Oklahoma State’s win over KU yesterday made it the first time a Big XII team went 2-0 against Self in regular season play.

The BracketMatrix gang seems confident Kansas is a 1-seed, but I’m skeptical.  If Purdue wins today, or if UNC/TSTSNBN wins the ACC tournament, IMO Kansas will end up a 2-seed.

Jayhawks have impressive wins on neutral courts and on the road, a factor some previous TSCs have valued a lot.  But this is the worst KU has played at home under Self.
What is the committee supposed to do with the 4 8-10 Big 12 teams? Pretty hard to separate them. OU-OSU on Wednesday should be a play-in game.

This Loyola team is kinda fun. Team makeup of one that could make a surprise sweet 16 run. No tourney experience though.

I love teams with unathletic white guys who get #### done. I'm all in on Loyola. You'll hear this 5000 times over the next week and a half, but they beat Florida at Florida. When Fla was playing well (before they sucked and before they were good again), so they can probably take anyone down on any given Thursday.

That was a fun game. Both squads have playmakers.
Cincy kind of flying under the radar too... they can really make some unexpected noise.

eta just noticed the Bearcats are #4 Kenpom, definitely not flying under that radar

Cincy is notorious for flopping in the tournament.  In my opinion, they don't have the play makers needed to make a deep run...

Two months ago I was certain the streak was coming to an end. IMO this is Self's greatest coaching achievement. How did he survive with only one legit big man? Mitch Lightfoot? Seriously. He just utilized Mitch Lightfoot to win the big 12... again. and again. and again. and again.

Jayhawks have serious talent and experience in the backcourt. Winning in the post season always starts with senior leadership in the backcourt for me. Hoping they make another run.

These things considered... They should be a 2 seed. Damn. I hate saying that.

Think there's a good chance they still end up a 1.  I only see five teams with a shot at the 1's (UVA, Villanova, Xavier, Kansas and Duke).  If Kansas wins the B12 tournament they won't be behind both ACC and both Big East teams

My understanding is that they promised to hold the tourney in NYC as part of the deal to get Rutgers to join the conference, and then as noted above , couldn’t get the arena for the normal dates.

I had another comment about the schedule but my iPad keeps deleting whole sentences as I’m typing so perhaps I’m not meant to say it.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:  I wish that was the case.

The conference did this for NYC exposure (just like why they added Rutgers in the first place) and because the alumni base for pretty much every school is huge here. They want to do an east coast site every 5 years. They'll probably do DC or Brooklyn until the MSG contract opens up again.

Fair enough.  Don't remember where I read/heard it.

That is the #1 reason.  Washington DC was a washout that year.

It's back to Chicago and Indy for the next 4.

I read the same thing, the Commissioner was quoted as saying they made a promise when they brought them into the league to hold the tourney on the East Coast within 5 years.
Difference between wanting to play on the East Coast because it makes sense with two teams there, and with so many B1G alumni bases there, and using an East-coast based B1G tournament as some kind of carrot to entice Rutgers to join the conference. Again, wish it was the case, but Rutgers went from getting under $10MM in the annually in an imploding conference to being guaranteed $30+ million/yr in a few years with $50+ million soon to follow. It was the most amazing lifeline the school has ever or will ever receive.

Yeah that's fairly hilarious. Based on the state of their teams, Rutgers should be in the MAAC. If the Big ten called tomorrow and told them they don't get any home games for the next 2 years they'd probably just suck it up and deal with it.

The idea that they had to be provided with an incentive to join the conference (beyond the obvious financial benefits) is hysterical

Considering that Jim Delaney is the B1G commissioner, and the unremarkable things he has done with this conference during his tenure, this isn’t too far fetched TBH.

Dude is the biggest joke there is.

I'd love you to show your work on this one that trumps the explosion in TV revenue per school as well as the establishment of by far the most successful conference network.

“I asked the legendary Bill Raftery today if he's ever thought about joining Twitter. His outstanding response: “No, and I’ll tell you why -- because at 11:30 at night when I’ve had my 10th drink, I’m liable to say something that will cost me my job.””

God I rove heem.

Also, while 0-19 can’t be excused, the mediocre or worse performances of Syracuse and Pitt in the ACC kinda make me think the old big east was always just the junior league.

Those Georgetown Syracuse games had more pros than pretty much any other game at the time.  80s Big East was awesome.

Give me a break. 4 years of sanctions for Cuse. Got to a final 4 right in the middle of it. Haven't been able to develop guys like other programs. Sanctions now over, next year Cuse back to top NCAA seed. Bazely, Carey, Elijah Hughes coming in. If Battle stays team is potential juggernaut.

You're wrong about Stallings too. Good coach who came into very difficult situation.

That 10 seed run by Syracuse was pretty amazing...Boheim deserves a lot of credit for that.

Overrated program. In over its head now. Nowhere near the UNC/Duke level. It happened.

In the few years before the sanctions got to Final 4, elite 8 and probably out best team lost in Sweet 16 to Butler that year they almost won, a game where we trailed all game, got the lead with 3 to go and crazy stuff happened. "Junior league"...laughable post.

Sitting right on the bubble. Everybody plays freshman now.
Sure, the top-top guys play but we have guys who shouldn't be getting any minutes who get all of the minutes. Guys like Dolezaj, Moyer, Sidibe wouldn't sniff the floor for most programs. No choice but to play them because of sanctions. Some bad luck with guys leaving early who nobody thought would ever leave early too. Put any school who doesn't get 3 top 10 recruits a year through the sanctions we've had and they'd be dead. Boeheim went to final four and on bubble other years. Playing with skeleton crew out there. A walk-on got time tonight because Battle fouled out. We have 2 scholarship players who are guards. Lost 4 games in final possession, win a few of those games and Jimmy in NCoY discussion. It's like you've never watched sports before.

You guys are basically NC State now. Sad state of affairs — I remember when Syracuse was great*

*maybe, as it turns out they may have been pretty much beating up the minor league

Total bull####. They had a run as good as any team in the country in those years before the sanctions. If FSU or NC State had 4 years of scholarship restrictions they wouldn't have a winning season for the length of the sanctions and beyond. FSU hoops had one decent team, the Sura-Cassell-Ward team, other than that the program has been a bigger joke than Burt Reynolds' toupee. I'm ashamed to be in the same conference.

FSU hoops: "We've been to the Sweet 16 ONCE in 25 years. What an embarrassment we are." Can't believe America's team is getting trash talked by an FSU hoops guy. :lmao:

Fsu basketball is certainly more competitive than Syracuse football. And fsu football has been way more dominant than Syracuse basketball. :own3d:

We’ve been in the big leagues the whole time though. Obviously would be easier to get higher seeds if we were in the big east.

Like clockwork. Whatabout....whatabout...football though? FSU football, now there's a clean program. What a disgrace.

I’m just saying that we obviously aren’t a basketball school. Syracuse is...and is now completely mediocre at it.
