*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (3 Viewers)

Wonder if we will see Lebron on Nowitzki down the stretch here
They put him on Terry around the 5 min mark. Same time they put him on Rose. This must be the plan (negating Terry).
I think it's more about eliminating the Terry/Dirk pick and roll. In which case it's more about keeping the ball away from Dirk than ti is about defending Terry - that's more of a byproduct.
It seemed to work. The guy is wreaking havoc on other teams late game offenses.

Miami's defense was just too much for Dallas to handle tonight. Major adjustments need to be done if they want to win on Thursday. The Dallas bench was a non factor tonight for the most part. Terry, Barea need to step it up. I have no faith in Peja even making a decent contribution.

I was thinking Miami in five going into this series and don't see anything tonight that would change that. Agree on Peja. And I don't think Barea's going to be the factor that he was in previous series. He can't run past Miami. There's some hope for Terry, but he's going to have to be hot for the Mavs to win any games.

My blind homerism is holding out faith in the Mavs, but I have to admit I'm not as optimistic after tonight. The Heat made adjustments on Terry in the 2nd half, which is scary. Carlisle has 48 hours to make some major adjustments.

I don't think Terry scored in the 2nd half. They need him to hit shots with the other defensive specialists on the floor. Dirk cant carry it all.

Are the Mavs not a good rebounding team? The Heat have to be licking their chops with the rebounding being so much easier than it was against the Bulls series.

I thought Barea got some decent looks on some drives but just missed the shots. Agreed that it doesn't look as likely he'll have as big of an impact in this series.

That was almost completely a function of Chandler believing, after stringing almost a dozen good games together after only a decade in pro ball, that he's now too much of a star to have to pay attention to spacing on the floor.

Maybe it was just my perception, but he seemed a little more out of control when he got to the hoop. I thought he was having to work so hard to get there that he wasn't in position to make shots.

The more I watch of these playoffs, the more i realize how much better a team that listens to a competent coach is than one that doesnt. I've yet to see a team this season except the Celts (who maybe shouldnt) and the Bulls (cept when Boozer's playing) that does and that's why im real close to giving up on the sport entirely. The Heat have played close to 100 games together this season and they look like theyve just been introduced.
you are only watching half the game. watch the heat play d.

Peja is simply of no value if he can't hit 3s. He sucks on the defensive end and is too huge of a liability.
:goodposting: I think the rotation is going to change in Game 2On a related note, why isnt James Jones in there to help stretch the "zone"
I think you will see him if he is healthy. He has had a sprained foot and had been in a walking boot the entire Bulls series. Mike Miller is being held together by scotch tape at this point. He might as well cover his entire body in neoprin sleeves,The Heat will not be denied. They have the better defense and what looks like the better rebounding team. This may go 5. I thought 6 but if they continue to stifle the Mavs they are toast. They ate up that zone by hitting threes too.The Mavs did have a lot of looks but again if your a jump shooting team your going to struggle when they don't fall. The Mav's really have no muscle. And again The Heat are not playing their best ball on offense. They are going to roll to their 2nd title.

Nice game by the Heat. Mavericks didn't have much luck shooting it which isn't going to help them beat a team like Miami.

Defense doesn't slump. Have a good offseason Dallas.
Obviously having uber-athletic stars who are motivated at both ends helps a lot. But I'm curious what people think as to whether/how much Spoelstra deserves credit for what the Heat are doing on the defensive end.
Spo has been with the Miami Heat organization for 16 years. People also forget this guy managed to coach this team (along with The amazing Dwayne Wade leading) to 2 straight playoff appearences with a cast of mediocore players or retreads, as well as a failed 2nd overall pick in Michael Beasley (all world talent, 2 cent head). Spo is obviously a diciple of Pat Riley. And we all know Pat preaches defense first and foremost. Spo is a calm and smart coach. He never, ever loses control. He is all class. The players obviously respect him and do you really think Bosh and Lebron come here if they had any reservations about Spo? Most of us hardcore Heat fans never worried about Spo even with the 9-8 start. This team had to feel out how to play together and they are still learning on the offensive end. Bottom line with the heat ever since Riley came here and now continuing with Spo is if you don;t give maximum effort of defense your not going to last here. This is year one and we are 3 games away from one of many title this team will win. This team was put together to join the Bulls, Celtics and Lakers as one of the very teams of all time.Go Heat!!!!!

I don't think anyone ever doubted his chops. I think the question was whether he had the weight and experience to deal with what was a pretty unique circumstance. Gotta say I'm very impressed with him. There's not a lot about his Heat team that's easy to root for- and I'm definitely pulling for the Mavs in this series- but Spoelstra is a bright spot.

IMO he is a highly effective leader and communicator. So the concern is do the players take anything he says to heart knowing he never played at the highest level. It is an interesting dynamic to say the least. So far so good.Edited for accuracy.

Pretty sure we just saw the march to GOAT for LeBron last night. Only a Tiger-esque run of perkins waitresses can stop him now.

My biggest concern with him is the fact he did not play any type of college or pro ball.
:hophead: He was a 4 year starter at Univ of Portland and played two years in Germany as a player/coach.
Thank you I thought he did not play any ball. Apparently he played. And yes I am a hardcore fan.....But I don't read Coach bios. I know my players inside and out...coaches..not as much. Rooting for this team since 1988. Not a johnny come lately bud.Should have googled him..I knew someone would call this out LMAO.

LOL. Once he has at least 3 rings we can start having the conversation. Till then it is all about Michael.

The more I watch Mario Chalmers the more I think this guy is the real deal...if only for short bursts. Consistancy will be, and is currently, a huge issue but if he can get it worked out the Heat will be set at PG1 for the foreseeable future.

I'm not disagreeing with you, per se, but its not like the guy is being asked to carry the Hornets or the Nets out there...
