I watched Humphries play 3 games at the u17 world championship last summer. IMO, he is absolutely not a stiff. Hes not an elite pro prospect by any stretch (and I think he'll struggle mightily on d in cal's typical defensive schemes) but he could absolutely be a high quality college player as an upperclassman. Hes pretty skilled in the post and clearly understands the game. Don't see why he couldn't develop into an aaron gray type with a little luck.

That being said, it's a really odd fit from a systems standpoint. If uk continues to recruit the kind of athletes they usually get, he kinda runs the risk of being the big goofy white guy that just gets in the way

I kinda love that he just keeps doing the same stuff and getting caught. He's like a batman villain or something.

they're still waiting for their new NOA and then I'm guessing their miraculously find more "new" violations pushing the day of reckoning out even farther.

My favorite part of the punishment is the NCAA requiring Brown to attend a series of rules seminars over the next two years.Brown will have the attentiveness of a 17-year-old at a defensive driving class to get that speeding ticket off his record.

I hope when the rules seminar instructor browses by Brown's table to check his class notes, Brown's paper will just have a giant middle finger on it. Or a pile of poop labeled "NCAA".

If you're brown, why even stick around to coach a banned team? Wouldn't be shocked if he just moves on. Not like his reputation will be hurt or anything

Curious to see how this plays out. SMU hired Brown's successor when they hired Brown: they are paying Tim Jankovich way above market for a second chair with the promise that he takes over the program when Brown leaves. But Brown was supposed to stay five years, and now Janks has some stank on him for being on staff when the rules violations happened. Still, the main reason why Brown took the job was out of restless boredom. During his last break, he got so bored he pretty much became a volunteer assistant at KU to pass the time. So maybe he stays at SMU and serves the sentence.

UNC's interest is in getting this over with as soon as possible, at least with respect to basketball (which is all anyone cares about). It's killed their recruiting for two years now. They've finally gotten a couple guys in the last month, though, which suggests that someone has some good news regarding the eventual outcome for MBB. Or someone is just flat-out lying to recruits, which seems unwise even for someone as obviously evil and contemptible as Roy Williams.

Let's hope for a quick and painless resolution, if only so we can enjoy the hilarious rending of garments and gnashing of teeth from Duke fans trying to distract themselves from confronting the hypocrisy of cheering on exactly the sort of one-and-done Calipari-esque NBA holding facility they formerly turned up their noses at from their ivory towers.

Some madame apparently wrote a book about providing hookers for the Louisville men's basketball team. Commence the gnashing of teeth!

Define "hookers" however you want, but I'd be shocked if this doesn't happen at every major college program that even pretends to want to win.

Yeah, I remember my roommate in college went on a trip to some rinky-dink D2 school for baseball, and somehow it was arranged for a girl to be his "friend", maybe not a prostitute out-and-out, but a student who was willing to pitch in for the cause. Again, D2 baseball.

He was hammered and apparently ended up decking her in the face and causing a huge ruckus, but I guess that's beside the point. Although maybe the plaintiffs in the O'Bannon case can get these ladies a cut of their haul.

Hell, even in my tiny, tiny sphere of HS athletics back in the 70s there were pretty open rewards for the best athletes. I'm not talking about star-struck sophomores who just wanted to screw the QB. These were grown women (to our eyes; most certainly weren't HS students) hanging with the best players. Of course, this only happened at rival high schools and not my own.

So, back on topic...... does this book (which is unpublished?) hurt Pitino in any way? He's already skated one scandal that's directly involving him. It seems, from what I've read, that he has one of Cris Carter's fall guys as a buffer this time around.

Apparently (according to Goodman article) Louisville has hired a law firm called the Compliance Group to assist in their investigation. This is awesome to me for at least two reasons:1) a law firm exists that specializes in NCAA Compliance issues

2) the lead counsel assigned to Louisville's case is named Smrt. That is not a typo. "I am so Smrt! I am so Smrt! S-M-R-T!"

The ex-coach's lawyer is named Cox as well.

McGee's lawyer, Scott Cox, released a statement to the Courier-Journal late Friday. "[Powell is] a whore," Cox said. "She is interested in making money."

Mike Krzyzewski says he's stepping down as Team USA Basketball coach after the 2016 Olympics.

Let the jockeying for his replacement begin.

Popovich is probably the best guy for the job, but I doubt he needs the extra work hours.

Bill Self will campaign for the job, but several guys will have to turn it down for him to be considered.

I'd kinda like to see Jim Boeheim as the next Team USA coach, if only to see top-level NBA talent play a 2-3 matchup zone.

Last night was pretty unbelievable as a GW alum/season ticket holder. Biggest home win for GW since we beat Marcus Camby's #1 UMass team back in the day. Ended the evening at the bar with GW Coach Lonergan. :banned:

Was thinking of you when I saw those second half scores coming across the ticker. Must've been incredible. Only the college game can give its fans nights like the one I assume you had last night :suds:

Those teams in the early/mid 90s were a blast to watch. Not to mention the names of the players - Nimbo, Omoo, Yinka.........

Looking forward to KU and MSU tonight. Not looking forward to the 10 PM EST tipoff. Has Diallo been officially cleared for the game? Anxious to see Deyonta and Bess in their first real big test out of the gate.

Yeah, it was pretty incredible. Not sure if you saw my tweet, but I was courtside for it too. After being at the bar until after midnight (and not as young as I used to be), there's not enough coffee in the world to keep me going at work today.

Diallo isn't close to being cleared to play. 50/50 at this point if he ever plays.

Looking forward to Maryland vs Georgetown tonight. I'm trying to get my high school junior daughter to go to Maryland, so I plan on watching as many games with her as I can.

Yeah, I doubt he suits up this season.

I liked how the Ellis-Bragg combo worked the high-low during the tuneups, but both are beatable defensively.

Gonna be the guards setting the tone for this season's edition: Mason and Graham are going to play together a lot, Selden more time at SF, hopeful Svi can be instant offense off the bench. The perimeter defense should be the team's biggest strength and they should try to push the pace more with the dual PG lineup.

The Champions Classic has been great for all four programs, hasn't it? Nice early test against major talents, and has become the signature event of the start of the season.
