*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (7 Viewers)

You're title sucks.
It'll change once Todem passes 3rd grade english.
You're mean Cliff.

Now give me my diploma.

On the Heat front Micky Arison sent out a very classy letter to the fans via Twitter. Confirming what all life long Heat fans already knew. The commitment to excellence will never waiver. The Heat are mulling over bringing back Michael Beasley and are said to be looking at Shawn Marion as well as Sessions and Jordan Crawford. Oden may still be brought back as well.

I think having Beasley at the veterans minimum would be fine. He can potentially give us 8-10 minutes of baskets. He can create his own offense. This will be important when Wade is off the floor. Also the team is very high on James Ennis last years second round pick as a nice swing man off the bench. If he develops that would be huge. If Granger rebounds to some good form he will be a viable another offensive/defensive option off the bench. Lot's of if's but high hopes down here for a successful season. Defined more clearly, it means going to the post season and making some noise and showing some fight after losing the best player in the league. Quite frankly it's about Wade re-establishing himself as the leader of the team (something he will do IMO) and really focusing on his conditioning for the upcoming season. Fans are buzzing about the season though. There is excitement and lot's of positive vibes due to the fact Riley was able to scramble and keep 2/3 of the Big Three and add Deng, and McRoberts. I think those selling Chris Bosh short will find out quickly what he is about now that he will be a huge focal point of the offense again.

Go Heat!!!!!!!

Lakers are working out Michael Beasley. We might have a 2010 Wizards type situation developing here. Only arguably even more fun, because now they are throwing in a sociopath hall of famer at the end of his career into the mix.

Awesome. Has Blatche signed anywhere yet? They really need to sign Blatche. What about Artest? He'd take a one year minimum. Sign'em up!

A lineup of Lin, Swaggy, Artest, Beasley and Blatche would be sooo terribly awesome to watch.

Wouldn't Jack snap? Can you imagine?

Cleveland appears to be the only team the Wolves are talking to about a Love trade, and chances are that Andrew Wiggins is involved, along with Anthony Bennett. But regardless of what names are involved in a potential trade, it does sound like the Cavs will have Kyrie Irving, LeBron James and Kevin Love on the court together at some point this season. If a deal does go down, it's not likely to happen officially until 30 days have passed from the day Wiggins was signed by the Cavs (July 24).

That's nuts. Look, I'll be the first to admit Cousins is a nutcase, but citing his "punching of a wall pad" as evidence of that is absurd. By all accounts he has been a good citizen the last two summers. Not to mention he's 20x the player Plumlee is, and is actually capable of manning up one on one vs. Spain's bigs on both ends, which even Davis can't do.

@FisolaNYDN 2m

I'm hearing Knicks are tentatively scheduled to spend Christmas with the Obamas, John Wall & Paul Pierce.

Relevance! This would be big news for me, both as a Wizards fan as as a Jew who has to celebrate Christmas with his inlaws every year.

This would be the Wizards' first Xmas game since 1982.

Cousins is a waaaaay better player than Plumlee, but I can the justification of Plumelee over Cousins.

Plumelee doesn't need to touch the ball to be effective...he'll grab rebounds and play defense whether he touches the ball on offense or not.

The same can't be said for Cousins, who as an offensive player is also rather inefficient (way too many midrange shots). In the international game spacing is key because teams can play real zones. If Cousins doesn't get 20 touches and he shouldn't with Durant, Harden, Curry, etc... will he play defense still?

That's the question and why I can see Plumlee taking his spot.

Congratulations.

Though the NBA XMas wiki page (there really is a page for everything!) says the Wiz last played in 2008. Not that I have a clue or plan to look it up past a wiki page.

It also says 3 teams are still waiting for their first ever date on Christmas (Hornets, Griz, T-Wolves).

Basketball twitter lied to me!

I don't remember the game, but that makes sense. Peak of the Cleveland "rivalry."

Rebounding isn't an issue. Cousins is one of the best in the league. And I agree if Cousins is pouting about touches, he shouldn't make the team. But there's no evidence of that and in fact all reports I've seen are to the contrary. if Coach K is looking for a pure rebounder/defender, he can do better than Plumlee anyway. This is just homerism, if true.

If the 2008 game is true, it would appear that the nice near half-decade run for the Wiz essentially went all to hell from the minute the NBA scheduled that game.

I bet he doesn't do it. Just way too transparent. My guess is he leaked it to see what kind of response it got to figure out if he could get away with it.

If he does do it, though, American basketball fans will need to find a team to root for. I like the idea of Kentucky temporarily seceding and entering the FIBA tournament with Davis joining Cousins and Wall (because if he's thinking about Plumlee over Cousins you KNOW he'll take Irving over Wall) on a Cal-coached team. Maybe they can get Rose, too.

Kentucky just needs a shooter and that team is a contender.

Maybe they can make it an SEC team, hire Billy D as the assistant and add Parsons and Beal

A Wizards fan! My favorite game of all time was against the Wizards, in 2008. The Cavs had just made a bunch of deadline deals, but the new guys hadn't passed physicals yet, plus we had some injuries, so they picked up a couple of D-leaguers for the game, just to have the minimum.

http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=280222005

I hope this rivalry picks up again.

Kind of excited about this Kentucky F-you team. It'd be fairly deep too.

Wall/Rondo/B.Knight

Bledsoe/Meeks/Lamb

James Young/MKG

A.Davis/Pat-Pat/T.Jones

Boogie/Nazr

If Nazr's not up for it I spotted a big fat Daniel Orton on the Wiz summer league team.
Is Josh Harrellson still in the league?
I have no idea.

I suspect Nerlens Noel would be willing to suit up for a cause as noble as this one.

Harrellson played 30 games for Detroit last year.

Wasn't Employee No. 8 trying to make a comeback recently?

Thinking this may put an end to the Cavs trade for Love. If it is true, I certainly hope it does.

http://nesn.com/2014/07/report-kevin-love-wont-sign-extension-with-any-team-hes-traded-to/
Not surprising. Like I said, no way Love wants to latch himself long term onto a team that Lebron can just bolt from. That'd be dumb. He's pretty much going to want the same Lebron type deal - play year to year with "player options" until the big TV deal hits. Just play this thing out, opt out, and then go all Lebron mode.

He's either trying to help the cavs not have to give up wiggins or he stopped and realized he's been wanting to go to the lakers for the last half decade and Lebron showing up in Cleveland shouldn't change his plan. Regardless, I hope the Wolves hang on to him.

It makes no sense for him to sign an extension. Always been that way. Same thing with LaMarcus Aldridge in Portland.

I don't know about the whole Lakers thing, but it makes sense that he's not going to immediately sign an extension wherever he goes. It's the first shot he'll have to go wherever he wants as a pro and with the way the salary cap keeps going up, long term deals are starting to not make sense for (really good) players anymore.

Kevin Love joining the Cavaliers appears to be imminent, according to ESPN.

We still don't know exactly what the Cavs will give to acquire Love, but the fact that sources are calling a trade a "when, not if" situation points to Love joining the Cavs at some point.
Does EspN not have a fact checker? It isn't likely to happen officially until 30 days have passed? You sure about that?

Wojnarowski non-update on Greg Monroe situation:

Greg Monroe, Detroit is trying to help him with some sign-and-trade possibilities around the league. Monroe doesn't really have a great interest in going back and playing with these Pistons. If they're going to move him in a sign and trade they gotta get value for him. They've got to get back some significant players and some significant talent to compensate for that loss.
This could go on until October when he has to sign the qualifying offer (or an extension). Should be an exciting couple months.

It's gonna happen... They're trying to play hardball, but they're going to ship Wiggins off.
