*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

Scola is playing like a man possessed. I don't know if you guys watched the World Championships but this doesn't surprise me. Dude is one of the most underrated players in the NBA. Yes, more underrated than Aaron Brooks.
A point guard that played 36 minutes last year, shot 43% and averaged 5.3 apg is anything but underrated. You do realize the Rockets are 0-2 don't you?

I disagree

Cousins put up 14-8-5 in his debut, including some clutch offense down the stretch in the 4th quarter. Also had 5 fouls, and he'll need to get that under control. Wesley Johnson had a pretty impressive debut as well (13-4-1 and a monster dunk in the second quarter).

It is going to be a loooong season in Toronto.

Nice stat line for Reggie Evans. 0 points, 16 rebounds. Its been done 20 times before last night (0 points and 16+ rebs) and 12 of those were by Rodman.

The defense was awful last night. I've now stayed up past midnight two nights in a row watching them lose. Martin didn't look as effecrtive last night. Oh, and Kevin Durant is really good.

I haven't watched him this year, so maybe he's changed, but I don't see himk helping the team as a starter. He dribbles around looking to break down the defense and get his shot, often times running the shot clock down, and as a last resort passes the ball. This can work if you're Gilbert Arenas or Allen Iverson and you are hands down the best player on the team, but when you are Brooks and Martin, Scola and Yao are all more efficent scoring options, you gotta look to pass first and score 2nd.

Martin was asked to carry more of the load last year with the injuries. He was no longer splitting time at PG. He had a career highs across the board except in FT%. His APER was in line with the other starters for Houston too. He did the best he could on a flawed team. He should be better with the team healthy and balanced.

Pulling for the Cavs this year Wade - would love nothing more than to see you guys win 50 and go to the playoffs.
 50 would be nice, but 38-42 is probably more realistic

For all the talk about the Warriors improving their defense, they surely did suck. After 1 game at PF it's pretty apparent David Lee still sucks on defense. I know Scola is very good in the block and fairly underrated, but Lee let him get any shot he wanted. I love everything else about Lee's game, but his defense is craptacular.

I also don't like the small ball tendencies of Smart. Hopefully once Lou Amoundson and Udoh come back there's no reason to have Lee at C. I know Biedrins was in trouble, but I'd rather have Jeff Adrien or Gadzuric in there.

Scola did basically the same thing against Gasol the night before. Looks like he's taken his game to another level following on from his WC performance. I'm not saying Lee is a good defender, but it seems like Scola is going to be a headache for anyone who's guarding him this year.

Also, I don't know how many caught the Clips/Blazers game, but Blake Griffin looked unbelievably good. Seemed like he was ready to jump clear over the rim a couple of times, and was twice as quick as anyone trying to box him out.

This. He had 8 offensive boards, IIRC, most in the first half.

And of course the Clips still lost - some things never change. Regardless, you out of towners should catch whatever Clips games you can to see Griffin play (if you didn't know to do so already) - he truly looks better than advertised.

:hey:
Petro is a passable 3rd center, he rebounds and has good enough hands that he deserves a roster spot, but I laughed my ### off when I saw the contract he got. Nuggets replaced him with Shelden Williams for a quarter the price and he does everything Petro does, only better.

Several sources said the atmosphere and crowd was fantastic....even the best ever. Hard to believe...the latter part that is.

Caught some of this game on League Pass and it was Biedrins not Lee who was guarding Scola. Lee was covering Hayes who scored 16 but in fairness to Lee he had to rotate over to Aaron Brooks who beat his man and then made easy pass to Hayes.

Thought he looked unreal in the 1st half, but missed the 2nd half and it looks like he disappeared. What happened?

Took a late flyer on Dorell Wright in my fantasy league and was pleased with his numbers and run last night. How does he fit in there? I've heard some suggest Williams should be starting over Wright, but Wright got all the burn last night.Your thoughts?

3rd quarter turned into the Eric Gordon show + turnovers. By the time Griffin came back in with 8 minutes left the Clips were down 8, and he got about 4 attempts from that point forward. Seemed like half his attempts were on rebounds - I don't know how DelNegro drew up the offensive game plan, but it didn't seem to purposefully feature Griffin enough. He ended up with more assists than Baron Davis. What a horrible contract that is.

Wade, you know what sucks? Going to pdcavsinsider and seeing Mary Schmitt Boyer. Big shoes to fill there lady. Too many posts during the game last night. Uggggh, what a waste of space. I'm happy for Windy that he got a dream gig...but he was a top 3 thing I listed in here that the Cavs had left in July. One of the other top 3 things....Joe Tait. Hopefully he has a good recovery. I know the Cavs will honor him properly when the time is right...(it was gonna be his farewell tour this season, his 39th, for those that didn't know). This all blows. One pre-game nugget:

Boston coach Doc Rivers said #Cavs fans were shaking his hand today and saying ''thanks'' after Celtics beat Heat last night

yeah, Boyer is lights years behind Windhorst as far as beat writing goes

Actually the 3rd quarter was the Eric Gordon show with a fast paced temp that surged the Clippers into the lead. Griffin in there too in the 3rd. Came out with a minute left in the quarter. He was important in a lot of the blazer turnovers and rebounds, just didn't show up on the stat sheet a lot. In the 4th quarter the Clips moved to a half court offense and were just horrible. When Griffin came back with 8 minutes left the Clips had their biggest lead (4 points). The biggest problem was the game plan / execution in the last 8 minutes. Griffin was in the game but it wasn't necessary his fault. More of a coaching problem I think.

You're right, I got the score wrong. Like I said, DelNegro's gameplan didn't seem to involve getting Griffin the ball. Maybe he didn't want to put pressure on him right away or something?

I'd be starting to get tired of this guy if I was a Nuggets fan.

Carmelo Anthony ...

Management wants "to sit down and talk, but my thing is it's way beyond this year," he told Yahoo! Sports. "It ain't got nothing to do with the new GM [Masai Ujiri], Josh [Kroenke, team president], the players. For me, I feel it's a time for change.

"If I do nothing now, I'm never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay."

"But as far as the money that's on the table, I understand the money that's on the table. I understand it's a lot," he said on "The Scott Van Pelt Show". "But it's more than the money. Right now I'm here, I'm with the Nuggets."
I know as a Laker fan I got tired of Kobe's captain bitter act back in the summer of '07. Things turned out pretty well subsequently - maybe the Nuggets can call up the Griz for a trade for Gasol too.

Not that Marc Gasol would change Melo's mind, but that kind of player is exactly what the Nuggets need. Gasol is a decent defender on the block and can play offensively on the block and hit short jumper, and would allow Nene to play pf. On top of all that, I don't expect the Grizz to pay him the 10 mil/yr he's going to want, so I see them likely trading him this season if Thabeet shows he can ball at all. A lineup of Billups, Afflalo, Happy Melo, Nene, Gasol with a bench of Lawson, JR, Harrington, Birdman and KMart would challange the Lakers for the west title.I wish that could really happen.

On a good note for the Nuggets and their fans, Melo played like #### during the first half and the Nuggets were still up by 20. Ewing theory?

Yeah, I wasn't kidding about Marc - he's a good 5 (not great, above average). Him Nene and Anthony across the front would be rough to deal with. I don't know what Den would be able to deal to get him (then again you never know what those crazy Griz will bite on) - I'd imagine Anderson or Martin would have to go back for salary purposes unless they dealt Billups.

Yep. I remember posting that I wanted Mitch to take the Bulls offer of Deng + picks. It's not about keeping one guy happy, it's a team game.Don't know how long you can keep a guy who is openly saying he wants out. If I were running the Nuggs, I'd take the Nets offer that included Favors + picks. Guy is a beast. If Melo won't sign an extension with NJ, take Gallinari, Chandler, cap relief and a couple future picks.

Only caught the last part of the game. Sheldon Williams with 16 boards, how did he look other wise? Also did Nene bulk up some, he looked huge out there.

He was 3/11 from the floor, had 4 fouls and 4 turnovers in 28 minutes. The guy works hard, but he is a terrible defender, seems to get lost on rotations every other play, and has terrible hands. You could do worse than Shelden Williams being the 4th big off your bench, but if he is getting 28 minutes a game for your team, that is not a good thing.

The longer Denver waits the less likely Nets will deal Favors...especially if he keeps playing like he did last night. After watching Favors the last few weeks I think its best to keep him and go with a Favors/Brook combo....one more lotto season, GS 1st rder and lots more cash to spend next year should give the Nets enough ammo to be contenders.

TNT pregame show fantastic as always. Barkley and Webber breaking down interior offense a few minutes ago was awesome to watch.

Heat have not sold out their home opener. LOLz
I heard that this morning and couldn't believe it. That really happened?
It happened And it's awesome. I can see Lebron now after winning a title...."this one's for you, MIAMI, the best fans in the NBA!". :thumbup:edit: No offense to my Miami friends here, of course. The tickets left are apparently hundreds of $180 upper shelf seats. Ridiculous to charge that if true...

I think you're being a bit unfair to Pippen when Jordan was gone playing baseball he was close to taking that team to the finals as the unquestioned leader. And he was pretty close with Houston and Portland in his old age. Scottie only really had 2 years of his prime without Jordan.

Can't we say kinda the same thing about Anthony? He did get to the WC Finals 2 years ago.
