Tough win by the Nuggets. Short handed, 5th game in 7 days, 2nd OT game on the road trip, and survive Melo's game-tying heroics. Gallo also goes for a career high 37 for good measure.
Nuggs need this 4 day break (I think this is the first of more than 2 days - the only team that has played more games in the NBA is Chicago), Nene and Lawson were both visibly slowed by injuries tonight, it looked like Gallo rolled his ankle, he was grimacing for the last quarter or two and OT, and Afflalo and Fernandez were out with injuries.I love this Nuggets team, they are one legit big from contending for the title, IMO.
Keep giving Mozgov playing time. His game is improving.http://www.nba.com/video/games/knicks/2012/01/21/0021100228_den_nyk_play2.nba/

Saw they only played 7 against the Knicks. Do the Nuggets have any play with Martin and Smith? They can keep Chandler if they want?
There is about a 1% chance, IMO, that JR comes back. He can get a poor attitude, and I think he would be getting limited minutes (at most he would get all of Brewer's minutes) so he would throw a hissy fit. I think there is a fair chance Martin comes back, he was sitting on the Nuggets bench for the Rockets game (Martin's home town apparently) for a little while. He would help fill a void of a decent starting big. Nuggs have the rights on Chandler, so they would have the opportunity to match offer. I would guess that he'll either be resigned or involved in a sign and trade. Also, they hold bird rights on JR and Martin, so they could offer them larger contracts than anybody else or involve either of them in sign and trades. I would think that all three of these guys would be in fairly high demand for other teams because at worst they are 6th man types.

I wouldn't mind seeing Martin come back, but only on a short term or extremely cap friendly deal. Hopefully that role on the team can be filled by Faried sooner rather than later. I'm hoping they keep Chandler, who has a really steady and valuable skill set. I wish J.R.'s new team the best of luck.

I completely disagree with this. Hes still as horrible as he was last year, they're just playing him more in Denver than they did last year so you are seeing him make a nice play here and there because of his athleticism. Hes 25.5 years old, you aren't going to see him transform himself into a legit starting center, at best he will improve a little more and become a decent backup center. For a center he is a very poor rebounder, a mediocre weakside defender and is only a adequate post defender. If he isn't going to help in those facets, he has to be a very good offensive player, but all he can do offensively is hit short jumpers occasionally and run toward the hoop and be big. The Nuggets are 9.7 points worse with him on the court (worst on the team) and he is playing with the starting unit. He is complete trash.

If you haven't seen improvement in him I can't really say anything in return.

The only thing he does better now than the day the traded for him, is on pseudo fast breaks he runs directly under the hoop and posts up. I still think that Koufos, Bird and Faried are all better.

You are dillusional.

Lakers lose again to a decent Eastern conference team. :pretender:
Loving this Indiana team. It's like watching Hoosiers at the pro level. Glad for the fans there that it's actually in Indiana with all its knowledgeable HS bball fanatics -- they must be loving it.Every starter took between 8-15 shots...scored 12-18 points...had 2-7 assists...grabbed 4-9 rebounds. Shot 85% from the line as a team. Interesting that they have two guys you'd think of as alpha scorers in Granger and West, but both are just cogs in this machine.I don't really believe they're title contenders or anything. But they could make some noise in the playoffs, and nobody is going to want to play them. Shooters, post guys, crazy size, balance, depth, D, fundamentals...

I just like to point out that lost in all this Dwight Howard stuff, Hedo Turkoglu is quietly having arguably the best season of his career.

Rip is looking like Detroit Rip. I didn't think the upgrade at 2 would be this substantial, but he has impressed so far.

Add to that Brewer having a fantastic year and the Bulls seem to have remedied their biggest weakness from last year.

Brewer played basically all of last year injured. I expected everything from him so far aside from the 3 point shooting. As for Rip, it is amazing the effect he has on the offense. The ball movement is so crisp and his presence creates easy baskets for everyone. He only had 22 and 10 assists tonight. And 15K.

I'd just like to point out that the Houston Rockets are the hottest team in the NBA. Watch out OKC. They're coming for ya.

I thought Chase Budinger was going to be a nice sleeper pick.

He'd give some 3's, a few boards, maybe 12-14 ppg.

He's been dreadful, and these last two games has pulled the DNP-CD.

S.A.Smith reports Orlando sending out feelers to the Knicks regarding Amare/Chandler for Howard/etc.

Sounds like noise, or like Orlando just wants feelers being made public to try to force LA into Bynum/Gasol, but I don't think it's the worst deal Orlando could possibly take. Smells better than anything involving Brook Lopez.

Chandler can't be dealt till March, so it would be slow going if there's any substance.

Have you seen Amare play this year? He's finished as being anything relevant in the NBA. Nobody wants that cat!

:goodposting: Terrible trade for Orlando. Stupid ### S.A. Smith just looking to get a headline.

Lamar Odom's act is growing very tiresome here in Dallas. I was really excited about him in a Mavs uniform at the beginning of the year, but now I wish they could get rid of him. He has zero interest in being here and his effort and performance shows it so far.

+1If I didn't know better, I'd say he kind of sucked at basketball. It's ugly. Fortunately, in a year we get to replace him with whatever ring chasing vet or scrub that wants the minimum to play alongside Dirk/Dwight/Deron.

Didn't you just describe Odom?

I'd take his production this year if we were paying him $8 million dollars less.

Carmelo Anthony = 1pt :boxing:
You'd think he'd have figured this out by now...Link

"When you're missing shots and they're right there and they're not going in, you say 'Maybe the next one, maybe the next one.' That's kind of the mentality that you have. But maybe I need to stop shooting a lot, I don't know. It's just a bunch of stuff that goes through my mind right now."
Enjoy the next 4 years Knick fans

The Nuggets are close to signing Danilo Gallinari to a long-term contract, a league source confirmed this morning.

The contract would be for four years, around $40 million total, the source told The Denver Post, locking in the player they call Gallo as he ascends for the powder blue — coach George Karl has previously said he thinks the Italian small forward can be an all-star someday.

Including a 37-point game at Madison Square Garden this season, Gallo averages 17.4 points per game, a career-high, and 5.2 rebounds, as well.

The Nuggets play at Sacramento tonight. Gallinari, born 8/8/88, is 23 years old.

Seems like a reasonable contract for him and the Nuggets.

Danilo Gallinari and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension, according to league sources.

Third move by the Nuggets as they also locked up Nene (five years, up to $67 million) and Afflalo (five years, up to $43 million).

Lets hope Gallo responds a little better to his new contract than the other two.Fair price, glad to see they are making an effort to build the team for the future. I was a little worried when Kronke had to "sell" the team.

As a heat fan I will say that I am a fan of Gallinari's game and was happy to see the knicks trade him away...
