*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

Agree with your assessment, but Garnett had a no trade and pierce had to be treated "right". They couldn't just send him to Charlotte for a second round pick.

Rockets podcast - rumor / report that the team was "close" to a deal for Aldridge that included Asik.
That would be interesting, Aldridge and Howard playing together. I wonder who else was going to be included on the Houston side.
I can't imagine they would have included parsons. And it would have had to have been a discussion after the Robinson/Howard deals. Asik, jones or donuts, two firsts?

LA is worth way more than that.
Agree 100%. I was just pointing out what a "best" offer would be that didn't include Harden or Parsons. And I assume the Blazers wouldn't want Lin. Everyone else that was under contract 10 days ago is min salary or close to it (Beverly, Smith, Jones, Donuts). Casspi, Garcia, Williams, and the Summer League guys are all new signings.

Multiple teams called about Aldridge when that story came out about him being unhappy in Portland. I assume there is not much to this Houston rumor like there wasn't much to the other Aldridge rumors. The only place I can find this rumor being reported is on some Rockets fan-site.

Oden and Bynum are both interesting. I don't expect great health, but in the event either if them is close to 100% then they are players capable of transforming a teams fortunes immediately. Both are 25 and would be top 10 at their positions with good health.

I'd love either for the minimum, but not a dollar more. Big men with bad knees are walking time bombs. Even when Bynum was "healthy" his last year in LA, it makes watching each minute excruciating knowing that their season could be over on the next play.

Really? Considering the salary floor and the ability to add POI it seems like a no brainer to chase these guys if you need a center.

New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith, who last week signed a four-year, $24.7 million deal to remain with the club, underwent surgery on his left knee. The team said Smith had surgery on the patella tendon. He also had an arthroscopic procedure for a tear in the lateral meniscus of his left knee at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The Knicks said Smith's injuries were chronic and gradually worsened. He is expected to need 12-to-16 weeks for recovery. KSDK
:moneybag:

Man, I sure hope Rose returns soon. It's been so long since he was 100% that I think people have forgotten how good he was. Not James or durant, but when healthy he was in the next four it five.

Discussion on the rockets board at the moment: Isaiah or cp3?
We've had this one before here. Paul owns him in every measurable way other than rings but some people fall back on the whole rings argument. I'm of the opinion that Thomas is one of the most historically overrated players of all time.

Interesting. I've never really thought about it except that it always occurred to me that the championship pistons teams features some players that were largely underrated due to the shadow cast by Thomas.

Chris Broussard thinks arrest gets the Knicks close to the east elite because of his ability to hot the three and play defense.

Huh?

I think he is saying that he thinks that Artest gets the Knicks closer to being an elite team because he can hit the three and play defense.

Based on measurables, CP3 has few peers at the PG position. Magic, Oscar, and then CP3 is how i'd rank them.

Stockton? Kidd?
Neither are in CP3's league, IMO. Stockton's slightly overrated IMO due to Malone's presence. In fairness, he was smart enough to realize he had a Clydesdale and rode Karl for 20 yrs.

Kidd further down the list. Could have been an all time top 10er if he even had a decent jumper. ason indeed.

Harden2.0 update:

Muhammad scored seven points and was 3-of-7 from the field in 25 minutes Saturday while playing for Minnesota's Las Vegas summer league team.

I think he will be the best player from this draft.
I don't.
I'm trying to remember the last time someone's draft stock plummeted in the weeks/months leading up to the draft and then that player turned out to be as good as he was projected to be pre-plummet.

For all the crap people give them, NBA talent evaluators are pretty good at what they do. This isn't the NFL where a guy's stock falls because he tests positive for weed or something stupid like that. The NBA guys usually get it right.

Harrison Barnes dropped from #2 to #7, though that process took months (he might've even dropped from #1 to #7, if we go back to before the week Anthony Davis grew 18 inches).

Of course, that's only about half of Shabazz' plummet and we still don't know if Barnes will end up out-producing his draft slot by much.

Hyperbole. Artest probably doesn't add a single win to the Knicks.
He can hot the three pretty well.
His mediocre 3 point shooting (34% and 30% the last 2 years) doesn't make up for his terrible shooting everywhere else.

ETA: And I completely missed that we are were talking about his ability to hot the three.
