Netflix tells woke employees to pound sand (1 Viewer)

imagine if a company came out and said the conservative opposite - that the company was going to only do right, conservative, non-LGBT, Christian valued things and if it made some employee's uncomfortable, maybe they should just quit and leave

a business shouldn't alienate ANY of its consumers - to do so is idiotic IMO

Chic fil a mostly did this and is flourishing

Just cancelled.  Not cause of wokeness or lack of wokeness or whatever.  They are just too expensive and their content isn't there for me right now.  I'll take HBO max over Netflix anyday

Not sure why it needed a new thread, as it's being discussed in the woke thread.   Great, they can do what they want for the most part.  Just like chick-fil-a, just like businesses during the pandemic and their vaccination/mask policies, etc.

Yeah - i don;t get how we reached this weird place of people telling business how to operate (outside of protected class) - for some things and not others - just a strange dynamic

I guess you could say the same for the Disney thread. Maybe let the mods merge if they feel like it. Just pointing out the pendulum is swinging seemingly.

My wife and I were talking about cancelling netflix. She has a couple shows that she doesn't want to give up on it just yet.  I'm pretty firm in the cancel it department as I agree that the content just isn't there for me. We will probably revisit the issue in a couple months, but it is clearly on the chopping block.

They went through the whole anti-gay "controversy"  based on the founders values......  Not sure it put a dent in their bottom line
Ya we can hardly drive by without seeing lines wrapped around the building. They’re building a second one within two miles of each other now by me.

It put enough of a dent in their bottom line that in response they discontinued the funding to the anti-gay organizations that was objected to. In response to that, the boycott was called off and LGBT+ folks started eating the "yummy" chicken sandwiches again.

that's different then

Netflix is literally saying we're going to do this and this and if you don't like it/accept it .... then leave

did Chick Fil A do that ?

Chick-Fil-A's employee's never voiced any concerns (at least publicly) over the corporate policy of charitable donations.

The objections came from outside the company from LGBT+ groups.

but did Chick-Fil-A tell its employee's if they didn't like the way the company's ethica/morals/direction was going they needed to find other places to work ?

i don't think they did that at all - apples to apples compare Chick-Fil-A to what Netflix did please

Well, have you tried that chick sandwich? Tasty bigotry is still damn tasty. Plus that drive through line is a freaking well-oiled machine.

Also, it's Chick-fil-A despite the common Mandela effect of not adding the "k" to the end of chick.

We are canceling as well.  I see they announced employee layoff today.  I owned this stock once, glad I sold it last year!

"I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.' I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Then he addressed the idea that he supported the "traditional family" by famously retorting to the Baptist Press: "Guilty as charged." While not spelling it out overtly, Cathy added that the company is supportive of "the biblical definition of the family unit," and, "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

No but they at least didn’t bow down at the alter and kiss the ring quite so much as as so many others have

Are you supporting Netflix statement or against their statement on working for Netflix?

There millions of companies I'm sure employees don't agree with policies

So apparently one of the reasons for the memo to employees is due to a Ricky Gervais special that just came out.  From what I've read it takes the last Chappelle special to the next level as far as going after certain groups.  I'll have to watch it.  There are going to be some unhappy Netflix employees though.

Nice - I know what I am watching tonight.

Good.  Screw'em.

Bunch of cry-babies.

Everyone is fair game in comedy.

Already heard on the radio this morning that "people" are up in arms about it.  HA HA HA...Netflix is about to increase subscriptions then.  And Ricky doesn't care even the littlest bit
There will always be people offended by comedy. I’m glad we don’t arrest the comedians anymore. Progress.

It was very funny and purposefully offensive. It's good to see people like him, Maher, and Chapelle give the middle finger to the woke movement.

Shouldn't have to, but I think it's good that he does.   People don't understand that for many stand-ups, what they do is a persona/role.

He had a great point as well when he lists off all the taboo things he told jokes about - pedos, Hitler, etc..  but for some reason the one thing people cling to as to something he "really" believes is the trans stuff.

Again? I think you would be surprised as most never stopped eating there.

Either way, isn't this an example of how we want things to work?  If I don't like the way Chick-Fil-A or Hobby Lobby or Netflix (or insert company here) does business or who they donate money to, I'm free not to do business with them.  They are free to change their policies accordingly, or not.  I'm also free to advocate for others to not do business with them, and if I can convince enough people to join me, perhaps I can get the company to change their policies, or not.

Sure, but unless you have a physical presence picketing at every Chick-Fil-a it would be ineffective. a "Fun-Fact" is that Chick-Fil-a`s sales rose dramatically the year after the so-called boycott by the gays.

I don`t like Nike using sweatshop labor practices, but I do like their products.  Would a one man boycott put a dent into Nike sales?  No, so I still buy their products. Now a whole NBA, NFL, NCAA boycott might work but that would never happen due to the $$$$ they get from Nike.

People will boycott if it is convenient for them.

I don't like Tom cruise's loony religion...But I like his movies.

I’m a big Ricky fan, and thought the special was great.

Audience reviews overall were very positive.  Critic’s reviews not so much, I’ll only allow one guess to why (seems easy).

I don't understand why someone would stop doing something that gives them pleasure simply because of a political stance.  I just can't wrap my head around it.  But then to try and get other people to forgo their pleasure as well to simply try to change the political stance is even more non-sensical to me.  Enjoy your life, we're here for a good time, not a long time.
