*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (4 Viewers)

Wade opted out of 2 years 41 million that was left on his deal. What is Miami going to do with him now?

On the open market Wade would not get half of that amount at his age with bad knees. Right now Wade is a 7-8 million dollar role type player.
Give him 4/$55-$60, offer Bosh as much money as they can, see who else they can bring in, get rejected by Bosh, and then hope the ping pong balls bounce their way.

$41.8MM down the tubes for Dwayne Wade.
I suspect he'll still be able to find work.
Not for $41.8 MM, not in two years.
He'll probably make more money now that the Heat don't have any salary cap problems.
I'll take action on that if you want it. He's not a max player anymore.
What action? Not saying he is a max player. Of course he left money on the table in the immediate future but the expectation was that he'd make it back over the course of his contract. More years making more than he is worth in 3-4 years.
If he plays 4 years, he could have had $41.8 MM over two years plus whatever he could have gotten for the next 2. I still contend that's more than he would get on a 4 year deal today.
The 41.8 or what he'd get over the next 2? Odds are that he probably cost himself some money. Sure, but most likely only a few million b/c in 2 years, Wade is likely worth much less than his 4 year contract now. ETA: And my point about making more money was that in relation to what he would have made with LeBron versus what he can make now.

And as an aside, a few million doesn't move the needle for Wade after his sneaker deal.

Source close to situation says Kevin Love indeed "intrigued" by idea of being dealt to Cavs and would commit long there if traded there

Agree a lot with what Koya and John Bender posted a few pages back. This move might or might not be the best "right this second NBA success" move for Lebron ... but it's definitely the best move for his overall "brand" & personal legacy -- which is potentially bigger than chances at titles, loyalties to other players, etc.

so lebron to cleveland means bosh to houston means parsons to dallas, means carmelo to ny?
Houston will sign Bosh then match Parsons (after they dump Lin, Asik, and whatever else)
Troy Daniels as backup PG isn't exactly my idea of fun. WHY CAN"T WE ASTTRACT ANY FGOOD PLATYERS?

A few million moves the needle for everyone at least emotionally. The bottom line is it cost him money. He can say it's good or whatever, but the bottom line is this did hurt Wade to the tune of millions of dollars.

He is staring a potential billion dollar sneaker deal. He will get 4/40+ and he did it for the potential to play with LeBron and win a few titles. Might have hurt a bit but seems like a fairly calculated move to me.

Who is the Cleveland coach? Is he any good, or is he just holding the seat warm for Calipari to take over in 2015?
bump
David Blatt, former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach. Nobody knows anything about him, really. I loved the move just because it was outside the box, but I'd never heard of him until he was hired. Woj likes him:

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA · 32m

David Blatt will be tremendous coach for LeBron James, an innovative, creative mind. He'll learn a lot from ways Erik Spoelstra used him.

Somebody put Todem on suicide watch...
eleventy billion percent he reneges and signs in Miami.
Get your LeBron jersey and stop being bitter. Enjoy it. What is wrong with you?
Todems been thumping his chest in here for weeks. He's gonna take a little razzing, and take it well I'd guess. Are you his lawyer or do you do his laundry or something? Relax
What are you talking about? Mac is a Cleveland guy and I've seen him be not so happy in the Browns thread and with LeBron. Mac go out and buy yourself a Manziel and LeBron jersey.

Bronziel!

(This meme is totally coming.)

Heat band-wagoners are officially leaving...the Heat twitter account has lost nearly 300,000 followers since LeBron's announcement.

Very good coach, unproven at this level.
LeBron made a video coordinator the 2nd most tenured coach in the entire league and he got Mike Brown a job with the Lakers.

The Blatt fella will probably work out fine.
I'm not worried in the slightest.

I'm pretty sure I could become "proven" at the NBA level fairly fast with Lebron as my alpha, just using a stick to draw plays up in the dirt, using whatever the NBA equivalent of "everybody go deep" is. Just doing my best to answer the question.

Didn't run through any trade machines but who says no:

Philly Gets : Wiggins

Cleveland Gets : Love

Minnesota Gets : Thad Young, Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, Dario Saric, 1st from Cleveland, 1st from Philly (from Lin trade - which should come soon).

Lost quietly in all of this was Tyronne Lue signing on as assistant to the HC after losing to Blatt. Don't see that happen often, if ever. Lue and James are good friends. Lue has also gained alot of respect in coaching circles, while still not ever being a HC.

Not that anyone cares now, but I wonder if the Pelicans will be able to get away with retaining both Ryan Anderson and Austin Rivers while still getting Asik. Probably not, though ... the salary-matching demands of NBA trades are a mother.

Oh, I know. I didn't mean that the way it sounded.

Dan Gilbert ‏@cavsdan 36m

My 8-year-old: "Daddy, does this mean I can finally wear my Lebron jersey, again?"...Yes it does, son. Yes it does!
the worst part of this, imo, is that worthless putz Gilbert does not have to feel the consequences of his childish actions

while i do understand that punishing him would unnecessarily punish the Cavs fans, i still wanted him to get his. Instead he shot his mouth off acted like a ####### and still gets his prize back.

Cleveland says no after they stop laughing

100% sure now.

We would know if he was leaving Miami right now hell we would have known a week ago. Tomorrow they announce his extension along with Wade and Bosh's deals (which were already worked out I am sure).

Here is what I think. Lebron would not string Pat Riley along like this. If Lebron was leaving he would have had the respect to tell Riley weeks ago so he could have made other moves for bigger ticket free agents and be able to field a team. Sorry I just can't imagine James ####s on Riley, Arison, Spo, Bosh, and Wade and the city of Miami like that after the last 4 years. Cleveland may think he #### on them…but he gave them 7 years and that owner is a putz.
oof.

It's almost like it pays to be a billionaire.

I don't understand why you'd trade the next big thing in Wiggins for a slightly more nimble Mark Eaton.

And how the hell can that kid's jersey from 4 years ago still fit him? Is he a Benjamin Button?
