Impressive performance by the Cats and still lots of room for improvement. Labisierre will play better (not a good matchup, plus the foul trouble), team didn't shoot the ball particularly well, gave up way too many second chance points...and still controlled the game against a top 10 team.

Could be a scary good defensive team by the end of the year.

Shocked this thing was within 20 with how bad Allen and Ingram played. UK had a big advantage with Ullis and Murray out there. Both are super poised and incredibly talented.

Both teams will be there in the end. UK is just better now and will continue to improve.

Duke will work it out. Ingram is going to be one of the best players in the country by February/March.

pretty professional broadcasting work by Scott Van Pelt Post- Maryland/GT game. Dude basically just had a 7 minute on-air orgasm hosting sports center.

Tough tough game.

Denzel can plain take over a game. Liked what the freshman Deyonta and Matt did tonight, looked great.

And we made our ####### free throws...LOL.

Total Izzo-coached team comeback, too. Lots of fouls and turnovers in the first half. Then in the second half, plugged the defensive holes where the guards were penetrating, and just fully committed to letting Valentine run the show on offense. KU never figured out how to guard him properly when he got the ball 16-18 feet out. Kudos to State for sniffing out that mismatch and riding it. Would have been easy to shrug and say "it's just November, who cares?" when they got down 13, but they kept grinding.

I was very happy to see that this time because that is usually the story for them, early in the season most years. My thought was in the first half was exactly that, especially with so many new faces coming in and being expected to contribute a lot throughout the game.

KU is very solid. Perry Ellis is for real inside.

This is kinda funny, as it was my first thought as well:

Draymond Green

@Money23Green

Watching my Spartans on DVR... Perry Ellis look like he's 37.... Let it go my man

Well that was impressive, Kentucky. I think Coach Cal just prints these guys off a printer somewhere on campus each year.

:lmao: It's funny because it's true.Ellis is a senior who has been a contributor since he was a freshman. So by CBB standards, he is an old man. Compounding it for KU fans, Ellis is from Wichita and was the Kansas HS POY all four years of high school, so KU fans have been hearing about him since he was in 8th-9th grade, if not earlier.

He's had the receding front hairline since he was a freshman, and now with the bald spot in back he looks like he's a dad in a father-son game out there.

Cal-Irvine at Central Florida featured two 7'6" centers. I am not making this up.

Antonio Davis's son, A.J., is a 6'9" forward for UCF. He posterized 7'6" Mamadou Ndiaye.

VCU getting zero calls. It's tough to watch college basketball when the officials are so heavily involved.

To be fair Duke has shot it well in the 2nd half but they were in the double bonus in the first half and I'm pretty sure VCU didn't even get the bonus and now with 7 minutes left Duke is shooting FTs

Kansas reserve forward Brannen Greene suspended six games for conduct detrimental to the team. Going to miss the Maui Invitational.

Greene's a great shooter but gets lost on defense too often for Self to play him, even when the wings are clanging everything and the opponent is playing zone.

Probably just a coincidence that the KU student athlete policy says a fourth violation of the drug policy carries a six game suspension.

Excited to see him play next week. Hope he gets some reps in and can contribute come conference time. #RCJH
What a weird case from start to finish. It seems like the NCAA was convinced Diallo's guardian was also acting as his agent but couldn't prove it, so they dragged their feet on Diallo's academic certification to get the outcome they wanted. KU hired two sets of investigators to prove Diallo was academically eligibile and how sloppy the NCAA's work was in the matter. Self took the fight to the press last weekend, and the NCAA was forced to admit their academic claims were bull####.Diallo has been practicing with the team all season and was allowed to travel with the team as a manager, so getting him into games should go pretty smoothly. There's certainly plenty of C minutes available right away for someone of his talent level.

13 straight just got less complicated.

RIP Coach Guy Lewis. He helped integrate the sport in the South and coached some great players at Houston. His legacy is undiminished by falling just short of winning the title. He lived a long life and 72 years of marriage is pretty incredible.

RIP.

Legacy way beyond his coaching. As you mentioned, recruiting Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney to Houston was a big jump forward for integrated college sports in the South. Lewis was also the guy who dreamed up scheduling Alcindor-era UCLA in the Astrodome, showing a future of college basketball as a major televised sport playable in giant venues.
