New Metallica album 11/18 - Hard-Wired to Self Destruct (1 Viewer)

GA Field Access for the July 9th Atlanta show.

Not sure what to expect from the new Braves stadium, but the 4 of us going have been friends for over 30 years so we're all excited!

Planning on moving close for Volbeat and then falling back during A7

North American tour started last night in Baltimore...anyone go? Reviews?

I'm going tomorrow and Sunday at Philly and Meadowlands. Will post reviews by Monday at the latest.

Not a bad list. I'll take that although I would love Fight Fire w/ Fire
Scrap Fuel and everything from Black album except Sad But True and replace with "Creeping Death," "Fight Fire With Fire," "Harvester of Sorrow," "Whiplash", and "Sanitarium" and that would be fantastic (without getting into too many deep cuts.)

They better play Creeping Death.

Because it's more profitable for them than being a bunch of sawed-off #######s.
Honestly it always felt like a canard to me.  A show if you will.  Nothing "real" about them.  A one trick pony you might say.  "Hey I am angry, must play fast and loud to get my point across, screw the man, kill em all, argghhhhhhhhhhh!!"  something like that

I prefer Unforgiven to Enter Sandman, just because I'm so sick of the latter, but if I never heard either song again in my life I'd be fine with it.
To me, Enter Sandman will always be the ring music for the wrestler James Fullington (Sandman from ECW). To get jaded, smart wrestling fans to go crazy by hearing this song gets props in my book. This is the prime example from 2005's ECW One Night Stand where the crowd sings the lyrics pretty well. Oh, and there's beer poured on ladies' chests.

Rock and roll has always been best loud and heavy metal even more so and while they have some fast songs they got some slow one as well. Fine if you don't like them but your post sounds ignorant... Not meant as in insult

That said seeing them a week from tomorrow with my son... I've seen them over fifty times will be his 2nd time

In traffic after the Philly show. Good show. Fn rob did anesthsia.  That was a holy s moment. Went into motorbreath. Wasn't expec r in that.

Will post videos to my YouTube tomorrow.

My next morning review of the show yesterday:

As we were leaving we found out that Avenged Sevenfold was not going to play because a band members wife/gf went into early labor and he rushed home. For me, not a big deal at this point because I'm not a big A7X fan. However, the alternative was to have Mix Master Mike (yeah...of Beastie Boys fame) do an extended DJ set to fill time. Apparently he's a part of the tour to do some DJing between acts...I get the idea, but it was NOT GOOD. I'm a big Beastie's fan but MMM would play a song, let's pick Toxicity by SOAD. He's start scratching over all the hooks. He did this for every song...ruined every song. Granted he's in a less than ideal situation but still.

Volbeat

To be honest I think I know one of their songs but after their set, I'm gonna check them out some more. They did a cool Johnny Cash thing with Ring Of Fire intoing into Sad Mans Tongue. That was cool.

Break

More Mix Master Mike. He rooooooned Ace of Spades for chisssakes. When he did, he got BOOOO'd man. Big time. People were so fed up with him. He better go back to the drawing board and figure this out or it's gonna be a long summer for him.

Metallica

Open with 4 rockers...Hardwire, Atlas Rise, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death...great way to open a show. Those 2 new songs definitely fit okay with the 2 RTL classics.

Unforgiven...not one of my favorites but I sang along...you know how that goes

Next 4 songs...Now That We're Dead, Moth Into Flame, Wherever I may Roam, Halo On Fire...this would turn out to be the end of the new stuff. Moth Into Flame live is money. This was a good stretch...they did this thing with these bigass drums which kinda fell flat to me. Jane's Addiction did it way better back in the day. Anyway at the end of Halo it was time for a Holy Sh!t moment.

Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) - Rob did this. He did it really well too. The big screen had a pic of Cliff. But I was more interested in Rob whomping on that weird ### solo.

Anesthesia did not lead into Whiplash though, it lead into Motorbreath. Wow. Didn't see that coming. Cool. (would rather of had Whiplash or Hit The Lights, but hey whatcha gonna do?)

The end of the show (Pre-Encore) Sad But True, One, Master Of Puppets, Fade To Black, Seek and Destroy. OK...you could argue that each of those songs are the best songs from the first 5 albums and not be wrong. Obviously this was the highlight of the night. SBT is heavy as ford-it-all, One is epic. Master is Master, Fade To Black is sooooo good. Seek and Destroy...they did this from the end of the cat walk into the middle of the crowd. Very small setting, they're all bunched together. Such a great song.

Encore - Battery - Last big pit of the night. Nothing Else Matters - and the momentum is dead. Enter Sandman - OK...so we have all heard this song so many times and the fact that it's Metallica's best known song makes me sick to my stomach for the general music listening audience but...live it rocks. It does. Shoot me.

Overall - I've seen better shows definitely. I mean I've been doing concerts for almost 40 years so I would hope so...I've even seen way better Metallica shows (but those were also bonafide legendary shows) BUT...it was good to see Metallica back and playing like they used to play back in the day. If you like Metallica, you'll like this year's set of shows. The Dope recommendation is to go and have a good ### time.

That sounds like an incredible set - thanks for the writeup.

If I were to list the songs I'd want to hear, they hit my top 6 and most of my top 10.  That Pre-Encore section is ridiculous.

:thumbs up:  thanks.

I hope the videos are watchable. I'm seeing them again tomorrow at giants stadium....f calling it metlife.  I'll have another writeup AND more videos.  The videos should be better quality as im using the Philly show show as my dry run. Best laid plans though lol.

Anyway...Im trying to go back in my encyclopedia of dope....I think the last thing I ever did Metallica wise might be been the black album release party at MSG back in the day. I'll say this...I'm glad they're  back. We all can't be the 21 year olds who have the world by the short hairs but as a 50 something talking about other 50 somethings, I'm glad they rediscovered that they always had 10 ton balls.

Sitting in a bar in central PA after dropping off my nephew. Scooters in Lititz if youre in the area...look for the dope with the Metallica shirt. That'd be me hahaha hahaha.

I wanna say something about Mix Master Mike.

I'm not the typical metal head with the "if it  ain't metal F YOU." attitude. I love some of the new stuff that djs are doing. It's really talented stuff.

But Christ did Mike suck.

Just so you know when I say he wasn't good, that I'm not the getoffmylawn dad guy.
