*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

It really is fun watching this Spurs teams play. They are so unselfish; they seem to do everything right. I imagine it must be a little bit like what the old John Wooden UCLA teams were like.

there seems to be a real understanding with this version of the team that no one is "the guy". In previous years, Timmy or Manu were the go-to player. This year, however, it feels like the balance is there. There is tremendous flexibility and creativity coming out of it.

Hey Westbrook:

The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting. That's pride ####### with you. #### pride. Pride only hurts. It never helps.
As good as he is, his selfish play is the single biggest weakness for the Thunder.

Yep. That's why I said they reminded me of the John Wooden teams- (I was too young to watch them, I'm going on what I've seen on film)- complete unselfishness, always passing to the open man, always in the right position on defense- etc.

it's tough to make the comparisons. it's two different eras of bball. the game has changed in almost every way, i think. same rules - more or less - but played differently. it's fun to see these spurs win this way.

I'm hoping some lovers of basketball here (like Ferris and others) will come in and comment about what we're watching here. I don't know enough to comment intelligently myself, except to say I get this is really special.

Thunder came out of the half completely deflated. Not that it would matter but their effort so far in the second has been terrible.

I'm going to fly from Charlotte to San Antonio and see if it makes me a 100 times better basketball player too.

The Thunder should be embarrassed by their effort tonight. I know that the Spurs are simply better and I'm not trying to take anything away from them but this is a joke. You can't just stand around and give up on plays on defense. They aren't getting out to shooters, at all.

Durant needs to just say f it and start bombing shots.

That was pretty funny. I thought Parker was going to have a cup of tea while he was setting up for that 3 in the corner.OKC might be heating up though. As ugly as it's been so far, one decent run makes a game out of this.

They lost 2 games in indy, I think mainly out of boredom. Otherwise, just showing up seems to be about what this requires.
Miami cannot defeat the Celtics by "showing up."
If this series isn't a sweep I will be shocked. Wade will have to fall asleep on the court again like he did in Indy.If they show up, this series is already over.
The Heat won game 1 at home. It's amazing how this causes an overreaction every single time.

The Thunder are capable of scoring with them but there is no way they can do enough on defense to come back from a lead like this. Brooks needs to seriously consider not playing Perk and Ibaka together, like at all.

Hack-a-Splitter will be a good way to set that up.

Well I can't wait to see Heat vs. Spurs. OKC just doesn't have the perimeter defenders for the Spurs. The Heat, however, are the best perimeter defending team in the league and that should make it a pretty stellar matchup.

I thought THIS was going to be a pretty stellar matchup. Maybe it will be when they change venues...

Yes, why is this spurs team this year so much better than teh last 3-4 years of teams they've put out? is this a better or worse team than the one that they took to the last title? I mean that team had a ginobili parker and duncan that were 5 years younger, a great defensive bruce bowen, and some other solid role players.but this team is flat rolling

No.
they have way to many possessions where nobody except westbrook is involved in any way. not only touching the ball, but screening and moving...he should be taking some notes from what parker is doing on the other end.

yes clearly the point guard is 100% responsible for everyone else's movement throughout the entire possession.

It's more the team than Westbrook, but he isn't helping any.

OKC isn't quite ready, IMO. Duncan's game is the type that ages well - his basketball IQ and value as perhaps the greatest team oriented superstar since Magic cannot be overstated. Parker has become an elite PG after long being very good but not truly great. And Kawhi was an absolutely perfect, PERFECT fit for this team; I can honestly say I think he wouldn't be this good either in the short term or long term had he gone to any other franchise. Pop's pretty good too.

Problem isn't Westbrook.

It's that everyone outside the Big 3 is useless tonight. (Shooting 15% tonight 5-32)

Sad seeing Derek Fisher on the court.....for what, his defensive prowess...his veteran leadership?

Hate to see Fish like that as well. He can't seem to do anything right.

Pretty impressive how the Spurs locked it down on D during that period where they went cold on offense and right after they couldn't keep OKC off the line.

when the entire possession lasts 3 seconds because the point guard over-penetrates and everybody on the team knows he's not kicking it out unless he fumbles it, yeah it kinda is his responsibility. he's a great player, no doubt. but he's not the man on the team but he thinks he is. that won't work...
