Woj put up a LeBron update a couple hours ago. Link
Unreal that he might #### all over Cleveland yet again
He literally hasn't said a word about where he'll play next year, nor has he authorized anyone to say a word on his behalf, and no decent NBA reporter (Woj, Stein, Windhorst if it's LeBron) has said it's been decided. Cleveland's sports fans are doing this to themselves by believing shoddy unsourced stories and hilarious stuff like the cupcake store report and the web site colors thing.

They might all turn out to be true, but if they're not that's not really LeBron's fault.

Also these latest reports like the stuff on the Woj piece are pretty clearly being put out there by the Cavs probably to pressure him into a commitment (or maybe just because someone is gossipy). Can't put that on LeBron either.
At a minimum he does deserve some blame for being so slow in making a decision. Particularly the anxiety he's creating for his fellow NBA free agents that are waiting in limbo.
Yes, the same blame that every other current free agent should get and all FAs in the past who went into day two of free agency without a contract.

I hope they don't get too depressed waiting for their new contracts!

Did you read Woj's post? LeBron's agent isnt representing Lebron? The Cavs decided to trade away players and picks for nothing without ever hearing from Lebron's camp? Give me a break.
Sounds like ineptitude in Cleveland to me. Why finalize that deal before an actual offer is accepted verbally?

I can count the number of players "waiting in limbo" on one hand, they're all down to two teams, they pretty much know what they're getting paid next year, and training camp is still to months away. Let's not act like this is some travesty. Guys get moved team to team on zero notice all the time.

As for everyone else (fans and whatnot), he's got no obligation to make a decision simply because they're curious and impatient.

Why can't he just do what he wants and make the choice he feels is right when he is ready?

It's all the fault of that damn Chandler Parsons.

Without that greedy turncoat, LeBron's timeline wouldn't be a problem for anyone.

Clearly, he doesn't know what La Famille is all about.

Melo has to be just pissed right now. LeBron getting all this attention while Melo is doing the exact same thing and getting nothing. Love it.

Huh? LeBron was in Vegas for his camp with Wade and flew back to Miami where both were living before the camp. Woj turned that into Wade closing the deal on LeBron for Miami. I'm sorry, but you are reading into it as much as Woj is trying to make a story out of it. Sounds like two guys on a business trip just flew home after said business trip. I am sure Wade has been talking to LeBron the whole time or maybe not. If Wade is staying in Miami, I'm pretty sure he has wanted LeBron to stay the whole time.

As said above, this whole thing is freaking silly. LeBron has said nothing, so the conjecture has been great. Oh, he's moving some cars, he must be going to Cleveland.

And yes, the Cavs would absolutely trade away players without having a 100% commitment. They are courting James, they want him to come back and they are clearing the deck for him to land and if you don't think that city/team would do that for a 50/50 shot at him coming back you are missing the boat.

Lebron's camp could have squashed Cleveland rumors at any point. If he doesn't go to Cleveland he is pathetic.
Assume he was (and maybe still is) seriously considering Cleveland, which even trustworthy guys have reported.

What does he put out there to squash the rumors? How does he do it without doing to Heat fans exactly what you (wrongly) think he's doing to Cavs fans?

So Lebron didn't authorize Paul to speak with

the Cavs?
He didn't authorize Paul to speak publicly. If someone in the Cavs organization chose to

share details of negotiations with reporters and that got people's hopes up it's on the Cavs, not LeBron or his agent.
If Paul has been pushing for Lebron to go to Cleveland for months how do you know he didn't leak it to the media?

Obviously not knowing all the details, but anyone around here who gets bent about this really only has themselves to blame.
Exactly. I have no idea which way he will go, but it is amazing that James is being criticized for dragging this out into, gasp, day 2 of free agency. It isn't like he is jumping ship to San Antonio or OKC to go to the best teams and ensure he wins a ring. He is picking between where he is now and his previous team. Amazingly, he actually wants to think through his options. Crazy that he should be allowed to do that.

Either way he picks, he will be roundly criticized. He is either going to be the guy who spurned his hometown again or the guy who spurned his family in Miami who got his rings for him. I am sure Woj and the other folks in the Media have their stories all set "LeBron bails on _____" just waiting to type in the choice.

My mother is in her 80's. She lives in rural Iowa, does not own a television, and her favorite basketball player is "that Michael Johnson." (She means Jordan.)

She knows Cleveland fans are worked up into a lather over the prospect of Lebron going back home. This is not an exaggeration. She heard it on the radio. She thinks it's "nice."

If she knows this, we can be fairly confident Lebron does too. It would have taken no more than a whisper of an officially sanctioned rumor from a friend of his agent to quash this BS days ago if he intended to stay in Miami, and nobody would have blamed him a bit. But by now, with the media and the public having raged on, staged stakeouts, and turned the entire greater Cleveland area into Lebronfest 2014 - The Return of the King for the last five days...with the Cleveland Cavaliers having gone through all sorts of cap and roster gymnastics in ways that only make sense if we assume they've been prompted by the James camp...I think we can confidently say that it is Lebron's camp's clear intent to give Cleveland hope.

Now, the intent may very well (and justifiably) be to take a massive and public dump all over the head of Dan Gilbert, but it's gone on long and publicly enough that it's going to get all over the public that was ready to love him all over again, too.

I think Lebron either goes home to Cleveland, or has to just turn full-on heel at this point, because I think by now he's earned any hatred coming his way if he screws those poor shmucks over in humiliatingly public fashion again. It's way too late to play the "all I did was stay quiet about it" card, IMO. That's part of the hazard of being the most visible and media-driving force in all of pro sports.

ETA: If he genuinely is torturing over the decision, and is having honest-to-god heart to hearts with friends and family and God about it, then a tweet to that effect from @KingJames would have more than sufficed.

Actually, if he's going back to MIA, letting it linger until Sunday primetime is probably the kindest thing for CLE fans.

I'd guess that every minute it lingers now makes CLE fans less confident, softening the blow when it does come. Had he announced last night that he was going back to MIA (or anytime the last 36 hours really) , it would've been crushing.

Barring hard news, the peak of CLE confidence has passed.

BTW, this needing to worry about the feelings of poor CLE fans is stupid. Who gives a ####?

Again, no offense, Cavs fans.

I don't know for sure but it would make absolutely no sense. He's his agent, and LeBron is making him rich. Leaking details of negotiations to the media is a good way to get fired and lose all that money, and I don't see any benefit whatsoever to him leaking it anyway.

You ever think that maybe he is actually weighing all his options?

Do you just hastily make multi-million dollar decisions that affect your life for the next 5 years?

Meanwhile, the days are slipping by racing towards fsu football! All of this lebronwatch14 coverage has my nerves frayed. Can't wait to get back to Jameis coverage. Oh wait. ####.

Of course the letter still impacts lebron. 102.7%

Again, something people around here should have been prepared for. He played the Cavs for 3 years before leaving the first time, quit on the team during the playoffs, then...that. LeBron doing something sleezy because he can would not be new news.

At this point, regardless of what he decides the Cavs front office looks really dumb for doing the Jack deal, not knowing exactly what he would do.

If the Jack deal gave Cleveland a 10% of getting Lebron it was a great deal.

Local news showing footage tanks taking positions around Lebron's residence, and guard units securing the perimeter wiith sand bag walls and razor wire.

I just want the guy to end up in a situation where he's competitive for titles. I think basketball is a lot more interesting when the best player in the universe is competing for titles. I think that window is slamming shut in a hurry in Miami as currently constructed. But maybe there's hope if Wade takes a monumental paycut.

And I don't actually mind the idea of Lebron as a full blown heel. Not sure it would be good for his brand, tho. :oldunsure:

Sheridan reporting that mike miller would go to the cavs for the minimum should tell you everything you need to know about his reporting.

:goodposting:

Amazing to think that he can't actually think about what is best for him. If he makes a bad call, he could end up losing millions of dollars (i.e. Wiggins ends up a bust or Wade blows out a knee, etc.). It amazes me and disturbs me that people are already pissed about a decision that hasn't even been made. A week or so ago everyone thought he was staying in Miami, now he will be roundly criticized if he doesn't go to Cleveland. Seems like the fans in Cleveland and the folks that hate him already have been reading all the articles and tweets and made up their minds without a single word from the guy actually making the decision. Again, some of the reactions disturb me.

Nothing wrong with a contingent deal. It isn't like the available cap $ can go to another good player. The russian guy is a wild card, but Zeller is likely a good (cheap) role player and then there's the future 1. All to free up cap space that won't go to another good player? That's the furthest thing from a great deal.

The ones in the Woj article from this morning.
Gotcha thanks

Really? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it can do.

Wade has been convinced to retire and the Heat will take care of him.

It's now LeBron/Bosh/Melo to the Heat.

/Todem

Actually, the longer this is dragging out the more I think LeBron intended to go back to Cleveland but is now leaning back to MIA.

McBob = Championships!

And I expect him to go back to Miami anyway because you expect bad news when you are from Cleveland.

On to trying to sign Ariza wheeeee!

Seems rather silly to think that Lebron could be serious about returning to Cleveland and that news wouldn't get out in today's environment. Almost doesn't matter where the leaks came from although I would be willing to bet both sides have been feeding the media.

When I heard that Sheridan interview I thought he sounded like a guy trying really, really hard to project confidence.

I think he's full of #### and just taking a monster gamble with his career.
