(This is a historical vignette, but I've always thought that I got screwed over. Now I bring my case to the masses. So anyway, don't get confused by the talk of a championship game--this case didn't happen this season).

League of friends, nominal entry fee, league run on Yahoo. Commissioner's brother is also in the league. As scoring decisions and other controversies came up through the season, the commissioner religiously said things like, "Look, however Yahoo scores it, that's how we'll do it."

Championship game. Me vs. commissioner's brother. Close game going into Monday night. I'm leading by 1 or 2 points, and the commissioner's brother has his RB going on MNF. Rosters lock 5 minutes before game's scheduled start. So at 7:55 p.m. C.S.T., our rosters lock. Then, at 8:02, the commissioner's brother (who happens to be at the commissioner's house for the holidays, watching MNF with his bro) hears that his runningback is out. So he posts to the message board at 8:03 p.m. C.S.T. (still 5 minutes before the *actual* kickoff, mind you) that he wants to insert his backup RB--but he has to do this via the message board, of course, because the rosters have locked. His backup RB scores enough points for him to win our game.

I, of course, note that he can't change his lineup after the roster deadline has passed. I even offer to have a league vote to settle the issue. But instead, the Commissioner rules by decree that even though the Yahoo roster deadline had passed, since his brother's post to the message board was 5 minutes before the actual kickoff, then it is a valid roster move and his brother "wins" the league.

What says you?

(My posting of this story was inspired by this post, and just got me to thinking. . .) :bitter:

I have the same "Whatever Yahoo says goes" rule in my league. I'd hate to see somebody get screwed by a late injury like this, but no way I allow a change after the rosters lock.

Has something like this ever happened before with the same results? If not, I'd quit the league.
No, or obviously I would have really had something with which to rag on the commissioner. We never had a situation that was *exactly* the same (i.e. a late roster submission to the message board) that was handled in a different manner. But we did have a couple of scoring controversies during the season, and in every case the commish said things along the lines of, "Look, I don't want to be bothered with this stuff. We'll just score it how Yahoo scores it." So my contention, in essence, was that in every other case the commish had defaulted to Yahoo's rulings/settings. . . except where his brother winning the league was concerned.

As a commish, I have a rule that people can call or email me in case they hear of any late breaking news, but this must be within the time frame of roster locks. That is just absurd and I would not be back in that league.

Here is an example of how I dealt with a situation this weekend

CBS Sportsline goes down. Player A hears that Ray Lewis is out but can not get on to move him. He emails me at 12:48 to let me know he cant get on and wants to make a move. Unfortunately for him, I dont get the email til minutes after the 1:00 games start. So as a commish, I ruled that he can pick up any available LB from the 4:00 games or the night games. He picked up Witherspoon who had a monster game and not one team complained.

Edited to add that I always tell the league to let me know if they need to see the email, or in this case, he emailed the entire league like the guy in your post did
