Anyone use this to watch tv on their tv? I've about had it with Comcast ####### up and charging outrageous fees for every little thing.

What's the verdict if you have this set up on quality and variety of tv shows- is it the same channels you would get on a basic cable package?

i am shocked nobody has a thread on this already.

I'm sure there is a thread, but I'm not quite following your question. Netflix doesn't have "channels" per se. They do have entire TV series, but they are not available the next day or the next week like they are on the xfinity app. Most times, they show up in Netflix a year behind what's being shown on "live" TV.

I did this recently too and I'm not sure this is what you're looking for but if you just want the locals there are good indoor digital antennas you can get. Your results may vary depending on where you live relative to broadcasting towers and terrain.

I have a decent but slightly older one and live 40-50 miles from two cities that have all the main networks. I am able to pick them all up plus MeTV, some Spanish channels and some Western Movie channel. I'm looking at buying a better antenna soon. At least some I've looked at on Amazon the seller gives a 30 day return policy in case it doesn't work in your area.

If you want streaming network shows I think you need Hulu but I don't have it so can't say how good or current it is.

Netflix more and more is getting into there own content business, but they have some relationships at the moment with History Channel, TLC etc.. where you can catch a lot of those series. These relationships are fluid and come and go. They do have some high quality original programming, house of cards, orange is the new black, lillyhammer, marco polo etc.. Amazon also has some high quality they are putting out now, mozart in the jungle and transparent are two good ones, they also have a relationship with HBO on older HBO shows, not the new ones like Game of Thrones though, Hulu Plus has a lot of Network Shows and you can catch a lot that way, one premium service like HBO will be coming out with a standalone package you can get through an App later this year, cost not out, but guessing it would be $15/month.

But if you plan to cut the cord you would need to think about getting these additional services

Over the Air Antenna setup, figure out a way to record these with some kind of devise or watch Network TV live

Hulu Plus allows you to watch a lot of Network Shows: $8/ month

Netflix (1 year later like you said): ~$9/month

Amazon Prime ($99/year) ~ $8.25/month

HBO go standalone service, coming later this year probably $15/month

These 4 services would cost you around $40+/month plus add in the cost of your internet service..

Might be enough?

Any way to get live sports if one were to do something like this? I know it's probably addressed in the "cut the cable" thread somewhere on here, but while were on the topic .... :coffee:

I was able to get Amazon Prime for $72. It was on sale this past Saturday only, in recognition for Transparent either winning or for being nominated for Golden Globes.
