*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (8 Viewers)

Shockingly the Grzzlies have stopped playing Ed Davis as much, have tightened up the player rotation and, are winning again.

Good road win in the second game of a back to back against the Clippers last night.

Warrior's at home tomorrow night is going to be a tough one.

They couldn't get Aldridge.
I'm not sure that's true. Bulls (picking #2) wanted Tyrus Thomas and Portland (picking #4) wanted Aldridge. My understanding is both teams knew the Bobcats wanted Morrison. If the Bobcats wanted Aldridge or Thomas, the Chicago-Portland trade would have fallen apart. If that would have happened, the Bulls likely would have picked Thomas at #2.
Not that it matters much, but if the Blazers thought the Bobcats might take Aldridge, wouldn't they have been even more motivated to get in the top 3 to get him?
Which other pick in the top 3? Raptors seemed intent on picking Bargnani and I don't think they would would have dealt #1 unless it was a great package for them. So, other than the Bobcats, that meant Portland would have to go through the Bulls or hope that he'd drop to #4.
That might have been true in Colangelo's mind, but word at the time was that the Raptors were actively shopping the pick and couldn't find an attractive offer.

Not only did we have Jan Vesely sighting tonight, but he played well (3 alley oops!) and locked down Kevin Love on the game's final possessions. Dozens of fans at the Verizon Center were stunned.

Watching the Raptors play, and JV has no hope of turning into a good player on this team. He is working his ### off getting good position, and barely a sniff of the ball. Heaven forbid Derozen and Gay don't jack up 50 shots.

The Cavs really couldn't have hoped for much more than 1 PPG out of Bennett.
If you're watching the games he looks even worse than the box scores indicate, if that's possible. Solid chance he has more air balls than FG this season.
Did you see last week when he stripped the opponent of the ball about two seconds after the final buzzer, and dunked it to get on the score sheet?

Embarrassing.

Please refer to them as the Atlantic Division leading Toronto Raptors.

But yes, you are 100% correct.

Who does he need to beat out to earn the title of "Worst #1 pick ever"...?

The Candy Man?
I mean the silver lining, if you want to call it that, is that coming off his shoulder surgery he's a woefully out of shape tub of goo right now. The hope is once he gets his body in NBA caliber shape the obvious flashes of talent he showed in college will translate to the pro game. But the kid looks just absolutely mentally defeated out there on the court right now, and I'm not sure there's a worse coach in the NBA then potato head Brown, so he's not going to get much help there either.

Trollgunz left out that VO had 20 points and 5 steals in his first career start tonight.
You'd be bitter too if Dwight left your team as screwed as he did the Lakers. No worthwhile assets, a pile of dough owed to aging crap, and future drafts that look like this and offer no hope:

2015 first round draft pick to Phoenix

L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-5 in 2015, 1-3 in 2016 or 1-3 in 2017 or unprotected in 2018 [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012]

2015 second round draft pick to Orlando

L.A. Lakers' 2015 2nd round pick to Orlando protected for selections 31-40 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then the L.A. Lakers' obligation to Orlando will be extinguished) [Denver-L.A. Lakers-Orlando-Philadelphia, 8/10/2012]

2017 first round draft pick to Orlando

If at least two years after the L.A. Lakers conveyed a 1st round pick to Phoenix, then the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Orlando protected for selections 1-5 in 2017 or 1-5 in 2018 or unprotected in 2019; if the L.A. Lakers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Phoenix by 2017, then the L.A. Lakers will instead convey their 2017 2nd round pick and 2018 2nd round pick to Orlando [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012 and then L.A. Lakers-Orlando, 8/10/2012]

Yea but no superstar leaves LA man.

Good shooting night for VO tonight as well (5-12, 42%) helping lift his FG% to 38.9% for the season.
20 points on 12 shots.

Plz stop being dumb. Thx.
Meant to offer my condolences after watching that Ok St/Memphis tilt last night. I know it's painful thinking about what might have been. Instead of Smart, you got Jonny Flynn Jr.

I'm here if you need to talk gb.

Sure. How is Dwight doing for LA tonight.

After reading Zach Lowe's Howard takedown yesterday, I'm starting to think we dodged a bullet. Even when the Lakers lose, they win.

I love LA

You're gonna feel like you won a lot these next few years then.

And yet even at this current low point for Laker fans, we're still looking down at the Magic in the standings.

Lowe made some good points about Howard, his drop-off has been pretty ugly. Orlando came out of that OK.

I think LA was effed if they signed him, effed if they didn't.

Great. I hope the Magic win like 15 games this season.

Enjoy that 40-42 season. Should do wonders for you all.

Are the Trailblazers for real this year? 8 game win streak, they have been beating up on under .500 teams though.

LA, Batum, Lilliard, Lopez, and Matthews....solid starting lineup with a great 6 man (Mo Williams) if he can stay healthy all year. Fun team to watch. Lopez and Williams, the missing pieces they needed last year?

I don't understand gunz baiting Cappy. The guys who went before and after VO hardly look like rotation guys either. Taking the best option in a crummy draft is not bad.

Because he's dumb?

Oladipo is hyper athletic and already a great defensive player. Even if he never becomes a top-10 star he's still a great piece to have, and as hard as he allegedly works, I feel like he will develop a J.

He's never going to be a PG though. The magic are just doing that to work on his handle and quietly tank games.

Yeah I don't get it either. He's still in his first month in the NBA. Not even Anthony Davis looked good in his first month. Pretty certain every GM in the league would take him over anyone else from the 2013 draft right now, as well as MKG, Waiters, TRob, and most other picks from the much stronger 2012 draft (AD, Lillard, Drummond notwithstanding).

I guess they just have a strong hate on for each other.

I don't hate Gunz at all. I would have a beer with him tomorrow. He's just trolling me because his nba team sucks, he roots for the padres even though he could just bandwagon the Dodgers like he did the Lakers and he probably had to give up the weed after he had a kid.

You answered your own question. With so many teams tanking this year, there are going to be a few teams that end up with inflated win totals. The Blazers will come down to earth once they play a few contenders.

I think the Blazers have a nice core group of players, but they are still lacking a true #1 (Aldridge is a #2 and Lillard is nowhere close to Rose/Westbrook/Paul).

I know it was only one game, but Monta looked like he's figured some stuff out last night.

Howard showed some quality post moves as well. At least up to the 4th quarter.

Good work. People might have thought I was exaggerating. Is that not the weakest, most desperate move you've ever seen?

The rockets defense is atrocious. Last night was a fun game and they move the ball really well, but goodness the d is bad.

Lin has been playing a lot better. Jones is taking the power forward job easily.

But no defense still.

I did find that surprising. But I guess outside of Howard they don't exactly have a team full of stoppers. Either McHale isn't really focusing on any kind of defensive game plan or they just haven't figured out how to execute it yet. They need to figure that out or they're going to have a very short playoff run.

Also that one shot by Dirk that hit the front of the rim dead square and somehow popped up, bounced on top of the rim and fell in was classic Nowitzki. Man, what a touch that guy has.

I still can't believe they blew that game. Perfect through 3 quarters and pummeled in the 4th. And Dwight shot something ridiculous from FG/FT last night, making most of his shots.

I'm a big fan of Lin coming off the bench to spell Bev. Much more productive when rested.
