As a long time Mets fan, I am pretty depressed. It's been a long haul the last few years and this year will not be any better. I expect not many people will post here, but at least it gives me a place to vent a little.

Im already rooting for them to lose. And then hopefully, finally, the Wilpons will clean house in the front office. Then hire a GM that isnt a nutcase and isnt allergic to sabermetrics. Allow the GM to fill the front office. And finally, they just set a budget and walk away. Unfortunately, from all accounts the Wilpons are part of the problem.

Honestly can't believe they are going into the season with the following rotation:

1. Santana

2. Maine

3. O Perez

4. Pelfrey

5. Nieve

Hard to imagine them contending in the NL East with that rotation

The Mets should have been sellers this offseason, too many glaring holes. Instead they were buyers. That franchise is heading in the wrong direction. And with Minaya as GM, I think they will continue to make bad decisions. Should be concentrating on rebuilding the farm and trading away payroll, instead they sign Jason Bay to a long term big $$$ contract? That rotations is horrible outside of Santana. Wright will rebound and is a solid foundation player. But who else do they have? An aging, hurt, Carlos Beltran? Reyes' game is predicated on speed, and he had surgery to remove scar tissue from his hamstring.

Not that I liked the Bay signing, but the Mets should not have been sellers. Beltran, Reyes and Santana are all at their low point as far as trade value. That only really leaves Wright as far as tradeable assets, and even his trade value would be suppressed due to his lower power output last year. What they needed to do was to forgoe players like Cora, Gary Mathews Jr and Tatis and take those sums to the international and Rule IV draft. However, reports are that the Mets dont even have a budget, the Wilpons basically have to approve all expendatures on a case by case basis, so even if Omar had saved money there he may not have gotten increased budgets in other areas.

You can't believe it? I absolutely can believe it. I actually expect it. Not believing it is more of a shock IMO.

Im thinking the fans might need to take matters into their own hands to figure out a way to get rid of Jerry and Omar. Seems like the two are intent to do anything to save their worthless hides, including screwing up Mejia.

The Mets have announced that doctors have cleared Jose Reyes to resume baseball activities.

His thyroid levels have returned to normal levels, he is his way back to Tradition Field and will hopefully be in camp tomorrow.

Might have an outside shot at Opening Day.

What do Mets homers think of Oliver Perez? There doesn't seem to be any in between with this guy.He is either pretty good or (craps) the bed.
He's a headcase and a waste of talent. That said he's the key to the Mets season for me this year. He's the only one on the staff that can put up No. 2 starter numbers, excluding Johan of course. Basically, big upside, bigger downside. He's worth a late flier IMO as the park should help him and he appears healthy at this point. He'll never be consistent, but he's a potential matchups play.

Jenry Mejia is just flat out filthy.

With that said the Mets are going to ruin/joba him by making him a MR to start the season - BIG mistake IMO.

Opening Day lineup

1. SS Alex Cora

2. 2B Luis Castillo

3. 3B David Wright

4. 1B Mike Jacobs

5. LF Jason Bay

6. CF Gary Matthews, JR.

7. RF Jeff Francoeur

8. C Rod Barajas

9. SP Johan Santana

:banned: ;) :suds: :blackdot:

Wanted to vomit when I saw the lineup pregame.By the 9th I was ready to order World Series tix

Just kidding but it was nice to see them win, and Santana pitch really well.

Marlins did look like a bad little league team at times.

Nice to see Wright go yard and get that out of the way.

Bay is going to fit in quite nicely.

Still think Mejia should be starting games in AAA right now.

NOT looking forward to the Mets having to deal with Heyward for the next 10-15 years.

He's probably going to be a great player but let's not put him in the HoF yet. Dude looks pretty awful at the plate right now. K'd 4 times last night and Marmol made him look terrible the night before on three straight sliders.Welcome to the big leagues, kid.

Now what the hell was that tonight?
No idea but I'll take it.I have to say that I've been REALLY impressed with Frenchy's ABs so far this year. He actually seems like he has an approach that doesn't involve swinging at everything thrown up there.Barajas swings for the downs with every swing so he's going to hit some bombs.Reyes being back today should be exciting bit I'm not really looking forward to seeing Ollie on the hill.

as a long time met fan, i can't really express how disappointing this regime is and how the mets continually get everything wrong.

they build a new ballpark and celebrate the dodgers heritage, a team that still exists and moved from brooklyn 60 years ago.

the ballpark is brutally overpriced and dimensionally absurd in today's game.

the roster is littered with 30+ year old and retreads, though the GM stressed speed, defense and youth when he was hired.

well, he didn't stress much, cause he really didn't have a plan.

from the medical staff, to scouting, to ownership, all the way up, this team just doesn't get it.

i wont even discuss the awful contracts......well, how about julio franco, oliver perez, luis castillo, see a trend?

a platoon of tatis & jacobs at 1b? in a league that employs, pujols, howard, a gonzalez, to name a few.

losing 4 of 6 at home to florida and washington reveals the inevitable.......this is a 95 loss team at best.

no way will i spend money on tickets or a flight to see this mess unless a real committment to a baseball man is made.

So glad they decided to keep Mejia up to blow games and mop up, rather than leaving him in the minors to actually maybe develop into a good pitcher.

Time to make a list of boneheaded moves that Jerry has made this year:

1. Taking Mejia north instead of being a starter in AA.

2. Keeping Jacobs & Catalanotto over Chris Carter

3. Batting Jacobs 4th for two games

4. Starting GMJ over Pagan

5. Pinch running Tatis for Jacobs and then pinch hitting Cora for the pitcher in tie game rather than the reverse

6. Using Mejia in a tie game rather than a well rested K-Rod

7. Cutting Figueroa loose with such a brittle starting rotation rather than sending Sean Green (who has options) down and who eventually ended up on the DL anyway

Feel free to add to the list.

Note: I'm sure Omar had a hand in a few of the personnel moves but since they apparently deferred to Jerry on the decision to keep Mejia on the team I'm assuming these were his calls.

I don't understand why they didn't give Ike Davis the 1B job right out of spring training. He's a stud. What's the point in waiting considering the dreck in front of him?

Sad

Starting pitchers are an absolute mess.

There is no hope.

All we have is a countdown to the day Omar & Jerry are fired. Might as well start talking about replacements.

Have the "We want Bobby V" chants started at Citifield yet?

That stud strikes out too much and cant hit left handers. He belongs in the minors right now.

:lmao: The Mets aren't going to contend this year anyway. Davis isn't ready for the majors yet and it's debatable whether he's a stud to begin with. If he isn't an A prospect, he's better off getting some seasoning. If he is, they're better off delaying the start of his arbitration clock.

Chris Carter on the other hand...

Davis needs to be in AAA for at least a few months assuming he continues to perform. I'm fine with him in AAA for now. If his first year hadn't been so horrid I may be on the bring him up now bandwagon but it was.

He needs the time.

8. Giving KRod work in mop up duty to close out games so that he gets closer to his vesting option.

Can't believe I watched that 20 inning nightmare yesterday. Figures we can only score a run off of position players playing pitcher. Our pitching is slowly looking solid. Let's see what Maine can do today, but man....these hitters....the scoring with RISP is so inept.

9. I'll only pick one from yesterday. Bunting in the top of the 19th against a position player pitcher that couldn't find the strike zone, and was throwing BP fastballs.

Bunting Luis Castillo with Jose Reyes on first and a hitter pitching was one of the dumbest things Ive ever seen a manager do in my life. Almost as dumb as almost forgetting to intentionally walk Derek Jeter when Mariano Rivera was up next last year.
