Great tournament. Shame this game sucked but oh well. Congrats to UConn.

'grats Huskies fans. Amazing run. I watched these guys several times this season, and aside from Napier they looked like just another team. Ollie has to be on top of the world.

Congrats to UConn but I don't feel like they are the best team in the country. It just worked out that way. Still 5 or 6 teams on about the same level.
You can say that almost every year. Not every year does Louisville as the number 1 seed win the tourney.

Okay: Congrats to both teams. Well-played, well done. This goes out to all teams that deserved a shot, a chance. Good work. But, besides from Tim, the worst comment in thread goes to...

RN, what happened to Cal with a minute and-a-half to go? That was awful.

eta* Love your comments, that was a bad one. We just sat on the ball for a minute and a half. Who lets that happen?

I feel like the point of a sports season is to build during the year and peak at the end. Give UConn their props.

Kentucky as well.

Definitely the least impressive champ I can ever remember. I can't even think of who would be next. Dentist must be going nuts right now.

With all the close games, so many teams were so close. Probably why the tourney was fun to watch, a couple baskets here and there were the difference. UK almost lost 3 games in a row and UConn needed OT to get by round 1.

Lol at caliparis coaching in that last minute
I don't know a lot about him but from what I read he is a great coach because of his recruiting but as far as coaching in game he is average to above average, but I don't know enough about him to know if this is true.

What is he supposed to do? Foul a team shooting 90% in the tourney and 100% in this game?

Take a step back and think about that before you laugh.
Maybe trap or try to steal the ball? they let them run the clock down the last 3 possesions with no pressure at all. And there is no 4 pt play in basketball, you can't let them run the clock down to 25 seconds down 4. You could be down 6 or 7, and game is over. Even down 4 with 25 seconds left, you are pretty much dead against a 80%+ FT shooting team.

Uconn 3 years ago over Butler was equally (if not worse) unimpressive as far as a poorly played titled game, but I'll take it.

That makes no sense to me. They just beat MSU, Florida and Kentucky, That is one of the favorites to win the tourney even as a 4 seed, the #1 seed overall and the team that was pre-season #1 and just ran through Wichita State, Louisville, Michigan and Wisconsin.

So, if you look at the final AP rankings before the tourney, UConn and UK beat 8 of the top 12 teams. If you look at their seeds, sure, but if you look at their play in the tourney, you wouldn't say that.

Sorry, but UConn was a good team that got better and beat a UK team playing really well in the last 5.

Every team that wins the tourney goes on a great run and plays some terrific teams. I'm talking about overall season/picture here.

And for their great run (it was), they were just in overtime against a mediocre St. Joe's team a few weeks ago.

If any of Florida, Arizona, Wisconsin or Kentucky play well for a couple more games I don't say that.
Huh? You just named 4 teams that if they won the title you would have said they were the best team in the country but the fact you named 4 teams means there was other teams on their level. So it wouldn't have matter who won this year, you still would find a few teams on their level, pretty much like every other year.

That's making an argument on paper. Any champ is going to beat some good teams. Didn't see dominance of a national champion on the court and they weren't a top contender during the year.

They are just as legit as any other champion, but sometimes the champion is the one who survived not the one who is the undisputed best.

No. Florida and Arizona had long stretches at #1 during the year. If either of them wins they're the best team. Kentucky had the talent and preseason rank so the thought would be they sagged during the regular season but did it when it counted. Wisconsin I put in there because they beat Arizona with a strong performance and if they had won 2 more at that level (it is an "if") I'd see it there too.

And? That is college basketball. Did you watch that game? I watched and St. Joe's couldn't miss. They shot 50% against UConn, the team that held MSU, Florida and UK all under 40%. St. Joe's was playing well and played really well. It happens.

UConn in the tourney was a much better team than during the season, although again, they were a good team. They just didn't match up against Louisville and SMU for whatever reason. Against everyone else, they were 32-3 including beating Florida twice, Kentucky, MSU, Villanova and Iowa State. That isn't a bad team. They weren't dominant and they had flaws and a very good team like Louisville just had their number.

Would rather be in this thread than hearing the idiots on ESPN commenting on the game. Yeah, I'm a gracious winner, terrible loser, and wish flapgreen well.

'09 against MSU was the worst feeling, especially the domination and the home court.

Congrats to the UConn fans. Love 'em. Sadness for the UK fans. Wouldn't know how it feels (har). But thanks for the thread.

Peace,

RA

I see your point, but they were a better team than people realize. I think their problems with Louisville and SMU hid the fact that they were a contender. They beat Florida already and they dominated them on Saturday and if Florida won, people would have called them a great team. Honestly, I thought Louisville and UConn both got bad seeds.

Anyway, I get your point, but this wasn't Villanova back when they won as an 8, where you knew that Georgetown was the better team even after they lost, because Villanova shot out of their mind. I am just going to enjoy title #4 in 15 years.

I never said they were a bad team. What in the hell are you talking about.

I said they were the least impressive champ I can remember. They lost by 33 a few weeks ago and almost got bounced in the first round two games after that. They pulled it together and earned their title but historically they likely will be looked at as a very mediocre champion.

Still a champion though.
