I am going to be joining a dynasty league for the first time this year. First year of the league will be this year. Other than the dynasty sticky at the top, is there some where to look that would explain how dynasty works, and maybe some tips on strategy for starting up or operating a dynasty team. Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you taking over a team?? Or is it going to be an initial dynasty draft?? If it will be a startup, how many drafts do you do, rookie draft, then vet draft, or just one rookie/vet draft??

I think it is safe to say this is a startup dynasty draft.Use some mock drafts out there that mirror your league. There are links throughout the Shark Pool for dynasty mocks - or search MFL for "HyperActive" or "Maniac". Both had good drafts (non-IDP).

Differences between a redraft and an initial dynasty draft:

Rookies go earlier than you expect. Upside / youth / "newness" from the NFL Draft Day(s) boost them.
Talent is talent - good players go fast. Younger QBs will go earlier than you may expect.
Scoring system / lineups are very important. PPR? WRs go earlier than expected.
Size of league matters. Twelve teams, there should be enough to go around. 14-16 or more starts to thin out the talent quickly.
Different strategies amongst owners will be around. Some may go for "Win now", others may go "Win in a year or two or three". To each their own.
Check your rules. If you don't need to draft a kicker or defense, and the scoring system minimizes their contributions - don't draft either. Take a flyer on a rookie to see if he gets a chance to contribute. A potential starter RB or WR is worth more than taking a K or D. Add/drop that in August (again, check your rules).And of course - use the Dynasty Links we have here in the Shark Pool and the FBG rankings to help out. Above all - have fun.
