Won't the Heat just add some different role players who are happy to go to Miami for relatively little in order to get rings?

They are going to be essentially the same team next year as everyone is under contract. Allen can opt out but it doesn't seem likely unless he gets another ring and just goes hunting for a bigger payday. But even then, they won't be able to replace him with anyone better.

Some free agents that are nearing the end, possibly chasing a ring: Jermain O'NealAntwan JamisonElton BrandAl Harrington (has a partially guaranteed contract)Rip HamiltonChauncey Billups

A whole bunch of meh...Jamison and Brand could be useful but that's about it IMO.

O'Neal had a very good year in limited minutes, Brand would be fantastic for them. Jamison and Harrington would both be nice backup 4s. Hamilton is probably toast, but if hes willing to take a small role he would fit. Billups probably doesn't have the ego to play 10-15 mpg, but if he did, he can still run an offense and is a knock down shooter.

The bigs (Brand and O'Neal) could definitely help out when matched up against Indy.Billups/Rip would be useless. I'd much rather have Cole/Allen/Rio over those two.

Brand and O'Neal would be 3rd bigs, Billups and Hamilton would be more like 5th guards.

I'm not doubting he's high on the list of all time greats, but suggesting he's better than Jordan is only slightly less ridiculous than the Kobe / Jordan comparisons.

I'm certainly a flip flopper, can't deny that.

But I do think LeBron is better than MJ, or Magic, or Kobe, or Bird. Practically the only guy I would take ahead of Lebron is Shaq, but not because Shaq is more talented; it's because center is more important IMO.

I generally subscribe to the theory that today's athletes, especially in team sports, are better than yesterday's. They're bigger, faster, stronger, they play better and more complicated defense. And LeBron is a physical freak of nature of the type we've never seen before. (Well, most of us haven't. Wilt was a freak of nature as well, but I'm too young for that.)

Agreed that he'll pass Duncan.I'm not looking to nit pick Lebron honestly and do realize he's incredible. But when people initiate the comparison between him and Jordan I just find it absurd. MVP's and regular season stats are great, but what really makes Jordan GOAT is that he took that game to entirely different levels when the chips were down and almost never had games likes these, especially in the Finals. Yes those Western Conference teams tended to be weaker than what Lebron is facing here, so maybe what Jordan was doing to the Pistons or Knicks is a better comparison. Playoff Jordan torches playoff Lebron so badly that that discussion really should be over. Now it's whether Lebron is better than everyone else.

But I've got Duncan way up there: #7 and not done climbing.Duncan was a top five player from the moment he joined the league - the list of players who were first-team All-NBA as rookies is really short, and Duncan's name is on it. At similar years of experience, Duncan had two league MVPs, four alpha titles, and a long stretch as the best player in the league.I think if LeBron stays healthy, by the end of his career I will consider him a greater player than Duncan.

Agreed. I have Duncan around #5 all time. LeBron basically needs a greater degree of longevity to pass Duncan and barring injury, he should.

But I've got Duncan way up there: #7 and not done climbing.Duncan was a top five player from the moment he joined the league - the list of players who were first-team All-NBA as rookies is really short, and Duncan's name is on it. At similar years of experience, Duncan had two league MVPs, four alpha titles, and a long stretch as the best player in the league.I think if LeBron stays healthy, by the end of his career I will consider him a greater player than Duncan.

No one was better than Shaq when he was motivated and in shape. That is a very small window but Duncan became the best player when Shaq fell off his peak.

Iggy and smith will be interesting contracts. Both are at "last huge contract" points in there career as one is 29 and one is 28. But both have been sort of "meh" statistically the last season or two. Both have reputations as solid defenders which matters in a league where stopping Durante and Lebron is a big big deal.

Both probably deserve 4/40 or or 50 at most but I presume they are looking for much more.
