*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (5 Viewers)

Marc Gasol has apparently torn his MCL.

They weren't looking so hot to begin with (13th in the league in DR, down from 2nd), but Gasol being out for the year is going to KO them from the playoffs.
They're saying 10 weeks, not for the season. Who knows. 10 weeks probably puts them out of the playoffs, so at that point, they may be better off losing and getting a top 15 pick in this loaded draft.

Lin and Asik and a 1 for Rose and boozer.
If it's an ACL tear, Rose will have zero trade value.
Even with an ACL tear Chicago does not consider that trade.
Of course they would. It would allow them to rebuild after next year and rid themselves of Rose's contract. (I'm ignoring the fact that the trade doesn't work under salary cap rules.)

But this is stupid. No team would take on Rose's contract.

Crummy night for injuries. I'll be particularly bummed if Marc Gasol is out for a while. I really enjoy watching that guy play.

Lin has no value. Asik has a bit. Most teams would take a chance on Rose's contract. He's 25 and a former mvp.

Kofous started for the number 3 seed last year, hes a legit center, I wouldn't count them out yet.

CHA will take it, but only if you'll give them back that pick.

Asik's sulking has declined his value some. Lin has actually played well the last few weeks; the sixth man role is suiting him well. He's shooting over 50% from the field and 41% from deep. Not to say he has a lot of value because of his contract, but as was detailed on grantland the other day he's basically settled in as the 15th - 20th best pg in the league and a good not great player for his role.

If Lin has stabilized into something like the 15th to 20th best point guard
You missed a key word there. That's a pretty bad article. The guy should know that using a 10 game sample from Lin is pretty foolish.

That's true. But his most recent few games is encouraging. 15/5 off the bench with quality shooting (which you have to admit he has been displaying - his three point shot is a lot better this season) makes him a quality player. Yes he needs to keep it up. Yes it is a small sample. But can you agree that he looks substantially better in terms of performance and "fit" this year compared to last?

Sure. But you could point to a stretch last December or in February and say the same thing. He's a streaky player. If he maintains this level of play all year then yes, he'll be much improved and a quality player. Call me sceptical though.

SGs for the Eastern conference All-Star team:

Wade

Afflalo

DeRozan

:X
How does Lance Stephenson not make that?
13 PPG from a SG doesn't get you onto the all-star team.
Stephenson just notched his second triple double of the season the other night plus his team is arguably the best in the East.

He'd probably get my vote. Still don't think it gets him on an all-star team.

Rose likely out until at least the All Star game, gotta think Chicago will take it's time with him, could see them delaying it longer but if he doesn't get going by March, the excuse lat year was the playoffs are not the right time to come off an injury. The East if it wasn't already is now a 2 horse race.

I will say though that a team like the Brooklyn Nets who have come out slow, they are built more for the playoffs. They are old, won't have back to back nights. They stink at the moment but so does the East and they are only a couple games out of 1st in their division.

Lin and Asik and a 1 for Rose and boozer.
So what would Houston do until 2017 when Rose finally decides he's ready to play again?
Beverly and Canaan at pg. solves the power forward issue for Houston.
It's already solved. Perfect fit. Doesn't need the ball. Doesn't clog the lane. Can hit outside jumpers. For a 21 year old, there's not a whole lot he doesn't do well already. They aren't getting anyone for Asik that is a better fit or has Jones's upside.

And didn't cost them an asinine 4 year $56 million deal for a guy that hasn't improved his game since entering the league. Given the dough they're paying Dwight/Harden/Lin/Asikwhomever, Jones's contract for the next 3 years is invaluable. If I don't get want I want, I keep Asik if I'm the Rockets.

Agreed. Jones may get picked on in the playoffs, but he's been outstanding so far. I'd start him at PF for the next 60+ games and get whatever they can for Asik.

Adjusting for inflation, is the contract given to Jon Koncak in '89 still considered the worst deal in NBA history?

He made more than Jordan, Magic and Bird. :loco:

Blazers legit. Still think they need to improve bench (more) even when CJ McCollum returns.Another backup big would serve them well. Meyers Leonard doesn't belong on an NBA floor anytime soon. Talent wise he should have been a 4 year college player. (Was stunned to see him on an NBA floor last year after watching him at Illinois)

Aldridge and Lopez both terrific with help defense down low. Warriors simply couldnt finish at the hoop.

Pretty impressive win, even with Iguodala out.

I was waiting to hear the diagnosis before responding to this. It's not as bad as an ACL tear, of course, but my concern is it's just going to be one injury after another for Rose. With 3 years and $60 million on his contract, he's being paid to be a top 10 player but I think it's very unlikely he'll return to being that.

I doubt "most" teams would want Rose at $20 million a year. In fact, if a salary dump opportunity existed, the Bulls should take it. For Abe's interest, I'd accept a simpler offer that fits within the cap rules: Rose for Asik and Lin. I'd then try to trade Asik on another team, maybe for an expiring and a future pick, if I could get it.

Still shocking as to how bad the East is this year so far with only 4 teams above .500 and now with Rose gone from the Bulls it could hit 3 very soon.

Meanwhile the West is freaking loaded.Almost not fair a team will have to get through all those tough teams while the East should be pretty easy for the Heat and Pacers(that series,if it does happen, will be great though) to advance.

If players are not receptive to defined roles on the Nets, they are not making the playoffs. Brook Lopez needs to be option # 1 when he comes back. I think Kidd is in way over his head, here.

Why hire Kidd to take over such an experienced team?
Really bizarre move.

The talent on the team is better than the record, but the players definitely need to embrace defined roles. The other question is whether Kidd is defining the roles or not.
