YES! Stephen A. Smith is on set!!!

:gunshot:
My God just turned this on and saw that. Is this going to be a regular occurrence?
Right on the heels of having the Dook game on mute because of Vitale.

ESPN is doing a bang-up job of hiring the most irritating people on the face of the earth:

- Smith

- Vitale

- Berman

- Cowturd

- Ray Lewis

- Bayless

- Neil Everett (excuse me.... NEIL EVERETT!!!!)

He shouts everything for no particular reason, after all.

Whitlock?

UK's next three games are at home against Boston University, Montana State and Texas-Arlington. :topcat:

Those teams should arrange some unforeseen travel mishaps.

Holy balls this defense
I was expecting UK to be able to run and jump everywhere. I was not expecting them to be this smart and relentless on defense. And it's not just contesting shots; UK's bigs are doing a great job cutting off penetration and passing lanes.

It would be easy to just run and gun with this much talent and give zero ####s on defense. If this is representative of what their defensive effort will be all season, they are going to win every game by double digits.

Feels like this should be a 30-point lead. KU is fortunate to be this close.

BTW, it's only their second game and I'm already sick of hearing "White platoon" and "Blue platoon."

I was hoping to see more of Alexander and Oubre. But all the foul calls against them were good calls. Alexander's second foul in particular was a boneheaded moving screen that begged for a whistle.

I have absolutely no idea who the best player on this team is...
The guy I would want on my team most is Towns. But there are 9-10 guys on UK's roster who would be the best player on the majority of power conference teams.
I can agree with this...I like Lyles a lot as well. WCS might be my choice though.
The guy with the highest pro ceiling might be Aaron Harrison. Great size for an NBA SG, deep shooting range, moves real well without the ball.

What's interesting is the last 3-4 minutes of the first half should be a stretch where the platoon system reaps big rewards. And that was when UK let KU back in the game.

Other stretch to check is the 12:00-8:00 stretch of of the second half. That's when Self tries to get away with resting the guys who will finish the game.

Alexander obviously has potential, but he has no idea how to play when he isn't the biggest and best guy on the court. (which is obviously the case tonight). Getting smothered every time he goes up for a shot and doing absolutely no pre-work on defense (since he assumes he'll be able to stop anyone who catches it on him). He's letting Towns catch it where ever he wants and he's paying the price.

This is really an incredibly tough matchup for Kansas (and anyone for that matter). A guy like Ellis gets totally neutralized by UK's length and athleticism. As skilled as he is, he can't score against 3 guys who each have 2-3 inches on him and are natural shot blockers.

Drat. Ulis is exactly the player I was worried he would be. Blinding fast, outstanding distributor, nonstop motor, and too short to be early entry. He's going to provide continuity for UK for 3-4 years at a valuable position.

:goodposting: They really dodged a bullet when Mudiay chose SMU. (even before he ditched them for China). Ullis is a great fit on this roster.

I wonder if Calipari is going to figure out that when his 10 guys are all playing 16-24 minutes, the foul trouble standards aren't as tight.

Probably not going to matter, except maybe in a rowdy conference roadie with the refs influenced by the crowd. But there's no need to bench a guy with 2 fouls in the first half if he's only going to play 24 minutes, tops. Probably shouldn't sub out for foul trouble at all.

He let someone (Towns maybe) play with two against Buffalo. I think it matters who get the fouls - they are much deeper in the front court.

Well, if this humbles the Jayhawks and they respond by working harder in practice and the weight room, it's worth going through this tonight.

Hopeful Graham can overtake Mason for the starting PG job. Mason is a bulldog and his defense is improved, but his offensive style is better suited to come off the bench and attack the rim against tired starters or bench players.

Selden's shot selection could have been better, but UK's defense is to blame for some of that. Really happy he didn't turn pro with Wiggins and Embiid. This team needs him.

Oubre hasn't come close to living up to the hype. But it's all good 'cause I loves me some Svi. I expected Svi to have all the offensive tools and court vision he's shown, but he's much farther along defensively than I expected.

Was worried Ellis was going to get swallowed up whole by UK's bigs. I hope his perimeter offense was a temporary adjustment to the situation, and not an ongoing audition NBA SF audition. He's so much better posting up.

Traylor and Lucas will look big and strong against most college teams. But not their opponent tonight.

Not ready to shut the ceiling on Alexander. Embiid looked lost last November, too.

Wow. That Kentucky team is impressive. They are at a level above everyone else. They didn't even play great today and made Kansas look foolish. It's going to be scary as they get more confidence and rhythm as the season progresses. Just gradual improvement on this team and no one in the country could beat them.

The undefeated talk earlier isn't shtick. This team is more talented than the Augmon, LJ, Hunt, Anthony UNLV Rebs.
If they consistently bring the defensive intensity they had tonight, they won't lose.

They play some big names in December: UNC in Lexington, UCLA in Chicago, Louisville at Louisville.

SEC basketball isn't the torture chamber SEC football is. Toughest conference game will probably be Florida in Gainesville.

Only other chance would be some SEC roadie when they don't feel like playing hard on D and aren't hitting outside shots, but the opponent would still need to be someone like Alabama or better.

KU made 11 shots from the floor.

And had 11 shots blocked.

The meltdown at Phog.net is outstanding. Self's offensive system is too rigid, can't adjust to his own talent... no chance KU can win the Big XII this year... worst game of the Self era.. Ashley Judd is hotter than Olivia Wilde.. pics of bricks...
