this while live in the midwest, people in that region are incredibly uncomfortable around diversity. Not just black people but hispanic's, indians, middle easterners...they all make midwesterners uncomfortable. They immediately confuse ethnic neighborhoods for unsafe neighborhoods.

True 'dat. The neighborhoods where most of the millionaire athletes reside (usually in the SW Metro) are, in the immortal words of a SNL skit....ahem: "They're extremely white, they're extremely white....they walk with their buttocks extremely tight!" :towelwave: The Wolves have been snake bitten ever since they "scored" Christian Laettner as the worst team in the NBA when Shaq and 'Zo went right ahead of them. They had some decent times, but then after Malik Sealy was killed after attending another player's birthday party, that left a deep scar on the franchise. Then the Wolves almost got to the promised land with KG, Sprewell and Cassell, but just weren't quite good enough. It's been HARD to be a Wolves fan all these years! However, I still remember seeing Jordan dropping 45 on my expansion team in Metrodome back on 11/8/89 (while I was in college). There's been a few good memories along the way, mixed in with all the Joe Smith's, Kevin McFail's, and Felton Spencer's/Luc Longley's/Pooh Richardson's/J.R. Rider's.

The Joe Smith under the table deal was not a proud moment. Joe Smith for crying out loud.
