New Fridge Help (1 Viewer)

Just picked up this new fridge.  That's Cold

My old fridge was like 15 years old so obviously it just kept the food cold (generally).  This new fridge has all kinds of bells and whistles that I think I'll find useful once I get the hang of them.  So fridge guys, a couple of questions:

1.  I buy a lot of fresh veggies.   Should I keep them in the crisper drawers and if so do I set some kind of temp or humidity?  And just throw them in there or do I need a container?

2.  This fridge has a "flex" section, I have a chest freezer in the basement so I don't need a lot of freezer space upstairs.  What I do need is a place to keep fruit and veggies fresh as long as possible so I thought this section ideal for that.  Any other recommendations?

Will like any useful posts and posts that can somehow sexualize this whole topic.

Sorry. Got nuthin'

We got the same fridge a little under a year ago.  We use the flex 100% as freezer space.  Given that, it is a little short on drawer space.  1 drawer for Cheese and lunch meat.  1 drawer for produce.  Things like peppers and such do fine in the regular fridge space.  Crisper is reserved for lettuce, spinach, etc....you know, leafy ####.

Overall, good fridge though.  I imagine if you can use the flex as a fridge, you can just make that whole area a place to stick your cucumber.

My last fridge was a Samsung. Died within 2-3 years. Unrepairable. At least they stood behind it and Samsung wrote me a check for original purchase price. Replaced with a Kenmore Elite (basically an LG). Had this in for 3 years and it's been acting flaky and not getting cold enough the past couple of months. Repair guy took a look at it and said nothing is wrong with it. I'm pretty sure it's going to crap out soon. Appliances nowadays suck ###.

I did buy the 5 year warranty that I can extend 2 more years.  I am anticipating problems.

Also just bought a new Samsung double oven (slide in).  That damn thing (after warranty and various Maryland taxes) set me back $3k.  But I have bemoaned my lack of a double oven often so hopefully I'll get some good use out of it.

This thread reminds me of those infomercials... do you struggle with those pesky doorknobs (man shown fumbling w door alternating licking it and rubbing his elbow on it, to no avail)? well we've got just the product for you! BestSlaveFriend2000! He'll open that door for you! (BestSlaveFriend2000 turns the knob and opens the door) Problems wiping your ###? (Man has now wrapped his entire head in toilet paper and is stumbling into walls) BestSlaveFriend2000 is there for you!

Still like this thing? I'm about to order the full size version.

We still love ours.  No complaints at all.  The only thing I'd  caution you is to make sure you have the height.  The height listed on most websites is, in my opinion, ~3/4" short.  That height is basically if you consider the front levelers all the way down, and you measure to the height of the fridge case.  The door hinges/trim sticks up slightly above the case, and you usually need the leveling casters up at least 1/2" to get things working right.  In my case, I have a cabinet over the fridge that I have literally 1/32" of clearance on now.  I had to loosen the cabinet doors and actually push them up slightly to avoid having to remove and raise the cabinet.

Fridge is great though.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go home and make sure I have enough clearance. I eyeballed it based on the listed height and the listed height of my current one. Fridge has been ordered from Costco. They had the longest delivery time but I'd rather deal with them then any of the other local retailers. Hopefully it won't take the full 1-2 weeks it said.

Make sure whichever one you get, you read the manufacturers manual about how to get the dust build up off the compressor and set your calendar to remind you to do it.

If you don't, you will run into a $350 repair bill four years later (lesson learned) two months after the extended warranty runs out.
