Pierce, KG and Terry are old and slow. Johnson seems to have hit a wall last year and is no longer the overrated player he was earlier in his career... plus he's getting up there. They should be better than their record is but they aren't much more than a .500 team. And yeah, Kidd was a horrible choice for coach.

right now????The moment that was mentioned I was like no way is that working. It's not like he is taking over a very young team. Most guys on Brooklyn are his contemporaries. He tries to give them some wisdom and they're like no that doesn't work we beat you when you did that.

Yeah, he looked completely done when I saw him in person a couple of weeks ago. Really a sad sight for me, given that he was probably my favorite player in the league for much of his career.

Pierce looked similarly washed up, but I read he's been nursing some injuries. Maybe he will snap out of it once he gets healed up.

 
Wow Nets are 3-10 and one of their wins was on a game winning layup at the buzzer. And its not like they are getting heartbreaking losses either, they are just getting destroyed by bad teams routinely.

This team needs Deron and Brook badly, Garnett and Pierce look like additional pieces at best, they cant carry squat.

Pierce looks fine even though the team sucks now, but KG really looks bad, on offense and defense.

Kidd has no idea what he is doing out there, never makes adjustments, shows zero emotion and always has a goofy smile after games. His post game press conferences are always the same, he always says how poorly they are playing and taking all the blame, it means nothing when you take the blame every freaking game and things dont change.

The injuries certainly haven't helped the cause, but it seems pretty clear this was too big a risk to take. Crazy expensive team with a bunch of established vets, some with age really starting to take it's toll.

This job screamed for a vet coach to put it all together, and the Nets clearly opted for the route of getting a big name no matter the qualifications

The hire was made before the Pierce/Garnett trade, but a trade of that nature certainly had to be somewhat predictable when the hire was made. Serving a rookie coach up to Deron Williams and Joe Johnson would've likely been a terrible idea even without the trade.

In hindsight, making Frank the coach and Kidd his "Assistant Head Coach In Waiting" type would have made more sense.

Celtivs have 2014 2016 2018 1st round picks of the Nets. However, I believe ATL is swapping with NJ this year so Celts get the worst of those 2 picks. Celtics also have the option to swap with BRK in 2017.

Brooklyn will convey the less favorable of its 2014 1st round pick and Atlanta's 2014 1st round pick to Boston (via Atlanta's right to swap for Brooklyn) [Atlanta-Brooklyn, 7/11/2012 and then Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

 
So they have a 2015 first round pick, and the worse of their own and BOS in 2017. No pick in 2014, 2016, or 2018.

Good grief. 50 games in three years for the former MVP. I imagine they have insurance for the financial portion of the contract, but it sucks for a team that has the right pieces in place to be really good keeps felled by injuries.

 
So the time line for a meniscus tear is 2.5-4 months but Rose is down for the season, earliest he would be back is start of next year? Wow

How come other players bounce back quicker like Westbrook in OKC from his injury? Kobe about ready to return. These guys are not missing entire seasons or years.

Not picking on Rose but this is a franchise changer IMO. They have to start making other plans as an organization. Maybe time to trade Luol Deng.

Even if you set aside the fact that every player and every injury is different, this comparison still makes no sense b/c if Westbrook or Kobe had their injuries today they probably wouldn't play again this year since they both took over 5 months to recover.

Rose is obviously no Adrian Peterson, but few guys are. Whether biological or due to his style of play, he's prone to injuries. Doesn't seem controversial or even unusual- take it from someone whose team gave Gilbert Arenas a $111 million contract.

Timeline depends on how you get it treated it seems. If they cut off the part that's torn you can come back quicker. But now you're missing more cartilage and have concerns with degenerative knee conditions. More conservative approach is to reattach it and wait for it to heal, which is a really slow process since there's almost no blood flow there. Sounds like he went conservative to preserve his long term career better, much like he did with the ACL return.

Would be nicer if the rest of the team sucked more without him and we ended up with a Robinson/Duncan situation. Unfortunately it just dumps us to the worst spot to be in in the NBA - part of the middle tier.

But now you're missing more cartilage and have concerns with degenerative knee conditions. More conservative approach is to reattach it and wait for it to heal, which is a really slow process since there's almost no blood flow there. Sounds like he went conservative to preserve his long term career better, much like he did with the ACL return.

Kind of a rock and a hard place - they were the 5 seed and won 45 games last year without him. No, they aren't winning the East without Rose but how do you tell your fans that you're blowing up the team since you can't count on him to stay healthy? That said, they absolutely should use this as a reason to unload Boozer if at all possible. How about...

I'm selfish TF, basketball has become my clear #2 sport and lately it is closing the gap on the NFL for me. I don't think I'll ever say it is my favorite but I like to watch good games as much as possible. Meaning there are 8-10 teams in the NBA that IMO are really good and when those 10 are playing each other on different nights, I want to tune in. Rose being down takes away another one of those teams so it just is selfish reasons I want to see him on the court. I love watching the guy play and I was hoping Chicago could get a few more pieces around him. Now I think they better start finding a Plan B.

Correct.

Cutting it out seems to benefit the team and fans - what happens to Derrick's knee 10 years from now isn't a great concern, who knows if he'll even be any good anymore. But from Derrick's perspective it's better to be cautious especially since you get paid the same either way. If he's on a contract year he certainly might feel differently.

BTW Dr J, just saw the documentary on what I assume is a hero of yours, amazing story and I never knew the whole story. I rooted for him and was happy when he won in 1983 with the 76ers but I didn't know the history of the ABA all that much, just thought it was like the USFL. I always respected him but I got an even deeper appreciation for what he did in the game of basketball. It's on Youtube for free in HD if anyone has not seen it yet. Well worth an hour+ of your time.

Since he's an UFA after the season, I don't think he's worth all that much on the trade market. Certainly the Bulls would trade him if a good offer came in.

The plan going into this season was to give the core one last year. I think it's very unlikely Deng re-signs. That way they'll be under the luxury tax threshhold next year. Maybe their stashed Euro, Nikola Mirotic, comes over next year but other than that they'll likely be in money saving mode. Bulls will have to rebuild to be a contender again. They could also amnesty Boozer but I personally think they hang on to him so they don't have to pay him to play for another team.

I hear you- although IMO the Bulls were never at the top of the watchability list anyway. In the span of Rose's two injuries we've gotten the emergence of the Warriors, probably the most fun team in the league, so I figure it all balances out.

BTW Dr J, just saw the documentary on what I assume is a hero of yours, amazing story and I never knew the whole story. I rooted for him and was happy when he won in 1983 with the 76ers but I didn't know the history of the ABA all that much, just thought it was like the USFL.
