Color me unimpressed. I think the Celtics finishes the year under .500.
The worst thing that happened to them is that win streak. If you looked ahead at their schedule (after that win streak), you knew this was coming.Next 9 of 10 on the road. They'll be under .500 3 weeks from now.
Worst thing as in you think they should deal someone? Or just worst thing as in a month from now their fans are gonna look silly for having gotten so excited?
Both. I posted a few pages back that their win streak will have set the franchise back a year or two for their inevitable rebuild. Without it, it would have been easy to have a firesale. Not so much now when they're in 7th place.

Sources tell the Chicago Tribune that the Bulls offer of Carlos Boozer for Andrea Bargnani will stand through the deadline. The full deal, that is reportedly "available whenever" the Raptors want it, would be Boozer and Nate Robinson for Bargnani and John Lucas III. It would take the Bulls under the luxury cap threshold, somewhere they might want to be now that Derrick Rose isn't returning to save them anytime soon. It's unclear if the Raptors have any real interest in Boozer, a 31-year-old defensive liability that is owed $15.3 million next season and $16.8 million in 2014/15. Defensive workhorse Amir Johnson might be a better fit playing next to gunners Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan.Related: Carlos Boozer
As Bulls fan, not sure what I'd do. I don't believe they could amnesty Bargnani (since he didn't originally sign with the Bulls). I also don't see another amnesty candidate on their roster outside Boozer. As much as I'd like to see what Bargnani could do here, I just don't know where he fits in with a presumed Deng-Gibson-Noah frontcourt.
They can't amnesty him. It would be awesome if they could work out a deal to amnesty both of them and then trade them. Does Deng play much PF in Chicago? Having Noah and Gibson around Bargnani would help hide some of his, to put it nicely, shortcomings on the defensive end. Man D, Bargnani is fine. It is helping and rebounding where he either gets lost or just doesn't.

This Simmons Ewing theory stuff with the Celtics is getting a little silly. Here's what they've done since they lost Rondo:

-Beat the Heat at home. Impressive, sure. But the Wizards beat the Heat at home without Wall, and they didn't need overtime to do it.

-Beat the Kings and Magic at home. Are you telling me a team with only two HOFers in the starting lineup was able to find a way to take down those star-studded teams in Boston? Amazing. BTW, those two mighty foes are a combined 11-42 on the road

-Beat the Chris Paul-less Clippers at home. Paul > Rondo, and they were still at home.

-Narrow win at Toronto.

-Another home win over the Lakers.

-Crazy overtime win over the Nuggets. Maybe the only game in this run where they weren't favored.

-Loss on the road to the Bobcats, bringing their Rondo-less road record to 1-1. But hey, when you have to run the Toronto/Charlotte gauntlet, 1-1 is the best you can possibly hope for.

-Two point home win over Chicago (also without their star PG) in the worst NBA game of the season. I think both teams may have left for the ASB at halftime.

Color me unimpressed. I think the Celtics finishes the year under .500.
It's amazing that Simmons interviews really smart basketball people like Lowe and Voulgaris, and then falls back into his tired old shtick when left to his own devices.A lot of times "The Ewing Theory" seems to be either a) Player X is overrated or a big name that's over the hill, b) Player X is replaced by someone or someones who is very good, or c) some combination thereof.

Deng has played spot minutes at 4 and has done reasonably well. I don't think Bargnani would get many minutes in a playoff rotation for the Bulls. Anyway, I don't think this trade is going to happen. The Raptors aren't owned by Dolan.

He tries to entertain as much as inform. I find his shtick tiresome, but he's been on this Ewing Theory thing for years, and some, if not most of his fans must eat that #### up. Can't blame him for riding it for all it's worth. It did land him a pretty sweet gig.

This is nuts. Lebron with 33 and hovering around 60%. He probably will finish below that tonight, but still. Heat and lebron just destroy when they feel like it.
He's on an unreal run right now. For the month of Feb: Averaging 31 PPG....on 66% shooting ...on 16 shots per game. For perspective on how efficient Lebron's been this month, the last time Kobe's scored 30 or more points on 16 shots or less in a SINGLE GAME: December 28, 2008 vs. GSW.
Perhaps, but I'd trade him in a heartbeat for Kyrie Irving. :)

This years draft class isn't an inspiring one, and I'm not sure anyone was offering anything in trade that would have allowed them to reload with younger championship caliber talent anyway. If I'm a celtics fan I'm not in a hurry for them to blow it up - might as well let the fans enjoy some competitive basketball before the inevitable rebuild cycle kicks in.

I think the best offer they've gotten is Bledoe and Butler for Pierce and Garnett. And Bledsoe would either play behind Rondo or be a trade piece so I'm not sure he's worth that much. Especially with only one year left on his contract. Butler is of course a throwaway. No one is offering big value for older guys even if they might put your team in real contention. And if nothing else I think Garnett is still really good if you can limit his minutes and keep him rested. Put him on the Clippers and they're in the conversation with SA and OKC imo.

BTW, I absolutely think the Celtics should blow it up right now. This team isn't going to get to the Finals, much less win a title. It was worth it to get Garnett and Allen, but now it's time to get what they can and start the rebuilding.

Worst part of him today was writing "well if we beat the Pacers and Lebron tweaks a hammy..."It ain't happening dude. Durant going to die too?

@OldHossRadbourn: An Oral History of the Ewing Theory, Grantland's crowning achievement, now in this attractive leather-bound volume. :lmao:

Tyler Zeller is a rising star?
He's 7' tall. He should have a 5-10 year career without question, which is saying something.
But when I think of Rising Stars, I think of future all stars. I guess to fill out a roster of 10 guys from both rookies and sophomores, you are going to take a few guys who aren't actually rising stars. No disrespect to him, but I just wouldn't put him in the same category of like a Cousins or Monroe. But then again, Splitter made the game last year as well. And it also helps when you can play on a bad team and continue to put up decent numbers.

Sources tell Yahoo Sports that the Celtics and Clippers have been discussing a Kevin Garnett trade. The deal being bandied about "regularly" is Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan for Garnett. Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro wants the team to pull the trigger, but the front office is reportedly "totally against the move." Obviously, the front office has the final say on personnel decisions and they are only willing to move the likes of Caron Butler, Willie Green and Ronny Turiaf. It's also worth noting that Garnett has a no-trade clause, although he does own a home in Malibu and has a close relationship with Chauncey Billups.
If I'm Clippers, no way I do this. That team suddenly looks much much older with the move with a lot less depth and leeway. They've got Bledsoe under control another season.Anything short of a title this year and Del Negro would be toast.

Celtics would be fools not to do that deal.

KG would put them up there with the Thunder and Heat, IMO.I'd do it. Bledsoe is a backup who is walking after next year for sure. Jordan is a role player.

Agreed. I don't think the decision lies with them though. It'd also allow them to deal Rondo (which will probably happen regardless), but it'd give them a nice young alternative PG with Bledsoe. And Jordan is a better big than what they've got currently outside Garnett.Isaiah Thomas is a nice story, but I see Rondo ending up in Sacramento. I think they've got the young part(s) that'd entice Ainge as well. Rondo for Aaron Brooks straight up should do the trick..

I can't wait for Howard to sign elsewhere leaving the lakers unable to sign anybody or have tradable assets left.
What Lakers do you know of who have turned down max extensions to take less money and years and sign elsewhere?
Lebron turned those down to go somewhere he wanted. Dwight looks like he's about to kill himself out there.
We all know Laker dollars are more valuable than any dollars any team has to offer. No one turns down more Laker dollars to play for less dollars elsewhere. It just doesn't happen. Getting past this stupid "Howard may walk" nonsense, LeBron will have an interesting decision to make in 2014 when the Lakers offer him the max.

No way, the players and fans love Vinny. If the Clips get to the WCF and have a good series, he's still safe.

Lebron wants to win. He makes plenty of money. He's not going to sign with a team that has no pieces worth a damn, which is what the Lakers are when Howard leaves.

Lakers will have no one on the books in 2014 except Nash and Howard. Will be very tempting for LeBron.

Very few players do this period. To go to the Lakers, or anywhere else. For a team whose dollars are so valuable, the Lakers never seem to sign any big time free agents. Nash, and probably O'Neal before that. You're the only guy that believes this ridiculous schtick that it's some privilege to play for the Lakers and players are willing to overlook paydays and winning to play for them.

1. You are outside your mind if you think Kobe is retiring in two years.2. Why would Lebron go to la to be just another laker?

You mean Nash. I'm sure Lebron is excited to play with a rotting Nash. Maybe if some team signs a 50 year old Jordan he'll be excited to play for them too.

1) Lakers are over the cap every year, so they never have any opportunities to "sign big time FA's". Everyone with a brain knows this.2) LOL @ players having to "overlook winning" to play for a franchise that has been in 7 of the last 13 NBA Finals.3) ur dumb.

So you're basing this on no evidence whatsoever. Got it. Typical idiot logic from our man Tommy. What happened with Phil Jackson and Shaq is irrelevant. Maybe you didn't notice, because you don't seem very observant, but the Lakers are on the verge of missing the playoffs. No free agent is going to look at what happened in 2000 to support the notion they're likely to win a title with the current ancient, crappy team.
