Nest Thermostat - anyone have one? (1 Viewer)

I've been thinking about getting a Nest thermostat but before taking the plunge I thought I'd ask the opinions of people on board. Besides it looking cool have you actually saved money with the device?

Also, I have a 2nd home in VT. which I see you can hook up a 2nd home but do you know if you can tell the temp inside the house through the app? The reason I ask is that I'm always worried when it gets real cold whether the heat is on and working during the winter and it would be great if not only could I turn up the heat on the way up but also know if there's a problem inside the house (and possibly get some kind of notification).

what happens if your wifi goes down, I'm assuming your heat still works right?

if you have 2 or 3 zones in your house do you need to replace each one or is one for the house good enough?

thanks.

We have 1 nest in a duel zone home - probably will get a 2nd nest at some point. We don't adjust the 2nd zone as often, so it has not been a pressing need.

Much easier to program than our old thermostat. It will essentially learn your schedule over a couple of weeks, or you can manually go in and set the program. We have apps on our phones that can control it remotely - so yes you can see the temp.

Heat still works if WI-FI goes down - you can't control it remotely, but it still works like a thermostat.

Probably - my wife handles the bills, so I don't know how much. I get a monthly e-mail from nest telling me how we compare in our area, and we area always on the low end of the spectrum - I think that is attributable to better programming of the temp, and also little things like it sensing that no one is home, so it will adjust to our pre-set "away" temp.

I've had one since they came out and love it. i believe it is saving me about $20-30/month compared to my old programmable t-stat.

I like being able to control it from my phone.

Also like the airwave feature which runs the AC fan for a few minutes after the compressor shuts off. It basically blows all the cold air that would normally stay in your vents. less waste
