*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (2 Viewers)

I know this is Rose's first game back, but he looks really bad. Getting crossed over like he did by Cole earlier in the quarter was embarrasing.
What exactly did Rose do to you?

He looks fine. Everybody gets their ankles broke at some point (I think Anderson got his foot in their to help him fall though).

I was surprised the Lakers won, with all reserves in the 4th qtr. Seems like Clips need time to get used to a new coach like Lakers did last year.

Re: lakers

Even though he didn't play all that well on the stat sheet , it is clear to see how much better they look with Nash ingrained in to the team. I'm guessing a full camp with Nash and Pringles made a huge difference. It also helps that gasol seemed very comfortable largely having the paint to himself.

I don't think the lakers have the talent to contend but they should be better than people think. And oh yeah, expect that all to come crashing to a halt when Kobe returns. Kobe is an amazing player but I don't think he's going to fit this team's style very well at all. They seemed comfortable last night with the notion that no single guy needed a bunch of touches (especially when the reserves were in). That won't work with Kobe.

It never ceases to amaze me that some people continue to assume that a guy who was either the alpha player or the second star on 5 championship teams is unable to work with others.

The Kobe/Shaq era comes to mind?

Yeah, they beat the Clips with skrubs in the 4th quarter in Doc's debut without Bryant. That was the FFA's Super Bowl here.

Last night was fun. Some of the "scrubs" may be better than advertised, or it may have been a fluke. We'll see. Tonight at Golden State will be a much tougher test, as the Warriors aren't learning a new defense.

The notion that Kobe will make the team worse when he returns is laughable. Kobe Bryant remains one of the small handful of elite basketball players on the planet. His presence next year, along with the acquisition of a star free agent or two, and the continued development of some of these "scrubs", should lead to another ring very shortly. Nothing but good days ahead for Lakers fans, just as it's always been.

I don't understand what's so bothersome about pointing out that a D'Antoni/Nash/Spread-it-around-all-over offense might not fit well with a "pass me the ball and stand around" player like Kobe Bryant. I think Bryant is an exceptional player. I don't think he fits in this system just like Carmelo didn't fit.

And it's nice that it only took one day for the discussion to begin about the star free agents coming to the Lakers. Aside from this piece I would submit that the Free Agent pool this summer isn't all it's cracked up to be after LBJ and Anthony. Is Chris Bosh a massive upgrade over Gasol? Wade isn't a good fit. Zach Randolph? Exactly who are the star free agents available that are going to change the Lakers' fortunes to go from .500 to title contender?

:lmao:

Yes, his awesome 1-3, 3 point, 5 assist 3 turnover game last night really carried the Lakers.

Nash barely did anything in the preseason, let alone play. He's only slightly less frail and mobile than Monty Burns. Farmar has been the best PG on this team since preseason and I don't expect that to change. Nash is pretty much done.

Everyone figured that they would be super conservative with his rehab, especially since they don't care about winning games. It is a surprise that they would officially shut him down, especially since Andrews is saying good things. Tank mode is really in full effect.
Sixers' open at home against the defending champions and Allen Iverson is likely to be on-hand to announce his retirement, and they still have to have a ticket deal through Living Social. This year is going to be an epic suck-fest.
I know that no one else really cares about this, but here is the promotional photo for tonight's opener: http://info.comcast-spectacor.com/res/wellsfargo/593e25d457454fa89232e6fe54545287.png

The immortal Michael Carter-Williams is the face of the franchise right now.

Cool to see your reading comprehension has not improved. I didn't say Nash looked like an all star. In fact I didn't say anything directly about his play at all. I said that his presence is noticeable. The ball was moving all over the place which is a change from last year.
