Ok, so in last night's game, in the first quarter, Favre was in shotgun mode. They snapped the ball and immediately Favre fumbled it, but Ahman Green recovered. Why is this considered a sack for Seattle?

Green Bay Packers at 10:35

1-10-GB38 (10:35) B.Favre sacked at GB 32 for -6 yards. FUMBLES, recovered by GB-A.Green at GB 32. A.Green to GB 32 for no gain (B.Fisher).

possible impending stat correction. I wouldn't be suprised if a correction is issued. It may be important for some people to keep an eye on this - I lost a game by one point because of that "sack".

This is what I have received for an answer so far by my FF league site.

---

When a QB is stripped of the ball (forced fumble) behind the line of

scrimmage it is counted as a sack and forced fumble. The NFL's official

statistician at that game credited the sack/forced fumble as a team

sack. Normally that happens when there are more than 2 players directly

involved in the cause of the fumble, tackle, sack, etc. As in this case

it could be due to a rusher pushing a lineman or other blocker in to the

QB knocking the ball away from him or tripping him up causing a fumble.

---

The thing is, no player was ever around Favre when he lost the snap since he was in shotgun mode.

I may also lose a game due to this ruling. Coming two weeks after I had a win changed to a loss due to the McNabb scoring change, I'm getting a little frustrated and thinking it may not be my year. Instead of 11-1 and cruising into the playoffs with a bye, I'm at 9-3 and jockeying for position.Everything depends on the stats, however. I'll roll with it. If I'm good enough, I'll end up winning the title. If not, then I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I think something like this happened two weeks ago when New England shutout Green Bay. Yahoo originally credited NE with 4 sacks for the game, then changed it to 5 a couple days later. This literally changed the outcome of who makes the playoffs in my league ... I can't find a single source that says NE had 5 sacks in that game, not even yahoo sports! Yahoo FANTASY sports does though. It's ######ed.

I hate Yahoo

Thanks! I was wondering where that sack came from all game and all morning, I will still end up winning by .05 points if they change it which I was assuming they would, but now reading this it probably won't be changed.

I think it probably should be changed. You wouldn't see a fumbled snap under center ruled a sack, even if the ball bounces back a yard or two behind the line of scrimmage. Of course, should be changed and will be changed are two different things. Perhaps the NFL has a policy on shotgun fumbles concerning stats. In any case, is there an "official" stat change website from the NFL or Elias? I'd like to check it until Thursday just in case there is a change.

not necessarily ***official***, but MFL lists stat corrections. They seem to start updating on Wednesday.

Just talked with Elias on the phone. The guy there said he didn't think it should be a sack and they will look into it soon.

The Favre sack on the fumbled shotgun snap has been changed. See ESPN FFL Stat Changes for details.

The change apparently was made late yesterday. The time stamp on the webpage when I visited it said Nov. 30 at 9:33 am EST.

Hope this helps out some of you -- and yes, the change was made prior to the kickoff of the Thursday night game.
