Need some advice about a nosey neighbor (1 Viewer)

Yes, it was a long day, but the cop  shouldn't be allowing random people to just hang out in a yard they don't own, especially with no one home. It was mistakes by both sides.
i once opened my front door to see what the ruckus was about when the cops pulled my special needs neighbor over... in his own driveway.

soon as i stepped on the porch a cop (there were a half dozen there) pointed his gun at me and yelled that i needed to get the #### back inside. my first thought was "the #### are you to tell me that? you're in my yard, harassing my neighbor and you're going to point a gun at me and yell??" and then i got the #### back inside without saying anything because i realize how stupid it is to yell at cops even if you haven't done anything wrong.

he had some more choice things to say as i was backing away.

you win, tough guy.

In all honesty I think she is one of those people that thinks dogs can't stay outside or shouldn't for an extended period of time. That is part of the reason I am hesitant to go over there.
they don’t like you,  come to understand this and act accordingly.  this is outside the box, ring their bell and reintroduce yourself.  explain that someone has been calling the cops and you’ve been going to all neighbors to discuss any concerns in person.  give them a chance and feel good that you were an adult.  this country sometimes needs adults to act like them.

I am sure it would have been different if there was a gun involved, but holy crap.

This is the route I think I will take, but not quite yet. It is too soon and I am still a little mad about it.

  Piecing together the facts:

  •  It was hot
  •  Dog was left outside all day
  • We left early in the morning
  •  We didn’t get home until 9 PM
  •  Husband lips off to the cops
  • The neighbors are a problem
Does this about sum it up?

The neighbor is a crazy lady and extremely bitter that her husband left her last year for Maria, his skanky but sexy secretary. She is miserable and is taking it out on those around her. Being an adult with her isn’t going to help the situation.

I guess if that is how you want to look at it. I would rephrase it

  • It was hot, that is why he had the neighbors checking on the dog during the day. The water bowl was full when we got home after it being 90+ degrees all day
  • Dog was outside all day, because we were gone for about 12 hours that day, the dog can't last that long without using the bathroom
  • These next two kind of go with the 2nd one
  • Yes, like I said they were both wrong. The cop shouldn't have allowed people to just hang on our property without us home
  • This was the 4th time they had called Animal Control. Not the first, the first time was back in January. They called twice today, once at like 6am, when the dog was in the house and once again around noon when I let the dog out to do her business.
Are you my neighbor?

Use their mailing address for embarassing or annoying marketng mail?

Maybe get something sent to the guy from another woman and have perfume on the envelope?

Call child services on your neighbor for child endangerment...letting her kids wander the neighborhood to play with a vicious beast while their mom was getting drunk.

She is a single women, and recently her son moved in with her probably around 25 to 30. I like where this is going though. Would be really embarrassing for him to opening something of hers, or vice versa.

call cops, you saw a gun.  you could be wrong, but you are not sure.

i have these in my neighborhood.  single women in houses side by side, aptly named widows row.  get her a subscription to cat fancy.

I am not your neighbor, but the more I’m reading, the more sympathetic I’m becoming to your neighbor.

When you’re gone all day, why can’t the neighbors let your dog out to pee instead of you leaving the dog outside all day and have neighbors come by to make sure the dog didn’t have a heat stroke?

Because that isn't how we planned it. Why do you side with my neighbor that lets their dogs poop in our yard without cleaning it up? Why do you think it is okay for them to just come into our yard when we aren't home and feed my dog a popsicle and drink beer in my yard like they own the place? Or call animal control when they are worried about a dog that is already in the house? You are also acting like we are gone all the time, it was one day.

Just keep doing what you are doing since you are not doing anything wrong.   Eventually, animal control will understand what is really going on and will look into the one filing complaints.

1. I think you should plan differently on extreme hot or cold days

2. I read that happened early on and your husband shoveled it up and brought it back over. Now they have a fence. When is the last time it happened?

3. I absolutely don’t think it’s ok for them to come into your yard, but there’s something about your description of events that isn’t believable.

4. I can’t imagine why someone would waste their time calling animal control unnecessarily.

5. I’m only going off of what’s been posted in this thread.

  1.  You sound like neighbors I have had and how I feel this one thinks. You think if I don't do it your way than it is wrong. It isn't, there are different ways to everything. The dog was 100 percent fine and perfectly normal.
  2. You read it incorrectly, it happened early on. We went over and asked them to clean it up and if their dogs were going to continue to come into our yard and do their business that they continue to clean it up. They didn't follow through and the dogs continued to poop in our yard. So yeah my husband took the shovel, picked up the poop and put back in their yard.
  3. Do you want me to type out the whole day? I don't see what isn't believable, but okay you can try to make some connections that aren't there.
  4. It has happened to us before, I think part of it is because people don't believe dogs should be outside for long periods of time. They are entitled to believe that, but it doesn't make it true. I work from home mostly now so it isn't a big deal, but when I didn't it would be impossible to have neighbors letting the dog out all day everyday or pay someone to come do it.
  5. No you aren't, you said it in part 3. You believe some of it, but not all of it and you are filling the rest in with what you want.
Have a good rest of your day though.

You are getting more angry and defensive as we get into evening here.

Nah, just with him. Most people in here gave me a good laugh or good advice.

He did neither. Probably trolled me a little and that is okay.
Not trolling you. You say it’s happened to you before (animal control)?

You have a good evening as well. I hope this gets resolved for you soon.

My former neighbor used to be this way. He hated my dogs. Would call all the time. Like two days after i moved in they scared the crap out of him when he came through the trees into my yard. Never got over it. Animal control got so tired of hearing from him and showing and finding none of what he said to be true.

He knew they were coming one time and he let fireworks off right as tgey were pulling up hoping to drive my dogs nuts. They did bark, but luckily i was right there and calmed them right down.

I was always super calm and told them they were welcome on my property whenever they wanted. They got tired of him and eventually told him to pound sand.

The neighbor might be a little extreme, but it seems you also may not be fit for a dog based on your situation. Everything I find online says even with water, a dog should not be outside extended periods in 90+ degrees.

There should be no excuses to letting your dog be uncomfortable or you shouldn't own it. I think you're both in the wrong.

Agreed...a dog out in 90 degree heat for 12 hours is excessive imo.  If that’s going to be the situation, why not hire a dog walker to let him out halfway through the 12 hours

She said the dog was outside in that heat for less than an hour.  It wasn't out all day baking in the sun.  Also wild dogs seem to do fine outside all day/night.

No, the dog was outside 12 hours when it was 90+ all day.

This is a 14 year old dog. I feel bad for it too.

Have you been watching telenovelas?

Then read again.  Houston Citizens for Animal Protection

And Michigan just isn't as humid as it is here.  A day out in proper conditions is just not that awful. Personally I would get a dog run;  but for every now and then, no bigs.

neighbor might be crazy but I'm not a big fan of dog's being chained in the yard.  Get a fence, invisible fence, a dog run or take him out by leash, IMO.  when you're gone 12 hours at a time, have a neighbor let them out of the house a couple times.

its been brutally hot and humid here in MI.  my rott usually loves to be outside but even he isn't dumb enough to stay out for longer than a few minutes in the heat we've been having.

Your neighbor thinks you are a bad dog owner. I can't make that judgement because I don't know you, but you have given information in this thread that could suggest that. You have stated that your dog is outside at least half of the time, and during this time the dog is chained up. Chaining up a dog is not good for your dog (it is actually illegal in the city I live in). It restricts their movements, it can cause them to be aggressive, but most importantly, dogs are social animals and need to be part of the family. You mentioned that your child is allergic. I have a feeling this dog is not getting a lot of time with the family, and if that is the case you probably shouldn't have a dog. But if I am wrong, so is your neighbor, and you will need to convince either your neighbor or your animal control office that you are indeed a good dog owner.

well, wild dogs also hunt their own food and find water sources independently..... because they're accustomed to living outside.

domesticated house broken dogs are pretty ####### stupid by and large. if left to their own devices, they'll eat plastic and #### on the couch.

Wild dogs have an alpha male that pees and craps in the dirt. The other dogs come and roll around in it until they are covered head to toe.

They arent much different.

i read some daisy’s posts in my garage dog thread and i fully understand that all of us here have a different definition of what being a good owner is.  i won’t judge, especially someone that takes the time to have a dog, especially rescuers.  i go on the principal that a dog is a member of my family and i treat him as such.  others say dogs are dogs.  for me, if i commit to a dog, i treat him like i’d treat any other family member, i get insurance and am willing to spend whatever in case of illness, no questions asked.  i don’t crate, people do.  i walk my dog 5 times a day, others let them do yard business only.  this is a personal choice.  but, dogs can’t speak, can’t tell you if they’re happy, can’t tell you if they are sick, it is up to us to know and be their protectors.  i have no real answer or side to choose.  sometimes in life, we do need to listen to advice, take a step back and assess the situation from another point of view.  no easy task.
