*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (6 Viewers)

Off-season question number 1:

Is Wade descending quickly or was he just unhealthy?
Wade was having a tremendous year until he hurt his knee.He will be back again. And play well. But he is getting older no question. But I watched every Heat game this year. He was on fire till he bruised that knee. He is a warrior. Tough guy. No question he gutted it out.
I know Lebron is only 28, but I think Spoelstra needs to take it easy in the next regular season on James and Wade. Give them nights off, play them fewer minutes, etc.

From what I know, Miami doesn't have a lot of room to do anything this off-season. Should be the same cast of characters I would think.
you mean other than trade bosh?
I really don't see them moving Bosh.
yeah, no way some team is going to give up someone and absorb bosh's contract after that showing.
Yeah cuz one game makes a career.
16M for 0 points. C'mon. Even Ginobli scored.
66 wins, back to back titles.

16M for being a vital cog for that.

He had a horrible game tonight....but a great season and a major part of why Lebron and Wade can do what they do. He went from being a number one option to a third option. Went from taking 21-25 shots a night to playing out of position.

TO WIN TITLES.

Yeah but if you factor in the turnovers, he had like -8 points.

Is there a game without Bosh in game 6?

Ray Allen didn't score, either. I still think he had something to do with this.

question for Pop: why not put Diaw in the game over Green, especially down the stretch?

he was doing some good work defensively. he's able to shoot 3's and can pass. it would have given them some help on the boards too. i understand most, if not all, of the substitutions in the game for the spurs but this one.
yeah, agree with that. no explaining that. green was just awful. diaw was a lot more effective on defense and like you said, the rebounding help would've been nice.
green does okay on defense and the little things. i get that but i would give diaw - who does a lot right too - some of his minutes, especially in the 4th.
He's no better on D than Diaw. With Diaw in you can slide Leonard over to Wade which is a better matchup for the Spurs and Diaw seemed slightly more effective against Wade. Combine that with his rebounding and I think he's a defensive upgrade over Green. Offensively, there's not much of a comparison the way Green finished up that series. The guy could hardly dribble the ball without turning it over.

congrats heat brohans if was you i would not even be able to slep and would probably go home and have so much energy that i would need to do something and i would probably do something like install a new faucet or put in a new toilet in my bathroom so i hope that home depot is ready for a midnight run if there are a lot of people like me down tere take that to that the bank brohans
Damn right. Nothing like celebrating an NBA championship like some home improvement.

5 Heat players scored in the entire game. Bosh and Allen combined for 0 points on an 0 for 9. 5th leading scorer had a robust 3 points.

Lebron really just pulled them to that title.

Kinda like Jordan did for several Bulls titles.

That's what the best in the world do.

Yeah, and birdman had a few rebounds and Battier had 5 3's. All those guys contributed way more and get paid far less. Bosh actually makes 17.5M. If the heat could move him, they would. No way are they getting their monies worth just like teh Spurs aren't getting their monies worth from Ginobli's 14M contract. Heck, he's a vital cog. they were one miracle shot from Allen away from winning a title. Maybe they should resign him to 17.5M as well. At least he scored in game 7.

Battier becomes the first Blue Devil alumnus to win the NBA title twice after becoming just the third Duke player to win an NBA championship, joining Danny Ferry and Jeff Mullins.
For such a dominant school, their players sure have sucked on the next level. Ferry was a bench warmer when he got his title.

Your not getting it. Bosh is vital to Lebron and Wade's ability to drive, slash and score.

Vital. And Bosh played well this year.

Bosh may be overpaid....but The Heat are gladly signing the checks as they fit themselves for their second ring.

And Bosh will be back again....The Big Three going for three in 2013/14

I would bring a flashlight to the nearest swamp and use it to catch frogs. I would just have to be careful of not going near any alligators.

Great game miami.

Bosh did what he had to do tonight. 8 rebounds and good D on duncan. Wade came to play and had his jumper going and so did LBJ. The spurs spent 7 games giving both those guys those shots. Tonight they made them and the miracle 3s the spurs were hitting from everywhere regressed to the mean.

Nice job for the heat.

I hope all the LeBron haters are watching him get interviewed at the ESPN desk. It's the most endearing I've ever seen him: humble, thoughtful, and thankful. I can see why teammates would like playing with him.
For sure. He kind of had that "#### the haters, what do you think of me now?" pose right after he was presented the MVP trophy, but given the criticism he has endured, it is somewhat understandable. But yeah, he was very humble in that interview with Magic, Rose and Simmons just now.

Totally relaxed and candid, too. Almost as if there weren't cameras there. I've never seen him like that.

Manu should be investigated for games 6 and 7.

8 turnovers in game 6 and, in game 7, that ridiculous turnover and crazy, not even in the same zipcode airballed three that enabled Miami to cover the spread in the last minute.

Shame.

My 9 year old daughter is very happy tonight. She cares nothing about the Heat or the Spurs, but she is a huge LeBron fan, because she is heavily involved in the Boys and Girls Club, and that is his charity of choice. Our local Boys and Girls Club, which my daughter visits 3 times a week for theater and dance, has posters of LeBron James everywhere.

Not quite as relaxed and candid in the press conference, but every bit as thoughtful. He talked through the game film he reviewed before Game 4 to determine how SAS was going to guard him the rest of the series, picked out opportunities based on his shot charts and stats from the season, and put in extra practice shooting from soft spots in SAS's defense.

He also went into some detail about the team defense approach to slowing down Tony Parker. Parker is almost always top 5-10 in the league in points in the paint, and a lot of those come early on the shot clock. So MIA emphasized getting three men back on defense to stop Parker from getting early buckets: one to pick up Parker, a second to protect the rim. and a third to take away easy passes.
Yep, it really showed how smart of a player he is. Some dopey fans get stuck on "He didn't shoot enough in the 2nd quarter of that one game" kind of thinking, but he knew that series was gonna go long, and he adjusted accordingly along the way, and pretty much torched them the last 5+ quarters.

So LeBron was just slow playing SA when they were down 5 with 28 ticks in Game 6?

Fair comment?

Kevin Van Valkenburg ‏@KVanValkenburgLove Kobe, greatest respect for MJ, but really enjoy that LeBron is proof you don't have to belittle & bully your teammates to win a title.
Definitely fair. MJ and Kobe are #######s. LeBron's got a monster ego, but he's always struck me as a solid dude.
Jordan and Bryant won with the teams they started with. James didn't. It's a vapid statement that's easy bait.

THE most heart wrenching post game interview I've ever seen: Duncan. He couldn't even look up and didn't understand a few questions. Such a shame....

It's so funny the way things work out sometimes. During the last 3 minutes of game 6, prior to the two miracle 3s, LeBron missed his last few shots and also committed a turnover, which allowed the Spurs to get that 5 point lead.

Can you imagine what happens if Ray Allen misses that 3 pointer? LeBron would have been killed in here, in the media, everywhere. He would have been called a choker. It would have been ridiculous of course, but people would have said it anyhow. \

Sometimes no matter how great you are, your reputation depends on a little luck as well as talent...

Haven't seen S. Jackson play much in the past few seasons but if he's anything close to the player he was they sure could have used him in games 6 & 7.

MIAMI (AP) — Miami Heat fans swarmed from downtown bars and rushed cheering and screaming into the streets late Thursday after their team won its second straight NBA championship.

As the final seconds of the Heat's 95-88 win over the San Antonio Spurs wound down, fans by the thousands streamed into the area surrounding the AmericanAirlines Arena to exchange high-fives and hugs, blow whistles and simply scream. Some climbed atop street signs and a railroad crossing.

Unlike last year's final game blowout of the Oklahoma City Thunder, which ended a 4-1 Heat series win, the year's decisive Game 7 was tight until the end, adding to the excitement when a late run by Miami finally put the Spurs away. Because the over-the-air, cable and satellite television signals weren't quite synced, cheers would go up from one bar when the Heat hit a shot, followed a second or two later by cheers from another.

"It's euphoria in the city of Miami," said Alex Vailon, a 20-year-old Miami resident. "How many teams have took two in a row?" (Oof)

Several, actually, but Miami fans were not interested in history lessons as their team celebrated its third NBA title in the last eight seasons. As with the Heat's two previous titles, officials said the city's celebration was generally peaceful — police chased away a few celebrants who were jumping on top of limousines that were leaving the arena.

"This was by far the best (win)," said Gary Pollack, 58, who has had season tickets for 12 years and was inside the arena for the game. "San Antonio is an unbelievable team. I am so exhausted from the last two games, I feel like I played in them."

A few miles away in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, thousands gathered in the streets to bang pots and pans — a neighborhood tradition — hold up Heat signs and chant "Let's Go Heat!" People in the cars driving by rolled down their windows, stuck their bodies out and waved their hands and also banged their pots and pans. Men smoked cigars and almost everyone captured the cookware symphony on their cell phones.

"This is what we Latin people do," said Carlos Gonzalez, 33, who was holding up a sign with the image of LeBron James' head. "There's no words to explain this. We're going to party till the sun rises."

Even children were taking part in the celebration.

Ernest "LIttle MOP" Denis, 12, said he was feeling "a lot of rush and excitement." He was banging the top of a pot with a spoon and wearing a James jersey.

He said he wanted "to make a lot of noise and alert everybody that the Heat won."

Lt. Ignatius Carroll of the City of Miami Fire Department said early Friday that authorities had gotten no reports of major problems arising from the post-game celebrations. He said there had been no gun-related incidents as of 1:30 a.m., with the main problems earlier being fans jumping on cars and limousines outside the arena after the Heat won.

"It's a very peaceful celebration," Carroll said, adding that the heavy police presence near the arena helped maintain control.

Hundreds gathered around a van owned by Telemundo, the Spanish-language TV network, to catch white T-shirts with the Heat logo being thrown by a man on its roof.

Among them was Ernesto Lopez, 43, who caught two, one of which he immediately put on. He planned to share the other with family.

Even though he has been in the United States just three years, he said he was driven by "the emotion, the passion" of the final game to come out and celebrate.

"It's important to say that San Antonio was good too," he said. "But the Heat won and congratulations to us!"

You don't hear much about him being a stat nerd, but he talked at length about reviewing his stats, how doing that reminded him how he became a good midrange shooter, and helped him pick out spots on the floor to shoot from. They identified PnR pairings where LeBron's man would go under the screen, and adjusted the pick site to get a hot shooting spot for LeBron. That's how they drew up the high screen and jumper the put the game away tonight.
I've heard of him being a stats guy and I appreciate it. I think it helps add to his efficiency and obviously he puts in a lot of craft to his game. I just think that at some point, you throw the stats out and just play. I actually like advanced stats and maybe I'm still naive but I think there is a point where the stats are limited. So watching LeBron take over in game 6, put his head down and will his team back in is what I've been waiting to see. Something just clicked at the end of the 3rd quarter last game (it looked like either a Spur said something he didn't like or he just realized what was happening) and as he said during the interview, "I'm gonna shoot all the bullets, the gun, and the holster and that's how they are going to take me down"

It was interesting to see him so candid about passing to his teammates and such and how he game planned for the Spurs.

Just keep feeding the ball to timmy just like they should've done in game 6. Bosh has 3 fouls trying to guard him. Huge talent drop off after him.
I feel like Andersen is doing a good job on Duncan.
Yeah he's their best defensive option, but a pretty big offensive liability. Once Bosh gets back in, you have to go back to Duncan.
Don't know they would have done without Bosh's contribution on the offensive end last night.

Nobody said he was the goat in any of those years, just better than Kobe.

MJ, Russell, Wilt, Magic, Kareem, Lebron, Duncan, Oscar, Hakeem, Shaq.
