Okay, I adore Bob Costas, but he looks totally out of place here.

First commerical break and all we've got is a chat with Al Michaels and the new college football poll? WTF are the highlights??

I am sorely lamenting the lack of NFL Primetime, and I know what the poster above means about the lack of highlights. Show the games first! Don't just give the scores and have a ton of interviews at the beginning. Let the games unfold on their own. Arghh...a whole season of this?!

As long as they show highlights, fine with me.

I couldn't care less that Berman's tired shtick and his yuck-yuck yes man Tom Jackson weren't doing highlights.

Do you guys really think Berman and TJ added so much?

yeah... not to mention he bragged about the stupid ring... AGAINtired, played-out fat waste

I'm watching this right now and this is lame. They don't even have music playing during what little highlights they show (unless you consider Collinsworth and Sharp talking all the damn time music). :bag:

Why couldn't Bettis' fumble be returned for a TD by the Colts?
Why couldn't Nick Harper's wife wait one more day to stab him in the knee?
Xactly, I have often reflected on the improbability of that - they guy was cut up but gutted it out and played, kudos to him - if he hadn't been injured by that stab wound, though, he may well have put it in the end-zone, is my guess... it made the difference on that long run, I think. He wasn't 100%

Wow they cancelled NFL Primetime? I had no idea...
NBC has the exclusive primetime highlights rights now.
I see...I found a link about it on Wiki...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Primetime

NFL Primetime is a sports television program that aired on ESPN from 1987 until 2005. It used to air every Sunday night during the NFL American football season and it preceded ESPN's coverage of Sunday Night Football. The show was hosted by Chris Berman, with analysis from Tom Jackson. Berman and Jackson recap Sunday afternoon's NFL games with highlights, statistics, and commentary.

Pete Axthelm was a regular from 1987 until his death in 1991. Through the show's history, other co-hosts included Robin Roberts, Bill Pidto, and Stuart Scott. Pidto was often the target of good-natured ribbing by Berman, since Pidto often did recaps of games of little importance. The position of co-host was dropped prior to the start of the 1998 season.

Rather than provide the usual package of scoring highlights, NFL Primetime presented extended highlights which also showed less dramatic plays. This provided context for the greater depth of analysis of each game.

When NBC acquired the rights for Sunday night games, NBC negotiated for exclusive rights for extended highlights during its Football Night in America pregame show. This caused NFL Primetime to be moved from its regular time slot to Monday night at 6 p.m. ET, preceding Monday Night Countdown. Chris Berman and Tom Jackson will not be hosting the show for the 2006 season, ending their 18 year run on the program together. They will instead provide voice-over and analysis to football highlights on the Sunday night edition of SportsCenter at 11 pm EST in a new segment called NFL Blitz. Hosting the new version of the show will be Stuart Scott along with analysts Ron Jaworski and Mike Ditka.
I'm stunned - I thought that show would be untouchable - I thought it was a great presentation.

What is with this NBC Logo Flash then Sundy Night Football flashing over the screen with every replay ... damn it pissed me off during the opener .. but every highlight, every week ...gawd how long did they buy the rights for???

I thought of a perfect TV package

NBC - Monday Night Football

CBS - AFC package

FOX - NFC package

TNT - Sunday Night Football (Turner rocked back in the day).

Wow they cancelled NFL Primetime? I had no idea...
What???? I haven't watched too much TV lately with the kids' activities...but they really cancelled NFL Primetime? That was my favorite show to watch all week (besides the NFL games). Who's brilliant idea was that to cancel it?Oh the humanity!!!!

Maybe they could've whacked off some more into the ruins of the WTC. I kept waiting for the little right-wing #### Al Michaels to plug the RNC campaign movie playing on ABC. He needs another tax cut, after all . . .

I can't believe people still listen to the announcers during televised football.

If you aren't at a sports bar, and the game isn't on the radio...there's always music. I don't remember the last time I had the TV volume on for a football game.

I think at least 80% of the posters on this forum would do as good a job as anyone paid to do the play-by-play or color commentary. You know all the players, you can tell the receiver by a quick flash of the jersey number and most of you can keep track of a receiver's stats in your head. You can calculate the distance of a FG before the announcer gets around to saying it's 4th down. I would also guess a good number of you know the college of the main players, too.

I just care about seeing the game. They can keep all the other garbage. The only show I ever liked was the one with TNT's crawl. But that was for fantasy purposes and I still didn't need the volume for it.
